The Violent Kind (2010)
A great, twisting ride of a movie
I got to see a cut of The Violent Kind at the San Francisco International Film Festival and it was amazing. Not at all what I expected. It is billed as a horror film, but dives into science fiction and so much more. I have to say, I had a hard time figuring the film out which is pretty unusual for me. It takes about 5 left turns and where you end up is pretty far away from where you started. The entire movie was shot in Sonoma County California, and features some great local talent and locations. In fact, they basically get the entire town of Penngrove in one camera move! Not a difficult task really, no offense Penngrove! If you like X-Files, or Outer Limits, you should really dig this. If you just like blood and gore, it is there, but not in copious amounts. Overall, I highly recommend it

Never Too Young to Die (1986)
Simply a must see.
This movie is so bad, I simply had to rate it a ten. It's like the odometer in your car. If you drive it long enough, it will come back around to zero. Starting at ten, this film moved so far down my scale, that it came back around to the top. It is a model of perfection in the realm of the awful. I love it! If you are a fan of Mystery Science Theatre, find a copy and gather up friends to roast this rare slice of Americana. One can only pray that a special edition DVD is on the way. Can you imagine the audio track with Gene Simmons and John Stamos bantering back and forth about wardrobe difficulties or the weak coffee at craft service? The George Lazenby trivia game?! Not every movie has to be Casablanca to be a classic, so enjoy "Never Too Young To Die
Mission to Mars (2000)
Bloated Hollywood filmmaking with nothing new to see.
Normally, I abstain from adding my comments to a site like this, but potential moviegoers must be warned. I love sci-fi. I am a geek and I am quite happy living with that fact, but this is one piece of science fiction I cannot stomach. There was nothing original to the storyline at all. I am quite sure the (multiple) writers involved kept the Sci-Fi channel on at all times, copying down anything that could remotely be noticeably re-hashed into Mission To Mars. There were obvious rips from The Abyss, Apollo 13, Contact, Stargate, and just about any other film shot in the last 30 years. Tim Robbins should be ashamed to be part of this, as well as such talent as Don Cheadle and Gary Sinise. If you've liked them in other films, rent those again and skip this one! The actual "science" used in the film is sketchy at best. Every line of dialogue was highly predictable and cliched at best. Of course, some of the ship designs were nice, but they in no way make up for the horrible alien design at the end of the film... which could not come soon enough. My advice: matinee if you're really rich or else see it on HBO if you're a glutton for punishment.
