Robin Hood (1991)
Far superior to Costner's version
19 July 2003
Only thing I liked about Costner's RH was Alan Rickman as the Sheriff. But this take was a "stylistic" departure from the old story. The "theives village" was fascinating! And Bergen was a much more convincing Robin. If you like this one check out the BBC TV production, "Robin of Sherwood" (1984) [TV-Series 1984-1986] starring Jason Connery (son of Sean.) It's the most intersting and "magical" of all Robin versions!!

Serendipity (2001)
8/10
In the style of the old-time romantic comedies
31 May 2002
This is Cusack's best performance since Grosse Pt Blank! The writing is terrific--it harkens back to the classic B&W romantic comedies of the 40's. Imagine a romantic comedy where no one is rolling around in bed!!

Memento (2000)
10/10
Original, intriguing, engrossing
9 September 2001
I was still analyzing this movie for days after watching it! The gimmick is not really new (see Clean Slate w/ Dana Carvey,) BUT it takes a unique, gripping and deadly new look at trying to live w/out memories! The storytelling is FANTASTIC! I was hooked after the opening scene! The direction and acting are terrific as well, Guy Pierce was mesmerizing! Even now I cannot answer where the "right" person was killed, or if Leonard's wife died as he believes he did. Perhaps he has convoluted his story so much that he can no longer rely on the memories that he does have! It's a movie that leaves you with many more questions and you're longing to puzzle it out yourself!

If your looking for something different, compelling and engrossing Memento is for you! If you liked The Usual Suspects and LA Confidential, you'll enjoy Memento!
