Serenity (2005)
The new standard for Action/Adventure/Sci-fi movies to come.
I saw this movie at a pre-screening in Minneapolis and let me just say that this is probably the best movie I've seen since the first Matrix. I left the theater feeling like I got my butt kicked. It was much of a roller coaster ride. So many highs and lows that come out you so fast it seems like it happens at the same time. It tears you apart. The characters are great, the dialog is snappy and at times very funny. And the universe that they create seems very unique and yet familiar. The action is superb. There's gunfight's, Kung-Fu, old fashion tough guy beat-downs, spaceships, hovercraft chases, sword fights and human pyshcotic monsters (reavers). It seems like they a little bit of something for everyone. I can't wait to watch this movie again!
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997)
I don't understand why shows like this get no respect.
Anyone who will honestly sit down and watch a couple seasons of this show will find it incredibly hard to not like it. A lot of people here the name of the show and automatically dismiss it as cult fan garbage. That is simply not the case. This show is as well written, directed and acted as any show on TV. I think it's better it most respects. One of the things it does well is character development. There are a lot of changes even from season to season. It refreshing to see that, you care about them more because they go through things that you went through. A show like CSI you'll have virtually no character evolution. Grissom is basically the same guy he was in the first season. Oh no, wait, I guess he's got a beard now. Yeah, that's completely different. In Buffy you get to see her go from high school student to college student to burger flipper to mom all while saving the world. That's what I'm talking about. Give this show a chance. The first season maybe a little rocky because their establishing a lot of things but the second season onward really rocks.
Firefly (2002)
One of the greatest shows ever.....Really it is.
I can't say enough good things about this show. From the pilot to the last episode, it is strong all the way through. It episode got noticeably better as it went on. Just when you thought that there was no way from them to top the previous episode, they did. The Character's are some of the best I seen. They are so interesting in their interactions. The dialog is top notch and extremely witty. Some episodes are non stop one liners that will have you rolling on the floor while other episodes can be quite chilling or dramatic. This show has it all and I truly think it something that can be enjoyed by everyone. It doesn't suffer from the same sci-fi stereo-types, in fact it goes against them somewhat. I can almost guarantee that you will like this show. Like I said, it has a lot of appeal for a wide group of people. Give it a shot, you WILL NOT be disappointed.
Spider-Man 2 (2004)
This is the new standard for comic book movies to come!
I just came back from a premier of Spider-man 2 and let me say that it is one of the best Superhero movies ever. Scratch that, it is one of the best MOVIES ever. Maybe i'm just riding the high of coming back from it but I don't know, I really don't think I'll change my mind anytime soon. I don't want to spoil anything so I won't but you gotta trust me on this and just go see it. I enjoyed every minute of it and wasn't bored for one second. I thought it handled the continuity of the previous movie well and it incorporated other elements from the Spider-man universes that really added to the franchise(movie). I was surprised how well they were to pull this off. This movie is far superior to Spider-man 1. Not that the first one wasn't good, I liked it a lot but this one just blows it out of the water IMO. Also being a big fan of Sam Raimi I was glad to see more "Raimi-isms" in the film. It seems like they gave several nods to the Evil Dead/Army of Darkness movies. Which was super cool the way the did it and didn't interfere with the movie at all. I was kinda of giddy when I was watching those scenes. Anyway, go watch it. It's a great movie. As I said, I think it's one of the best Superhero movies ever.
Gung Ho (1986)
WOW! I can't believe this movie is so poorly rated.
I think it great example of the differences between two cultures. It would be a great movie to show in a sociology class. I thought it was pretty funny and I must say that i am a sucker for that "lets band together and get the job done" plot device. It seems most people don't realize that this movie is not just a comedy. It has a few dramatic elements in it as well and I think they blend in nicely. Overall, I give it a solid 8.
Titanic (1997)
The Ultimate "Big Screen" Movie
There seems to be alot of bad reviews for this movie these days which I find pretty funny considering it has made more money than any other and it is tied for more oscars than any other. How could this movie be getting such Bad press? Well, you could say it was all those teenage girls going back to see it over and over again (which I'm sure accounted for at least 500 million of the 1.8 Billion) Or you could say that we were all brainwashed by the greatest hype machine ever created. So much hype that it even won almost ever oscar catagory on the ballot. But the real reason is, this movie is the Ultimate Big Screen movie ever made. This movie just isn't the same on a small screen. It's completely different. As a matter of fact, it is so different that I give it a 7 at home and a 10 at the theater. If you have seen the movie in both places then you know what I am talking about.
