Indigo (2023)
It would be hard to make horror movies without stupid people in this world
This is just a typical horror movie. People going into places where they know they're gonna die.
I swear most of the horror movies could not be made without the directors, finding the most stupid characters existing on the planet.
I suppose many people will still find it enjoyable. Because stupidity aside the movie manages to create a sense of suspense and fear.
The acting was pretty good and the locations were pretty nice. I guess what kept this movie from becoming a good one is the lack of intelligence on the writers part.
If you like intelligent horror, movies, this one's not for you. However, if you're just killing time and want to watch a suspenseful movie with decent story and can ignore the writers making the characters act stupid then you will enjoy it.
Das letzte Land (2019)
Take a peek at far off future universe from just a tiny angle
Its normal to be able to film the story of a couple of fugitives running in a getaway car that they found abandoned and almost wrecked. They fix it up and drive to wherever they think their sanctuary lies. Maybe one believes in a real sanctuary while the other has an ideal or a mythical sanctuary he wants to get to.
What's extraordinary is to be able to do that in a setting which hasn't happened yet and make the audience feel like they have been a part of that futuristic setting for a long while.
Brilliant cinematography and direction. Yes the movie is a bit slow at times but if you just focus on the detail of the surroundings, you'll enjoy feeling the future.
The Expanse (2015)
Watch seasons 1,2 and 3 and STOP!!!
If you go any further, you'll ruin your experience. It is easy to tell that the first three seasons are based on a coherent story which is exciting, adventurous, thrilling and all that. Starting the 4th season, it's pretty much all garbage. Lame excuses for making episodes. Total lack of creativity. I didn't even watch season 5. I have already ruined it enough for me. I'm stopping at episode 7 of season 4. Characters and their action have become stupid to the point that you wonder why the original director could not be retained along with the purchase of the series by Amazon. Original director took it to stardom. Should have been a clue for Amazon that that's the guy to bring along.
Anyway, you get the idea. Its a shame I have to give it a 6/10. If I could rate the first three seasons separately I would give them at least a 9/10 and the season 4 a 2/10 (2 for cool scenes of space).
Solis (2018)
An abstract ending ruined it
I like complete stories. I don't want "fill in the blanks" kind of movies. Also, if I wanted to watch humans acting stupid I do not need to sit in front of a TV for two hours to do that. There's plenty of that going around in real life anyway.
Someone else described this movie the best:
"This is like watching Titanic without the scenes from before the journey or the accident."
Jaws 2 (1978)
Not safe to return to water
This movie has good dialogue, good story and good acting. However, the plot twists designed to incite fear and suspense actually make one want to wish the shark to just eat them all. All the good elements are wasted because of the dumb moves written into the plot.
A Quiet Place Part II (2020)
This is how you do a sequel
There are so many ways a movie like this can go wrong. I have to say kudos to the director who did an amazing job and to the story writers, choreographers, set designers and special effects.
Wow. Not only do you get to watch what happens next, but the film, very eloquently, fills in some back story, to answer some questions.
Definitely worth watching at the theater and you'd want to watch reruns on streaming later.
Swing Low (2019)
Going to avoid Teddy Grennan's movies
@Teddy Grennan: You were probably going for a shocking ending and you did great. It shocked your kind of crappy movies out of me for ever. People watch movies for various reasons, most, if not all of which include entertainment, fulfilment or even learning. Your movie provided nothing. Not sure what you were going for there. But one thing is for sure. This was first and last movie by you that I watched.
Haeundae (2009)
Compelled to review this disaster
I have seen many a disaster movies but free as stupid and moronic as this one. This is South Korea's equivalent of an Asylum movie.
Yes people act stupid during any disaster but this one goes above and beyond the call of stupidity.
Just a few samples:
Millions of people may be dying but a rescue team is out in the rough weather trying to save one couple from the ocean
Woman stuck in elevator is going to drown because elevator it's filled with more than 4 feet of water while there is plenty of headroom and objects to pull herself up
Electrical transformer electrocutes the entire ocean except for those who are actually clinging to the wet electric poles
I could keep going but you get the idea.
Who writes tripe like this and then even films it?
#Saraitda (2020)
Tom and Jerry again
Watched less than 10 minutes of the movie. Inhumanly stupid behavior led me to stop. Allow me to explain:
1. Guy 1 sees weird things outside his window; some people are running and others are attacking them.
2. Still opens the door when there is a knock on the door and lets guy 2 in.
3. Won't let the guy 2 stay even though he looks normal and scared
4. Guy 2 turns into a zombie right in front of guy 1's eyes
5. Guy 1 chooses to wrap his arms around the zombie (like a hug) and pushes him out the door while the zombie's teeth are 1 inch away from his shoulder and all that the zombie does is 'growl' and 'snarl'.
Enough Tom and Jerry for me. I'm sure preteens would enjoy it.
The Cave (2005)
High suspense fast paced scifi-fantasy-horror flick
Great casting
Good plot and storytelling
Good acting
Great set / location
Good camera work
Not gory and yet was able to maintain tension for the audience throughout.
I'd say that's a pretty good job. Well done.
It was much better than I expected it to be.
Furthest Witness (2017)
What was this about?
Could have been better. Only things missing were acting, plot coherence, plausibility and a few more
Tom yum goong 2 (2013)
No story, horrible music, terrible fights
I found myself waiting for something where I would start caring about anything in this movie. Terrible acting, horribly bad fight scenes, no rhyme or reason for fight scenes. They were obviously stretched way too much.
This movie tried to be something it clearly wasn't. A good guy bad guy martial arts movie. It failed miserably IMHO.
Seven in Heaven (2018)
Time travel or Inter dimensional travel?
I'm compelled to asked the question, "what is wrong with people these days?"
So many movies coming out with human behavior so mis-characterized. Is Hollywood losing touch with reality?
On top of depicting incorrect human behavior, what's up with such implausible stories?
I find this movie insulting to the intelligence of thinking audience.
3 stars for the attempt. And that's being generous.
Durante la tormenta (2018)
Parallel time don't work this way
Take it from some one from the 25th century.
I just watched this 21st century movie waiting for my dixipod while it got tested for g-coil pollution.
I hardly made it through the whole video because I was so turned off by all the inaccuracies. People in the 21st century really didn't have a clue about parallel time dimensions.
But the reason I'm giving it 6/10 stars is that the TikTokers should have at least known better about how humans behave. That is still the same today.
NOTE: I just realized that back in your time people who made movies were called something else but not TikTokers. But ever since TikTok became the only way to watch any kind of recorded motion video, that's what they are called now; TikTokers.
Legion (2010)
Michael defied God for this?
Apocalypse is coming because God has no faith left in humans.
Yep, it's God that has no faith. Humans were doing just peachy with their faith and God, all of a sudden, lost faith. It's all God's fault.
Well, following that, naturally, God tells his workers, the angels, to go and eradicate all humans, once again.
(Note: the great flood being the first round of cleanup)
However, the leader of angels, Michael, decides that God couldn't really mean to destroy mankind so he decids to defy God and save humanity all by himself.
Back on Earth, the sky begins to fill with all these glowing beings of light with wings, throwing down lightning bolts on the ground and with each attack wiping out entire cities. In about less than 15 minutes the whole earth is as clean as the aliens in 'The Day the Earth Stood Still' wanted it to be.
That's what you'd expect to see if angels came to exterminate humans but not in this classy tale. Here our angels give up most of their special powers (except for biting and climbing walls), downgrade themselves to humans (homeless and gangsters no less), drive hundreds of miles and attack using conventional weapons (Weapons of Mass Destruction were probably not allowed under the Genesis Convention).
Apparently when angels take human form, they either turn to zombies, jerks, morons or gangsters. Not very classy behavioral choices but they did have excellent wardrobe choices for an apocalyptic war. I can only imagine what their 'Project Runway' must look like.
Angel Michael is severely lacking in the biting and climbing walls skill categories but he does have one thing going for him. He knows about weapons - which all the others angels, somehow, missed.
As for the humans Michael is trying to save, they are the lot that deserves to be killed first and foremost. I kept wondering, "Michael defied God for this?"
Us (2019)
Like a M Night Shamalayan Movie
Didn't do it for me. I was laughing most of the time. At least I got that out of it. Except for the main twist the rest was just not plausible. Especially human reactions in situations like these.
The Hurricane Heist (2018)
Good entertainment for a generic script
Loved the dialogue and the script. Story was decent. Action a bit stretched. Acting was commendable. Direction was great.
Mars (2016)
Sending 5 year olds into space may accomplish more
What I can't understand is how the average of all these 1/10, 2/10 etc ratings comes to 7.5?
What a bickering and incompetent bunch of morons. And to think this is supposed to be the best humanity has to offer in the year 2033. We MUST be de-evolving.
I give it 3 stars for the space and planet visuals for I'm a sucker for sci-fi but even Asylum picks better cast than this.
So much potential wasted in trying to play god knows what stupid agendas.
The Last Days on Mars (2013)
Good Actors, Stupid Direction.
This movie is a good example of how to take a reasonable story and turn it into an awful movie script. Then go hire decent actors but get worst of the lot director to direct it.
Possible that director was being "directed" by financiers but any good director would have been reluctant to put their name on this "piece of art"
Don't watch it if you hate bad horror movies where someone goes to the basement, without turning on the lights, with a flash light with almost dead batteries, to investigate growling sounds coming from the basement, just because their stupid cat MIGHT be down there.
Here kitty, kitty, kitty.
As if to say, "Please do this world a huge favor and put me out of my misery by torturing me to death."
Wasted 2 hours of my life.
2 stars for good acting by female actresses ONLY.
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
Hi all Tow Mater fans
Bizarre concoction of Star Wars + Marvel Movies + SyFy Channel + Disney Movies. Everything but Star Wars. THE LAST JEDI (Such a grand title) should have been grand. This movie is made for the fans of Dory, Nemo, Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater. No serious Star Wars fan should tolerate this insult to intellect. I'm rating it 3 stars just because the director made luke skywalker happy by having him drink that green milk squirting out of the mammary glands of the lounging dinosaur.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
This is NOT STAR TREK
You could consider this STAR TREK if the first STAR TREK movie/show you ever watched was 'STAR TREK: INTO THE DARKNESS' but then you wished that it was more like GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. O and if you want scientifically accurate show, watch DORA THE EXPLORER. You will learn more about real science than you will watching STAR TREK DISCOVERY. Sorry to butcher a great quote but "Beam me up Scotty, there is no great DISCOVERY here."
Pandemic (2016)
Tries to be everything for everyone but ends up with very little for anyone
This movie has some good elements, hence the 2 stars but that's about it.
In my opinion, this movie suffers mostly from bad direction and unbelievable characters except for Mekhi Phifer's character which pretty much provides everything realistic or interesting about this movie.
The doctor's character, played by Rachel Nichols, is one of those annoying, so out of touch with reality characters that you would feel like shooting her, instead of the infected, most of the time.
Filming this in first person shooter angle did not help either.
Too bad. It could have been a good movie if director had any idea how people might react in a pandemic environment.
Ouija (2014)
It's a good scare and a decent story
I just watched it tonight. I'm not a pro at writing reviews so don't mind if I am not too elaborate.
Basically, the movie is enjoyable. Acting is good, pretty straight forward and decent story and there are a few good scary moments.
As with any horror movie, you'll find yourself hoping the characters don't do this or that or that they should have done this or that. But there aren't too many moments like that which made it more enjoyable.
It did get a bit cheesy towards the end but still, if you are in the mood for a good scare, you won't be disappointed.
It's an above average horror movies so I'm giving it a 6/10.
John Wick (2014)
$100 dollar movie with a 5 cent script
My only guide to this movie was IMDb ratings which I'm sorry to say but are either being used ONLY by people with very low standards for movies or are somehow rigged.
I'm giving it 3 stars for whatever little entertainment value it had.
Movie begins by showing a regular guy spending good time with his girl friend. But he is not really a regular guy, he is a legendary baddie who criminals tell each other about as their bed time horror stories. Mafia is so scared of him, they call him the "boogeyman". Yet, armed burglars get inside his house and take him by surprise without any resistance from him.
But wait, he is a ghost, a shadow-man ... yet when he doesn't have a gun, he might as well put on a t-shirt that says 'piñata' because even lamers are beating the crap out of him all the time.
But wait, he is fast, he is ruthless and he is on a revenge mission ... yet rivals keep slipping out of his hands, he can't shoot anything unless the target somehow presents itself two feet from his pistol and he needs to be continually rescued by his only true friend who "our hero" doesn't give a damn about.
I think what failed this movie, for me, was the script. Period.
Veer-Zaara (2004)
Great Idea, great acting, worth adding to personal library
Entertainment Value = 10/10 (As long as you were not hired to rate the movie for history channel, you'll be thoroughly entertained)
Story = 10/10 (Grand idea; don't know if it has happened in real life or not, but grand nevertheless. I'd compare this movie to Titanic if Titanic wasn't based on real events)
Scenic Value = 8/10 (Many beautiful shots but nothing out of this world)
Acting = 9/10 (-1 point because SRK overdid the shaking a bit)
Accuracy = 8/10 (Accuracy score would have been lower if it was a documentary or based on a true story)
WARNING: Next line may contain a spoiler.
Special Effects = 4/10 (Come on. A toy bus covered with genie flames?. Strangely though, in a grand story like that, that didn't hurt as much since it wasn't significant compared to the other emotions)
Music = 10/10 (You can listen to this music over and over again and replay the movie in your mind)
Direction = 10/10 (Yash Chopra really knew how to touch people)
Overall = 10/10 (I don't watch too many Indian movies anymore. I go for only movies that people can't stop talking about and I'm glad this one didn't disappoint).
