Roland Suso Richter is back !
24 January 2001
The impressive work of director Roland Suso Richter gives satisfaction to those, who expect more from a TV-movie. It could also be shown on cinema. That would have been the better way. The director's hit can be seen in the tradition of "14 days lifelong"(14 Tage lebenslaenglich).

Here historic action of the real escape through the highly dangerous Berlin-frontier is interestingly presented. The fabulous camera gives an expression of the death on one side of the Berlin wall and the sadness on the other side. Those scenes are unforgettable, really.

Actor Heino Ferch cannot be followed by the other actors, their acts are one class below. Nevertheless a 'must-see'.

'Handsome' Appealing for Great Research
15 August 2000
At the start, people enjoy the nice Heidelberg and the beautiful students Potente and Loos and male Fuermann. The young director leads the spectator in a weird sphere of 1990s post-modernity and rural traditional social-structures of the 19th century. This "clean" area seduces to approximate to the handsome actors, but while it is growing insecure as strong as for Potente as 'severe' for the spectator, the environment threatens persistently. The coolness of the enforcement-medicinists shudders. In comparison to "Lola's Run (Lola rennt)", oneself is permanently bound to Potente, and her acting is better, Fuermanns women appealing is great, female spectators say. His acting is quite as well as Potentes'. An excellent young-adult movie.

Intellectual and tentious life in the late industrialization era, explaining how political issues grow
8 August 2000
Claude-Oliver Rudolph (James Bond) and Nina Petri (New Reunificated-German Love-Comedy movies) show us their capabilities in this intellectual and historical drawing of the industrialization time in the Ruhr-area. The political impact is developed by the historical and instituional conditions performed by economic might. This is one of those rare non-sugar-honey movies and describe very realistic, how human relations had been formed, realized and changed by life, as they perform nowadays as well.

Getting into the suburban 19th century
8 August 2000
This excellent TV-series carries back the spectators into one industrial suburban town in western europe, here the Ruhr-region in germany. The famous director Staudte opens all aspects of life and of society. For history interested people this film is a treasure, shown often in education facillities.

Defining freedom, generating tention and reflectiveness.
8 August 2000
This non-typical (anti-) war movie takes his power more by the director Sturges than by the famous actors. He puts his people in such good positions and gives a lection in camera- and light- guidance: night and day.

In practice, the air-force captives were brought to a camp at the Taunus mountains, so the distance for biker McQueen must have been far longer.

You cannot avoid being bound to the captives and psychological pressure against freedom, you feel narrowed, too. So the movie does not let you free, thereby it is genius.

Through the wild Curdistan!
27 July 2000
This adventure is more tentious than the "Schut", although Gottlieb is not the considerably better director than R. Siodmak (Schut), but the story is somehow predictable and this is fighting with its suspense. It is worth watching the landscape, that is great.

Best besides cooking, but important for Western fans.
27 July 2000
This movie stresses to Lex Barker, and Winnetou degenerates as a helping rider. For those music fans, rely on Martin Boettcher, Daliah Lavi didn' t sing a typical song. Some kind of action is worth watching the non original Karl May picturization.

Enjoy the landscape of the Balcan area and have tension!
27 July 2000
This "natural" looking and tentious Western will give pleasure to nature-bound spectators as well as to Western fans. The first Winnetou western acts after the introduction of Old-Shatterhand (Lex Barker) and Apache-chief Winnetou (Pierre Brice) in the movie "Winnetou 1". Herbert Lom had been got for playing a colonel, restricted by the script. Marianne Hoppe had her first international movie. For the laughers: Eddie Arent (Lord Castlepool) and Ralf Wolter (Trapper Sam Hawkins) can be seen.

Great Tv-movie
26 July 2000
See the skin-heads interdigitation in society and the danger for the family either. See the madness of this political extremism. Heino Ferch 's first great appearance, not guilty for his retarded brother gets in difficulty with his skin-friends. The police is looking to prevent fire-raising. Hold-tight your nerves, thanks to the director Roland Suso Richter.

If all soldiers are Schwejks', you can forget war.
25 July 2000
This old austrian-czech stories provided the story for the 'honest' soldier Schwejk, who arranges life to his own, not honest, but 'honest'. This movie gives an insight of the Austrian-Hungarian monarchy with its many ethnies and attitudes before WW 1. Rühmann starres charming and smiling, like in other movies.

Swopping shoemaker, rigorous clothes, funny captain !
25 July 2000
This true historic story tells a lot of the Kaiser's era as imperator of germany up to 1918. Rühmann prooves being an excellent comedy-actor. By charm spectators are seduced into the first decade of the 20th century, where life had there no witticism, and keep on Rühmann's side in the movie.

Rate an 11 ! One of the best of the 90ies.
24 July 2000
This beautiful set movie shows the interesting and problematic situation of (musical) artists in Germany and later on of most European states between the world wars. Best actors (Heino Ferch, Ben Becker, Kai Wiesinger and premiere of Ulrich Noethen) guarantee fun between the songs. The actresses (Katja Riemann, Meret Becker (sister of Ben, here lover) and Dana Vavrova (director's wife)) could show more of their capabilitis if the movie would have been longer. The True history makes it very interesting and the director Joseph Vilsmaier is on same level as the other germans: W. Petersen and R. Emmerich.

The music cannot be better: It is the original (technically repaired).

Great womens' music
24 July 2000
Do you like music ? Rock music ? So there is no way not to watch this unconventional actress-musician combination ! Katja Riemann and Jasmin Tabatabai play and sing all emotions music can spread. Top-talent Hannes Jaennicke proves again being one of the best german actors according to Schell, Brandauer, Mueller-Stahl and Prochnow.

Feel in jail, but never bored!
24 July 2000
Never being in jail, this perfect psycho shocker enabled new views on life inside a jail-house in 'humanistic countries' to me. This adult toxic movie is more a psycho than a criminal. If you have turned off the lights, 'Ramon's' and 'Chernetzky's' actions suppress you. Best of the new talent, director Roland Suso Richter.

Only of love, I will kill
24 July 2000
After the comedies in the reunificated Germany had been successful other movies could have been made. In Action Genre 'Die Sieger' (with Herbert Knaup, Hannes Jaennicke and Heinz Hoenig, 1994) and this movie have been realized. Jaennicke and Hoenig (Boot/Boat) show their talents waiting for Hollywood. For Till Schweiger, G. John, G. Otto and C-O. Rudolph (James Bond) had got their chances, both are waiting for it. Here the taxi-driver Mrs Riemann plays a role designed for herself and fulfilling it to the best, rational and wild. Hoenig plays the cool sadist like in many roles. Jaennicke can show his talent to seduce spectators. The plot is good and surprising, and is inviting to watch.

Convincing the non-pirates
24 July 2000
Certainly it is not as good as the classics, but the movie combines an action-film with a pirate- and nature-celluloide.

Sometimes it is falling back into those gender patterns, G. Davis wants to quit, this is one of its weaknesses. But it is very tentious and non-boring made. The director may have been a great camera-man, too.

Do Men feel 'moved' ?
24 July 2000
This successful highlight of the Reunificated-German-Love-Comedy era doesn't hide any messages, it is new-german shameless humour with higher fun-streams. Actor Joachim Krol shows his talent, for Till Schweiger it has been his breakthrough in his career.

Excellent truth, instead of sterotypes.
24 July 2000
'The thin red line' and 'Saving Private Ryan' are both better realized, but "Hitlerjunge Salomon / Europe" is far better incorporating the persons in history and arising the negativity of some liberators, too. No sterotype will be kept, therefore this excellent polish-german co-production is shown all over the world in schools. One of the best movie of the 1990s.

A film-amoureus never to forget
24 July 2000
This movie has a sad entrance, a sad climax and a sad end, but between it is crazy, it is postmodern-french, it is fabulous and Sophie Marceau is growing bigger here. Sometimes remembered at P. Greenaway, I would see parallels to Damage/Fatale (1992): an interesting erotic drama with some sad moments and good actors especially actresses. Find out, who plays better, J. Binoche (Damage) or S. Marceau here !

Clear-sighted focus on an entrepreneurs-family
24 July 2000
Function, effectivity and immorality are shown. So dictators can succeed worldwide as they did. This project was not shown in cinema to show it more spectators! Burt Lancaster and Julie Christie play the capital of the family, swiss, austrian and german stars surround them and give thoughtful action, instead of explosions and direct murders. A must for every high-schooler.

The answer, why communism didn't spread in europe
24 July 2000
B. Sukowa and D. Olbrychski (The Drum) play the famous german revolutionaries, that wanted to shape another germany after the Kaiser's empire and the German Republic of Weimar. Many resistances have been shaped out clearly by directrice Lady von Trotta. So she is in great tradition of West-german-historical-movie like W. Petersen. Her stars are very capable: Daniel Olbrychski and Hannes Jaenicke. Intellectual, fevering and never boring.

Funny faces- One Didi
24 July 2000
Dr. Dieter Hallervorden 'Didi' (Dr. in Romanistics) made his 2nd movie in 1984 of the New-West-German-Comedy (1970s-1989) era. The revenge of the non-heiring persons was planed with not so much intellect, but the simple gags are a sign of that time. If you enter it with a kind of funny, small humour, you won't forget ever, if you expect intellect or long arranged gags, then you should stay out.

Down with the lift, Sir !
24 July 2000
Psycho criminal pure by Carl Schenkel, who is active in Hollywood, like Mrs Soutendijk. Goetz George and Hannes Jaenicke are stealing the spectator's last peace of snugness. They are too able, how can I get calm into a lift next time ?

Truth, instead of stereotypes
24 July 2000
It is rare to see not only an emotional movie, but also a rational and 'male' one. Guiding through the different and ambivalent characters, the visitor's hand is been given to the actors' capabilities: the singer Herbert Groenemeyer (Lt. Werner), the Hollywood actor J. Prochnow (Cpt-Lt. / "Kaloin"). The Radio-technician Heinz Hoenig has become Germany's most popular actor in the 1990s. Claude-Oliver Rudolph (chauvinist machine-room soldier) makes international movies (f.e. James Bond). Hubertus Bengsch (Nazi officer, 1-WO) is one of the most famous synchronisator in the german-speaking area. - The componist GOLDINGER, a famous jazz-musician, composed other musics afterwards for TV. The director Petersen's further possibilities are shown in "The storm" (2000). And when will the Duo Petersen / Eichinger cooperate together again ? One missing part of the story is the peoples time between leaving the Atlantic Ocean and entering home harbour. The big TV-movies add the capital movie, for the interested (ca. 360 min.).

Literature ! Forget Austen and the Brontes!
24 July 2000
Director Alfred Weidenmann shows how world-literature can be. As on high-level as the book by Theodor Storm. No fun, but interesting. This book is the culture-shock for all Flubbers, Caspers and E-Mail-for-You-sers. This will show you the important things in life with fantasy and west-elbian sternness in behaviour. Actor Gert Fröbe at his best.
