Big Jim McLain (1952)
If John Webb made a Jack Webb movie... Hmmm...
This is an awful movie.
No matter what your politics, this is one of those jaw dropping bad movies that is so bad it's mesmerizing.
Duke and Marshall Dillion scurry around Hawaii chasing an inept bunch of "commie" conspirators, though Big Jim somehow manages to spend the majority of his time wooing Nancy Olson. Stuff happens, just much of it makes little sense. It's hard to imagine this bunch involved in a struggle for world conquest. It's all about as exciting as traffic tickets.
This is Ed Wood caliber cinema here people (just a larger budget). It's just hard to imagine Duke and pretty Nancy Olson stuck in the middle of this nonsense (on the other hand, Uncle Tonoose seems right at home).
Audrey Rose (1977)
Spoilers? What could spoil this?
My sides, My sides - A Laugh Riot.
Unintentionally hilarious with Anthony Hopkins auditioning as the new Charles Laughton - great actor who can be mind-boggling awful when given bad material..
Too many inane details to even consider listing so I will highlight a couple favorite things in this stinker.
One: John Hillerman's desperate attempt to remain awake why sleepwalking through his part in this bomb.
Two: "Expert" Quack Doctor Norman Lloyd warns the jury to "remain alert and awake" during the trial's climatic test. (Sorry, that is just too much to ask).
Mexican Spitfire at Sea (1942)
Genuinely Funny
This little gem is one part the Marx Brothers' Monkey Business and another part a backwards I Love Lucy.
It is a model "B" film- short, inexpensive, but a clever script and some good work by an experienced cast.
I haven't seen any other of the "Mexican Spitfire" series but I will be looking for them. You might give them a try.
The Mummy's Tomb (1942)
Hilarious
Obviously not one of the classic Universal horror films but is ridiculous fun. Poor Lon's limping mummy lumbers along at a snail's pace while potential "victims" wait in terror. Word of advice people: RUN!
