King Kong (2005)
where was the editor?
I hope the eventual director's cut on DVD features actual CUTS. This was far too long and much less exciting than the original. Every scene was too long. However, if you did see the original the first half was without Kong. It brings in the characters. Peter Jackson did a good job in this part, bringing New York to life and revealing the characters. Action doesn't always mean excitement. Just because a filmmaker has an extensive CGI team doesn't mean he needs to use everything. I hope Peter Jackson realizes that longer is not always better. Unlike LOTR, which followed the original books and brought life to fantastical characters through CGI, this story drags with unneeded scenes.
Deathsport (1978)
one of the ten worst
There was no discernible story. They noise (I suppose it was a soundtrack) was horrific. Half the film was motorcycles driving about without any discernible direction. The acting was awful. Seriously folks, how could any one rate this above a 1, let alone a
10!!!
Steel Dawn (1987)
Another postapocalyptic mess
This movie contained every cliche used in the postapocalyptic genre; mysterious loner, ragtag clothing,
a lot of dirt, the evil warlord (hey haven't we seen innumerable westerns like this?). Worse yet, it was poorly paced, the fight scenes routine, and there were no interesting characters. In the end, do we really care what becomes of the hero, or the girl for that matter. Also, isn't Arnold Vosloo wearing the same get up he wore in the Mummy?
