What an Awful Movie
6 March 2002
Warning: Spoilers
***Spoilers******

My problems with the movie have been re-hashed by several of those who have commented on it already so I will merely outline some point that made this movie absolutley hysterical

* I wonder where a mutan alien with wings learns how to operate a car. Very interesting, I'd hate to see THAT driver's license photo

* On top of being extremely scary our "Creeper" is very witty as well. He has the ability to pick out a fitting vanity license plate (not sure where he bought it....no shirt, no shoes, no service) that describes his behaviour and also to realize that the song "Jeepers Creepers" ironically does as well.

* Small town police station complete with S.W.A.T. team

* "Hey, that's not my scarecrow" (worst line in any movie.....EVER)

* The Creeper must have a great ability in launching those bodies down the tube because they had somehow been thrown down in such a manner that the bottom of the tube was body free when the brother fell in. The body had either flown or bounced well out of the tube landing area.

There were more that I can't remember but I laughed my butt off during the whole thing.

Dinner with Friends (2001 TV Movie)
Painful to Watch
23 January 2002
Being a big Greg Kinnear fan I was awaiting the release of this movie. Unfortunatley it was a slow moving, talk fest that I just couldn't get into. I thought the storyline was bad and that by the end of the movie that nothing had really happened. I felt like I had just been in a fight with my girlfriend for 90 minutes and it finally was over. If you are under 30 years old I would avoid this movie. It was horrible.

I hope Kinnear goes back to comedy because though I thought he did an admirable job in this movie he is much more suited to comedic roles.

2/10

What a Good Movie!
23 January 2002
I cannot believe the rankings that this movie is getting because I thought it was great. The reason it gets such low rankings is that everyone turned their minds off the minute she started talking to the camera because any movie that acknowledge the "4th wall" can't be worth watching. Get over it. Much like Shante too many people who watch movies follow rules when the do so and miss out on great stuff when they form impression of movies before they are even started. The acting in this movie was top-notch. Fox played a confident women, which may frighten some viewers, that will not let anyone walk over top of her including her boyfriend. The battle of wits that took place between Andersen and Fox moved this picture so well and made me look forward to the next scene waiting for the counteraction by the other party. Andersen was laugh out loud funny and Chestnutt was equally entertain playing the easily persuaded (by both Fox and Andersen) boyfriend.

Bottom line is a rating less than 5 is ridiculous. I'm just glad I got to enjoy it (twice) and I plan on recommending it to many more of my friends.

I have a question....e-mail me please
23 January 2002
Warning: Spoilers
After viewing A Beautiful Mind and discussing it with others there is one part of the plot that confusses me.

***SPOILERS********

During the scene where Nash drops one of the envelopes off and is picked up by Ed Harris because they are being followed I am confussed as to the actual events that occured. It seems to me that every time Nash thought he was doing something for Harris he actually did it but the scenery in which he was doing it was different or the people he was interacting with weren't there (empty warehouses, talking to noone). In the car chase scene can anyone explain to me what really occured. The only thing that I can imagine is that he imagined the whole thing which isn't really inline with the rest of the movie. I don't think he drove a car there so it wasn't as if he was driving. I really didn't understand this part of the movie and if anyone has an idea of what I'm missing I'd appreciate an e-mail.

Thanks

Mystery Men (1999)
One of my favorite comedies
22 July 2001
So much of the comedy in this movie was missed. Such humour in subtle lines and scenes. If you missed them I urge you to watch it again and this time PAY ATTENTION.

The scene in the diner after their first battle is laugh out loud funny. In this scene The Shoveler blames The Blue Raja for sticking him with a fork and questions why he never uses a knife...he answers in a sarcastic tone "Why don't you ever use a rake?". This is the kind of humor that I think is missed....Mr. Furious in a fit of rage refers to the Sphinx as "Captain Conundrum" and the William H. Macy has to many funny lines and scenes to get into :

"God gave me a gift...I shovel well...I shovel very well".

So much humour and so few people to get it...watch it again PLEASE.

Scary Movie 2 (2001)
This movie sucks.

i am not a hoity-toity critic, I am an immature man who enjoys brainless comedy. Yes, it is brainless, but it is just plain not funny. It was embarrassingly bad. I have nothing else to add, but I need a fourth line. Go rent "So I Married an Axe-Murderer" instead.

Bio-Dome (1996)
What's not to Like
8 June 2001
I've seen this movie many times and every time i find something else to laugh at. It is histarical. Some of the subtle comedy throughout is missed and that is why it is important to watch it a few times. I'm actually going out to rent "Blue Velvet" tonight to further understand some of the content.

I'm happy to admit: I think Pauly Shore is a genius!

Hamlet (2000)
3/10
Thank God I'm not alone
25 May 2001
As I shut this movie off half way through I had a feeling that perhaps Shakespeare was a bit over my head and I was missing something that others would have gotten. I guess my feelings mirrored many others as I read through the user comments.

This movie was horrible. The entire tone of the movie is a depress fest and all of the comic relief scenes which are vital to the original work are omitted. I was expecting to see a Hamlet who was "mad" in the crazy sense of the word much like portrayed by Mel Gibson. Unless I missed it during my intermittent naps during the first part of the film I don't even think Hamlet talked about putting on a mask as to appear mad to the others like he does in the original work. Instead he is just a depressed, whining, toque wearing movie junkie that is a complete bore.

Liev Schieber in his limited time on screen was dynamite and I was hoping to see that kind of fire out of Hamlet instead of the hum drum attitude that he possessed in the time I wasted on this film.

To give you an idea of how bad this film was....I actually said to myself less then half way through: "Turn it off, this is painful to watch" and 30 minutes later that's just what I did. A total bore.

Tigerland (2000)
Something Missing
24 May 2001
I was looking forward to seeing "Tigerland" because it was a smaller film that I had heard very good things about and though I enjoyed the way the film was shot and appreciated the performances delivered by many of the characters I thought that it totally misfired on the emotional level.

There was no feel to the characters and no development of them along the way. Maybe I am looking for a cliche "brotherhood" between guys in the army that was too subtle for me to detect but Boz's unchanging attitude throughout the entire movie began to irritate me. Every character seemed the same as the opening few scenes. It seems that once placed in a situation that intense that some character changes would occur in the people involved.

The other question that puzzled me was if it was so easy for Boz to be a savior for the others involved then why was he still there? It seems to me as someone said earlier that this was a Cool Hand Luke meets Full Metal Jacket hybrid but in Cool Hand the character had some sort of dignity and respect for himself and the others around him...in Tigerland he was just a jerk.

These issues perplex me so much that I wouldn't mind someone dropping me an e-mail if they can explain them to me.

Smoke and Mirrors
23 May 2001
Okay...when you do drugs things move faster. Does this have to be drilled into our heads for the entire length of the film. I found it got to be annoying after awhile. I thought a lot of the movie was cliche covered up by a lot of loud music and flashy camera work.

Best film of the year....I think not...Traffic delivered a similar story of drug addicition but let the actors tell the story and not the man behind the camera. Everytime the girl in Traffic did a hit the same four frames weren't played, backed by the same loud music and some choppy and distorted camera angles.

In my opinion...sometimes less is more.

(Don't get me wrong..I enjoyed the film but it was a bit overdone)
