Genghis Blues (1999)
Paul Shines
I have known Paul Pena to be a great songwriter and musician for many years. Paul, his wife "Babe" (Debby) and I shared a flat in San Francisco. After Babes passing in 1991, Paul really got into the sound of Tuva and all it held. He went on to learn the tones of the Digereedoo,(sp). The last time I saw Paul on stage was at the Roseland in Portland when he was on the road with Rat Dog. He played the "dige" and performed the art of Tuvan throatsinging at the sametime. It was a great day in April for all. All the best, JAR
Inside Moves (1980)
Survival of the troubled
At the time when this film was produced, a movie of this type was not well accepted. Who wants to watch sorry people? But,John takes this roll and you become the observer of a wonderful transition and the the people that make it happen. A film that you want good things to happen and they do. Well worth seeing. JAR
Dance of the Vampires (1967)
A Great piece
Polanski does his best in this "tounge in cheek" horror flic.He plays an inept assistant, and it is alot of laughs, even when it gets scarry. From the opening with the surface of the moon you know it's a job well done.Another film that is underrated and not well known,I hope it comes out on DVD.I first saw this film when I was in high school and make a point to see it on a real movie screen, it never fails to amuse and amaze me.
The Last Waltz (1978)
The Best!
This is the world of music live on stage! Nothing tops this and it has everything to offer.Joni Mitchell is an angel. In some editions of this film,Neil Young has a huge chunk of a white substance in his left nostril, after a few copies got on screen the "beak" was deleted. All in all this film kicks the crap out of "Woodstock".
Pay It Forward (2000)
A great "small" film
I went to a discount screen house, knowing zero about this flick.I was very impressed.I am sorry that the general public can't embrace a film of this quality. It was a great cast, and story that held up well.At some points I must admit the film was somewhat "disjointed",but at the same time a good production. Let's face it,alot more moving than "Rambo",etc...
