The plots vs the acting
18 December 2023
I gave this crime series a 6. I would have given a 7 if the acting of nearly ALL actors would have been better. The city location of each episode is quite decent and perhaps even tempting for future vacation destinations. All of the ship's locations (eg, auditorium, bar, restaurant, rooms) are an unnecessary distraction. Actually, who would like to book a cruise on a ship that is constantly involved in murders??? The 1970s Love Boat series was - at the very least - appealing to consider a cruise. This series enables the very opposite thinking. That very thought warrants an overall 6 rating. The plots are, however, too decent to warrant the overall 5.4 average rating.

a HUGE surprise
25 August 2023
I assumed this was another dreadful LGBTQ film, which it was - quite surprisingly - NOT.

This film is a huge, positive surprise.

It's actually a SPLENDID romantic comedy, in the very best of its traditions (eg, When Harry met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, Love Actually). Perhaps, I'll might even give it a 9 rather than my present 8 - obviously in due course.

I suppose the convincing chemistry between the two male characters makes you FORGET it's a LGBTQ film. That is a huge compliment as far as I'm concerned. The various side characters fulfil their roles well.

I would not be surprised if and when this film would get (several?) sequels. I just might watch them all.........

Amazingly dull
10 February 2023
This film has great actors. The storyline offers plenty of opportunities. The acting isn't even bad. My 6 has been rounded upwards. The average is already below 6 while writing this review. This film is so dull and almost boring. Even the trailer is more funny than the entire film. Is it a comedy? Not really. Is it drama? Not really. Is it a romance movie? Perhaps for a few minutes. Is it dull? Yes and unfortunately. But why??? Is it related to Netflix quality control ? More and more, I'm inclined to think so. What a shame. Soon the updated Netflix access controls will kick me out. It feels almost a blessing in disguise.

A captivating and classic thriller
31 August 2022
This series captures your attention as from episode 1. It's different from similar American tv series with respect to pace, complexity, budget and its noir-ish style. It almost feels European in a certain way. This may explain the flood of unwarranted (!!) negative comments.

I've seen three episodes now and I'm still clueless about the nature of the various parties involved, apart from the FBI. As a viewer you know nothing more than the FBI, which makes you help to understand their exasperation.

This series could also be renamed into: Trust no one. The lack of trust - and sometimes clear mistrust - between the characters until Ep04 works remarkably well.

My advice: ignore the negative comments and start watching episode 1. You'll be hooked within MINUTES.

A gem amongst Netflix rocks
9 May 2022
You need to see the entire movie to appreciate my very high rating (ie, 9). The storyline is somewhat simple, at times predictable and still very elegant in its message. The closing scene is superb.

Cheap but not bad at all
4 May 2022
I know that cheap has a negative connotation. This film indeed suffers from a low (cheap) budget but this movie isn't as bad as many people try to claim on IMDb. Perhaps, it'll get a more fancy remake someday. Then this original will be positively reevaluated. Until that date, you might want to form your own opinion.

Define funny please
10 April 2022
It's not common that I disagree with IMDb ratings. Usually, reviews are too negative. This is a rare example of the opposite. This comedy series is only funny when you appreciate this type of humour. Clearly, I do not. The humour gets more boring after each episode. I wonder if there's even a story line apart from renovating the mansion. My rating of 5 out of 10 is the best that I could give. Lower is still an option.

Not funny but still captivating
17 February 2022
Usually, I know if a movie is good enough to watch within 5 minutes. Well, this film is certainly not a comedy and I've considered several times quitting watching. Nevertheless, I watched it until the very end as this satirical dystopian film is quite captivating. Giving a rating here is difficult however. I have decided on a 7 because of its message which is not over the top and might indeed resemble a certain kind of future.

Movie just doesn't get funny
9 December 2021
This comedy is probably one of the worst I've ever seen. Such a great cast. Nevertheless, a lack of humour from the very start. FYI: I quit watching after some 40 minutes. I just gave up on this movie.

Control freak vs high school sweetheart
27 July 2021
The female character is a control freak who gets dumped by her high school sweetheart just before getting married. He (but not me) thinks he made a mistake and travels towards their former honeymoon destination in order to Change her mind. I considered giving a 5 but refrained from that impulse given that it's ending offers some hope for future improvement.

Thomas Crown meets Monte Christo
10 January 2021
This Netflix series borrows heavily on two other movies, being the Thomas Crown Affair and the Count of Monte Christo. Without the presence of Omar Sy, this borrowing would have been felt tremendously. Omar Sy is capable of creating his own unique blend of these two beautiful other movies. Well done, Omar !

Low budget movie made with love
15 July 2020
I was unaware of this Omar Sy movie and watched it with pleasure on Netflix. You can clearly see that the movie was made with a low budget. You can also see that the movie was made with love. That combination warrants my rating of 7.

A modern McCloud
21 October 2018
In the 1970s I grew up with McCloud, a US Marshal from Santa Fe, New Mexico (if I recall well). Tim Olyphant plays his role like McCloud did. I like the atmosphere of this TV series. It feels genuine. Without Amazon Prime Video I would never have seen it.
