Le procès (1962)
A master based on another master
To make an adaptation of Kafka's work, must be so difficult that it makes me tired just to think of it. But to make a good adaptation sounds impossible; except for Orson Welles. This movie proves that Welles COULD do, artistically, anything he wanted.
"The trial" introduces us deeply into Kafka's world. The sense of dispair, confusion, nightmare, (and any other feelings that Kakfa could produce us), are powerfully transmitted to us in the film. Welles makes a great use of his directing skills, in photography, cast direction, etc. Anthony Perkins's choice for the role of Joseph K. couldn't be more appropriate. He actually looks similar to Kakfa, and he plays the complicated role in an excellent way.
This movie is another of Orson Welles' "lost jewells". Only a master like him could make such an excellent representation of another's master novel.
I'm Not Rappaport (1996)
I wish Walter Matthau were immortal.
What a great movie! With a great script, a pair of huge actors, and a beautiful scenery, this movie can touch anyone's heart. Don't miss it!
