The L Word (I) (2004–2009)
7/10
season 1 = great! season 2 = not
19 June 2006
First season is great! Great love scenes. Dreamy characters. The story isn't brilliant but it's nice enough. All in all it's well worth watching!

Second season is disappointing. And it's not just because there's less sex in it. Losing the sex isn't a disaster, no it can even make it better. But in this case it doesn't. It only makes the bad script more visible. Beth becomes more human and the Tonya and Jenny characters become even likable. But this does not make the script better. Story lines pop up out of nowhere and other story lines are not finished. The L word started out as a good series but the second season isn't very good. Hope the third season is going to make up for it.

Napoléon (2002)

wish Abel Gance were here
29 January 2004
This is the best film about Napoleon I've ever seen! This is even the best than every remake abel gance himself made later. Excellent! Voted 10! This I wrote for the 1927 version by Abel Gance. I wish he directed this epic. What a disappointment this mini series was. This was the dream of Abel Gance to make a series like this. I wish he directed this. He would've made a marvelous epic. Not a boring one like this. voted 5.

The Other Boleyn Girl (2003 TV Movie)
8/10
This is a film worth wile seeing. But don't expect to see a conventional historical epic.
22 January 2004
I have mixed feelings about this film. I appreciated the use of color, it represents the harshness of the time. It's a nice change to see a period piece that's not glamorous. I can imagine it's tempting to make the good looking cast even better looking. The confessions in the camera I didn't understand. I do understand it was an

attempt to make it more intimate. But I don't think it workout that well here. I consider it to modern. It works in comedy like 'the private life of Samuel Pepys'. There it was brilliant. Maybe they could've used a confession setting for these scene's instead of putting them into a room speaking to the camera. And used

more close-ups instead of medium shots. That would make it more intimate and

dramatic.

The acting is superb! I enjoyed to see Jodhi May paying a wicked woman for a

change. She portrayed Anne Boleyn very good Her sick and cruel pleasure to

torture her family by for example trying to marry of her sister to a fat ugly man. Her frightening ambition and abuse of power is portrayed brilliantly.

The actor who played Henry and the actress who played Mary were also

brilliant. The rest of the cast were very complementary to the leading ladies and man.

Very good.

This is not a story about one person. It's about relations between people. This movie explains why Mary survived.

This is really a film worth wile seeing. But don't expect to see a conventional historical epic.

Not brilliant but good
1 January 2004
I agree with Tito-8 it's hard to have sympathy with the leading lady or any other character in the movie. Although watching it for the second time it's easier. The story is good and i can imagine realistic, cinematography and settings are good.

I totally agree with everything NIKOS SONIC (1966nm) from MEXICO (see

othercomments on this film) has said. this movie is more than skin deep.

I think this film deserves better. Maybe it's to realistic and Hollywood doesn't like that. I've seen worse films (like you've got mail and a Chorus Line) So i voted 7.

SUPERB ANTI WAR FILM
27 December 2003
'How Can You Live With Yourself When You Cannot Look At Yourself...' This is a superb film. It makes me sad and angry. This is one of the great classic anti war movies. When you like Al quiet on the western front, Gallipoli and La vie et rien d'autre you most definitely should see this film!!! Beautiful cinematography, lighting, camera, great acting and story / script. The director (François Dupeyron) made a moving picture. I hadn't seen a movie about world war I victims that have disfigured faces. But I read books about it. The look of Frankensteins monster is based upon these

men. The horror of this world war has had is effect on not only film, but art and daily life as well. This was the first war with weapons of mass destruction,

revolutionary weapons. But medicine and surgery advanced as well. So this war has created living monsters. This movie shows how these monsters survived

during and after the war.

SUPERB FILM!!! I rated 9.

The superb acting could not save this film.
27 December 2003
A real pity. The acting is really superb but the film is too long. It is admirable when a film is historically accurate but the danger of becoming slow is great. The director seems to find it difficult to 'kill his babies'. The personal problems of the actors are only described a little bit. To little to become interesting for the story, so it's only interesting.

Hulk (2003)
not very good, pity.
18 August 2003
I have fond memories about the Hulk when it was on tv. This movie

is a big disappointment. The story begins great then after 10 or 15

minutes the pace slows down and becomes boring until the Hulk

shows up. I enjoyed the special effects, but I think it could've used

more humor. The jumping over the mountains is just silly.

The split screen weakens the impact of the images instead of

making it stronger. A better example of perfect split screen use is

the BBC series Spooks. I rated 3.

Good acting, make-up and special effects but terrible story
1 September 2001
I like the special effects and make-up. The acting is good. Tim

Burton sent every actor to ape school. So the actors really had ape

like behavior. The ape masks and make-up are so good that the

actors can act right through them. But this all can not hide the terrible story. It's full of holes. I really like Tim Burton films but I was disappointed with this one. Hope the next Tim Burton film will be a real Tim Burton film again.

We make great movies, this isn't one of them
10 March 2001
They said it would be a film greater than Turks Fruit. How dare

they? It's not even 10% of this classic. Bad acting. The only character i felt sympathy for was the one

played by Angela Schijf. Her acting was the best in the whole film. The story could've been interesting, but it wasn't. Some scenes were very beautiful filmed (lights and camera), (the

opening scene for example), but the bad acting made the magic

disappear.

I really don't understand why so many people voted this film so

good.

very funny short musical
9 March 2001
The story in short: Maria Machita is a young girl with two sisters and two brothers, her father and mother died and she has to take care of them. She falls in love with a man that looks like her father. When they split up an old boyfriend shows up.... De tranen van Maria Machita is the third film of Paul Ruven. The film was rewarded several prizes, the prize of the city Utrecht, the Tuschinski Award and a Golden Calf for the best short Dutch film. The humor is at times a bit bizar and sort of cruel but very funny.

Forget Silence and Manhunter when you go and see Hannibal
6 March 2001
Manhunter and Silence of the Lambs are great thrillers. When you go and see Hannibal forget them, because you are going to a horror film. The violence is shown raw and in detail (remember not to buy any popcorn). Acting is great Hopkins is again a great Hannibal, but director Ridley Scott didn't make him as attractive as Demme did. Jullianne Moore is a great Clarice, as much as I loved Jodie Foster I didn't miss her. I even think that for this movie Moore is a better choice. And I also thought the actor who played the Italian inspector was great. But I don't think much of the story, and the ending was disappointing. And as the realistic violence is not my cup of tea I voted 6.

this isn't a great movie

Predictable story. Acting isn't very good but I've seen worse.

Timothy Dalton has done better. The fade-ins and -outs were really annoying. I regret buying the DVD.

the best musical I have ever seen
6 March 2001
Great songs, funny, great acting, great story, extraordinary and a sexy Tim Curry. If you have a DVD player i can really recommend the 25 years of absolute pleasure Rocky Horror Picture Show DVD.

It has a lot of extras on it. It took me two evenings to watch the two disks. Great fun!!!

great story, great acting, but why isn't this a great movie?
2 October 2000
Gave it a 7. I like the story and the acting is very good, but it isn't a very convincing film. I'm still puzzled by that.

Although Jodie Fosters acting is great it isn't convincing me why Anne (Foster) is falling for her own killer. Than there are the eccentricities that ended up embarrassing to watch because Dennis Hopper can do a better job at it than he does here. It's a pity when everything for a very good film is there but somehow it doesn't
