Blade (1998)
Solid action, but not a "real" vampire-movie
18 July 2002
Wesley Snipes has probably given the performance of his life as the ultimate badass in Blade. He's always in control of things and of course he always has exceptional cool one-liners such as: "Some mother****ers always trying to ice skate uphill". No need to say, he kicks butt.

As an action-movie Blade works very well, if not superbly: the action is neatly done with a close attention to detail making it very entertaining, which is the whole point when watching a movie. As a vampire-movie the movie doesn't work at all, more or less. The whole plot doesn't seem very believable, so to speak hypothetically. The script is not particularly original and also filled with plot holes, but still it manages to tell a story about Blade the Daywalker in a fast and entertaining pace keeping you entertained. Though, there are other movies such as Interview with a Vampire which succeed in telling a fascinating story about vampires, which we are led to believe in, again speaking clearly hypothetically. Blade does not do this.

In overall an excellent and fulfilled action-movie, but if you're looking for an intellectual vampire-movie I wouldn't go with Blade.

Crimson Tide (1995)
Good Submarine Action-movie
17 July 2002
Tony Scott has made a lot of great action-movies, such as Spy Game, Enemy of the State, Top Gun and not to mention True Romance as my favourtie Scott movie. Crimson Tide is no exception. A very suspenseful thriller, which delivers everything, a good action-thriller should deliver with excellent performances from Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman, memorable action-scenes and quotes. While the movie has to stand down to the classic Das Boot and Hunt for Red October, it is far superior to the more or less unimaginative U-571 still making Crimson Tide to a good submarine movie. When comparing with Scott's other movies, True Romance is still the only one to beat Crimson Tide while Spy Game hits the same rank

Probably the best Lethal Weapon
2 June 2002
The first Lethal Weapon lay out the ground for the characters and it's also the most important thing in the movies namely the great "chemistry" between Danny Glover and Mel Gibson. When you had gotten to learn them in the first movie there was a lot to build on in the LW2 and they sure succeeded in doing this. It's is truly the best of them all: it's funnier; it has better action and better performances from the actors and especially from Joe Pesci. Still, the three others are also nice action-movies. The story is good, nothing great but good; it's more or less similar to the other movies.

In overall an excellent and superior sequel to Lethal Weapon, a job well done!

One of the Best Movies of All Time
26 April 2002
The Terminator is one of the truly best sci-fi movies that exist today. The plot is fantastic also making it one of my favourite movies along with the sequel. The story of Sarah Connor and The Terminator really blew me away first time I watched it, as a kid. The only times I actually were allowed to watch it was when I was sick and had to stay home and my mother permitted me to watch it. I was so happy, those were the times!

Well, The Terminator has a fantastic dark atmosphere unlike T2, really underlining the scary story being told. The score also has great influence on this matter; it has a very dark and edgy feel to it, however the main theme is kind of sad. Arnold Schwarzenegger is a perfect cast as the cynical Terminator and he would be hard to imagine playing the hero, since Michael Biehn does it very well.

James Cameron laid his ground on this movie making a lot of top-notch movies; still this is one of his best. There are many memorable scenes, although the "cat scene" is the best, I really like the way the Terminator and the motel-guy talks: AY BAHDEE YA GAT A DEAD GAT IN DER ER WHAT? FAWK-YOU-ASS-WHOLE.

The special effects, however, are all but mind-blowing. I didn't notice it when I was kid, but now e.g. it looks really funny when we see the endoskeleton walk around. Of course special effects doesn't make a movie, but it's the only thing this movie lacks.

Panic Room (2002)
Suspenseful Thriller
11 April 2002
Even with its rather simple plot David Fincher achieves making Panic Room a suspenseful thriller, which keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the movie. Once started, it never slows down. Fincher uses the camera superbly and it certainly has excellent and memorable scenes, not only because of the camerawork, but also from the great acting by Jodie Foster and Dwight Yoakam who plays the extreme psychopath. The movie is quite claustrophobic since it takes place in a rather creepy house. Even though it doesn't live up to Finhcer's previous films, such as Se7en and Fight Club, I don't mind he's taking a break from his quite complex movies, e.g. The Game, he just prooved that that's not all he does. In overall it's a splendid movie, definitely worth watching.

Impressive movie, but lacks originality
12 March 2002
While knowing nothing about the video games of Final Fantasy, but knowing that movies based on video games usually doesn't work out, I didn't think that Final Fantasy The Spirits Within would be any good. But already in the very beginning I was impressed by the beautiful shots and the great atmosphere. The CGI are really unbelievable and the characters are very well made. There's a close eye on details e.g. on vehicles, which is a good plus. The story lacks somewhat in originality, it does have some clichés, but nevertheless the story is good. In overall it's a decent movie, with no major plot holes or goofs.

Training Day (2001)
Excellent cop flick
10 March 2002
It was real refreshing watching Denzel Washington in a different part, and he did a great job in the movie along with Ethan Hawke. It starts off slow, building up the characters in a nice way, but suddenly turns into being a suspenseful thriller. While not being 100% realistic the movie does create a universe we are led to believe in. There's is a surprisingly small amount of stupid Hollywood action or romantic scenes etc., making it more realistic. It's an entertaining, but different and raw movie, which I hope director Antoine Fuqua keeps on making.

Great, but not perfect movie
10 March 2002
Let me start off by saying Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is a GREAT and splendid movie. It has a close eye on details and is so very consistent in its universe, making it almost impossible to compare it with other adventure movies (Star Wars might be an exception!). I haven't read any of Tolkien's books, but I have been told that it really follows the book nice, leaving some elements that would make the already 3 hour long movie into a 5 hour long movie.

The actors haven been chosen carefully, no hotshot Hollywood actors, which was good. Elijah Wood was excellent as Frodo and Ian McKellen was great as Gandalf. Viggo Mortensen also did a good job (well, I had to say this since he's from the same country as me).

The special effects were fairish, neither astounding nor incredible. The action scenes were good, although sometimes confusing which was a shame; after all they did work on this movie for quite some time.

On the whole, it's a kicksass adventure movie, one of the best in the genre of all time and a great start for the trilogy.

Jaws (1975)
Definitely not as good as people say it is
19 February 2002
I don't get this movie. A giant shark terrorising a beach on a small Island must be killed in order to continue making money on tourism (well, of course it's NOT only to be killed in order to make money on tourism, it just gave me this impression). This is the story? Or did I miss out on something? I'm sure someone could have come up with a better and more original script.

I had to see this movie twice to complete the whole movie since I fell asleep the fist time watching. Almost nothing exiting happens in the 125 minutes that it lasted, no suspense at all. Maybe I have a short attention span, but nothing scared me either to keep me awake or keep me interested. This was probably partially because the shark seemed very fake and unrealistic but the score by Williams really tried to cover up for this, and he almost succeeded.

There's not much to say about the acting, Richard Dreyfuss did best but he wasn't mind-blowing, though above average. As of the rest of the actors, they were simply average.

Some tell me to give it another chance (just saw it again yesterday), but as I do it only gets worse. Surely not a movie I can recommend to any. Maybe I'm being too hard on the movie but it just doesn't appeal to me.

Predator (1987)
Nice Sci-fi thriller
13 November 2001
Arnold simply rocks in this movie although this is a rarity in his movies, except for the two Terminator movies of course. Predator delivers suspense at its best, even though I find the plot outline to be very similar to Aliens. This of course might be a coincidence. The classic score by Alan Silvestri (?) is very nicely done and highlights the great atmosphere. You definitely have to look out for director John McTiernan as he makes kick-ass movies, such as Die Hard 1 & 3, Thomas Crown Affair and Hunt for Red October.

Nice action-movie but with a cheesy script
9 October 2001
There are a lot cool things about The Fast and The Furious, but the script lacks originality and it's uninspired. The cool things about Fast & Furious are of course the top tuned cars, the beautiful shots, and the good sound/music. It's all about street racing with "ordinary cars", but mixed in with a crime and love story. The shots are really nice, if not impressive but the story is still filled with clichés. In overall it's a really entertaining movie and if you like fast cars and adrenalin, then this is definitely for you.

A Fair Action-Movie but cheesy in some ways
16 September 2001
Jet Li is back in this new action movie, that beats Romeo Must Die. The plot is ok, for an martial arts movie and with its rather simple plot, Jet Li gets to kill a lot of bad guys, once again. The movie is entertaining but I would have expected more from writer Luc Besson. It's beautiful shot and the fight scenes are quite cool, but also cheesy at some points. Jet Li is no great actor, which I think is why he always plays a silent killer. This is also here the movie fails, but he is fantastic in martial arts, kung fu, etc., but since this just isn't enough in an action movie it becomes stupid at some points.

In overall I think it's entertaining, but sometimes cheesy in certain ways, like the acting and the fight scenes.

Incredible movie
11 September 2001
One of the ultimate BEST movies ever made. Everything in this movie is perfect, it succeeds in every aspect. We have all the usual and unusual ingredients that makes this a kick-ass movie. The score, acting cinematography is amazing, not to mention the brilliant directing by M. Night. The story is one of the best ever in cinematic history with an very unusual but great twist in the end, which leaves you breathless. Amazing, brilliant and INCREDIBLE MOVIE! Don't miss this one.

One of the worst movies EVER
11 September 2001
Toward the end of this movie I was still wondering if the writer/director turned this into a bad movie just because he wanted to or if he was so untalented, yes it's that bad. First of all the story is ridiculous way beyond your imagination just as the acting. The cinematographer absolutely don't know how shoot a movie since it looks like as if they did the shooting in only one take, without worrying about the consequences. The composer didn't even try to make a good score (well, maybe he tried but he sure didn't succeed) to cover up for the cheap special effects, acting or the story. It's unoriginal and doesn't deserve more than one star, but I rated with two since it's rare I rate movies with only one star.

Avoid this movie at any costs!

RoboCop (1987)
A Classic!
11 August 2001
Ultraviolence at its best! RoboCop is one of the most violent movies I have ever seen, but this doesn't make it bad at all. Paul Verhoeven exaggerates with violence into a whole new level in cinematic history, and has thereby created a great atmosphere, which makes it a great movie. The story is fairly good (good guys vs. bad guys), ok for a sci-fi action-movie. The acting was good and I especially liked Kurtwood Smith (Clarence) as the arch villain, somehow his parts in movies always end up being a bad guy and he's outstanding in that specific job! In overall it holds a great entertaining-value and is a movie you can watch over and over again!

Just as good, if not better than DIE HARD
5 August 2001
Is Die Hard: With a Vengeance better than the classic Die Hard? I still can't, after a couple of years, make up my mind. Well, one thing is for sure: They are some of the GREATEST action movies ever! Die Hard 3 is very entertaining and makes a nice twist in the story, making it a lot better than what I thought to begin with. Samuel L. Jackson is one of my all-time favourites ana is brilliant as Zeus, Bruce Willis is still a God as NYPD cop John McClane.

As in every Die Hard movie there is very intense action scenes, great explosions and adrenaline rushes throughout the movie. An excellent sequel, don't miss this one!

Die Hard 2 (1990)
Same action, same lines, still entertaining!
5 August 2001
Die Hard 2 is very similar to Die Hard, hence making it not as good as the original, we've seen it before. Still, the action, the directing and acting is very good. It's a good sequel and it succeeds in being a good movie, since it's entertaining! It's still an adrenaline rush and has some very intense scenes, but it's not a top notch action-thriller like the original.

Die Hard (1988)
Great Action, a true Classic
5 August 2001
An almost perfect action movie with the perfect cast as the good and bad guys. The directing, the story and acting are brilliant. The story doesn't slow down when first started and you might expect a rather stupid plot in a action movie, but it's not. This happens to have a a really good plot. It's exciting, quite claustrophobic and makes the adrenaline rush through your body. It's non-stop action and leaves you breathless till the very the end!

The 6th Day (2000)
A VERY thin Movie
1 August 2001
Sixth Day was an very thin experience and it doesn't help to reduce the violence in the movie, just to get the age certification to a PG-13 just to make some more money. Another thing is to put morale into the movie since it's pure nonsense and what could have been a nice action-flick. The special effects could have covered up for the cheesy story, but since they are no greater than rest of the movie, they didn't. The acting is almost embarrassing to watch and the last monologue about family values is so sickening that you would have to be near a toilet or a sink before watching this movie, if you get my point.

A Good Mummy-movie
1 August 2001
If you liked The Mummy you are absolutely going to like this, there is a lot of action, mummies, evil Egyptians and awesome special effects. The two movies are connected in a very nice way, actually making the original better after seeing the sequel. It's a good mummy-movie with some beautiful shots and it sure is entertaining. It's actually somewhat better than the original since the story is better and more intense than the original.

Good entertainment, but with no greater depth
1 August 2001
The story in Tomb Raider is fairly cheesy and is absolutely only used as an excuse to make some nice action-scenes. But since it doesn't pretend to be something it's not, I don't mind the story. TR is supposed to be entertaining and it is. The movie is probably only (well, maybe not only...) for boys who likes guns and funny exploding gadgets. The special effects were nothing new, but still nice to watch, not to mention Angelina Jolie...! In overall a fairly cheesy story but with an ok entertaining-value.

Good Sequel to the disappointing Lost World
31 July 2001
This movie was, believe it or not, better than The Lost World. I thought that it would be another stupid sequel, but it actually had an ok story, cheesy at some points but good. Sam Neil is doing a good job as in Jurassic Park and the special effects are a pure pleasure to watch. The story might be very similar to the original JP but that's fine with me, since JP was entertaining and it had some of the same atmosphere, it was here The Lost World failed, it lost the atmosphere of JP and got boring. In overall a good sequel and worth a peep if you like Jurassic Park.

A Rather Poor Sequel ***CONTAINS SPOILERS***
31 July 2001
Warning: Spoilers
It would always be hard to live up to the original Jurassic Park and The Lost World didn't either. The story is probably as cheesy as they come, the ending was plain stupid, a T-REX walking around in a big city just reminded me too much of Godzilla, and that that movie was not a pretty sight! The beginning was good, but it was all down hill from there. It did have some good and intense moments but not enough to save it from the cheesy story. The special effects were good, but not better than Jurassic Park. In overall not a good sequel, a REAL no-brainer movie, which I don't recommend.

Jurassic Park (1993)
A Rather Good Dinosaur Flick ***CONTAINS MINOR SPOILERS***
31 July 2001
Warning: Spoilers
This movie really blew my mind back in 1993, the special effects were fantastic, I really liked the movie! Back here in the year of 2001 I've had another opinion: The movie is still good, although the story is somewhat cheesy: We all know that something bad is going to happen, and it did, and we all know that is will have a happy ending, and it did. This is of course the basis of a movie since everyone seems to enjoy it, myself included since it's entertaining. But in overall it's a really good movie, don't miss it!

Dogma (1999)
An original and excellent movie
25 July 2001
This movie is very funny and delivers some fantastic yet very dark humour, so if you are into that, you are going to love this movie. It has one of the funniest stories of all time which made me laugh almost all the way through the movie, even though I was the only one watching. The actors were all doing a great job as the director Kevin Smith, the first movie I saw made by him. One thing I actually didn't like was the ending which was fairly weak, too bad.

In overall a great movie: 9 out of 10
