Ted: Loud Night (2024)
Season 1, Episode 6

The writers need to research the 90's better
26 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I like the show overall, but the writers seem to occasionally forget when the show is taking place. Blaire often uses her "college wisdom" to be the moral compass and make comments or take a stance on things that people generally weren't doing then. This episode was bad because it centered the whole episode around that.

Blaire is dating an Indian woman. First, they barely touch on her race. I feel like that is something that would have been brought up in the 90's. Second, Blaire explains what being gender fluid is. I don't think that was around then, especially at the mainstream level it is today. Third, she makes the entire Catholic family feel bad for not accepting her. They just changed their entire worldview because a college girl called them Hitler. Most of the country was against it. Republicans and Democrats agreed. Clinton even signed a law protecting heterosexual marriage.

Having said that, if you can get past the inaccuracy and the preachiness, it does have some funny moments and a clever twist.

Good despite virtue signaling
1 November 2023
It definitely would have been better sans virtue signaling. We get it. It was a different time and place. Had people know it was offensive, they wouldn't have done or said the things they did. This movie relied on that way too many times. They could have used it to make a joke and instead came off preachy.

Having said that, the acting was decent and it had enough funny lines. I loved all the Easter eggs. It made for some funny and clever moments. I could have used more Randal Park though. His character was great and had a lot of potential. Julie Bowen could have also used more screen time. I enjoyed it overall and may watch it again.

Barbie (I) (2023)

So much potential
29 July 2023
I wanted to see this movie since the set pictures got leaked. Once they released the trailer and the clips, it was one of the most anticipated movies of the year for me.

It started off great. It was hilarious. Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling were amazing. Then the actual comedy stopped. Jokes fell flat. The "Barbie world" they set up then just ignored the toy universe they spent 20 minutes setting up to put forth terrible gags and a preachy message that made no sense. For instance, Barbie could only bend certain ways in the beginning, then she can bend her body like a normal human, then she can't again for one joke, then she can again. It was awful.

Normally, Will Ferrell is at least a little bit humorous. Even he was dry. The best part was a fake commercial halfway through it. I've wanted to get up and walk out so bad. I felt like it was also geared towards everyone in the beginning, and then adults in the last 75 minutes. It became too dramatic and preachy.

The Lego movie managed to be geared toward the family and still gave a good message in the last few minutes. That should have been the route this took.

Worst CGI since Scorpion King
16 June 2023
I don't normally leave reviews, but the CGI was comically bad. Maybe it was the IMAX screen but it makes Superman's upper lip like artwork. Between the baby scene, the surprising cameos and two Barry's (when not in bright light), the CGI was plain awful. The 'member berries are what made this movie. Had it not been the nostalgic cameos, this movie would have sucked.

Having said that, Michael Keaton and Supergirl stole the show (in my opinion). I would watch any DC movie if it had them in. I really hope these comic book movies can figure out the cgi issue. It's been abysmal as of late. If you can get past Ezra Miller being annoying and the terrible effects, it's not bad.

Lazy writing
20 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Normally, their writing is brilliant and original. They take current events and out spin on it. They are often political and that's not the issue. The difference in this episode in this episode is that they are way too blatant with their references. They literally took the most iconic moments of 2020 and wrote themselves into the situation. The Danny DeVito/Giuliani but did make me smile. But the rest were either not funny or way too obvious. I did laugh at the last two minutes when they literally used the Forrest Gump/green screen stuff after referencing Forest Gump. Keep up the political satire but be original and funny with it.

Van Wilder (2002)

If you liked American Pie then you'll love this hilarious comedy.
13 June 2002
When I first saw the preview for Van Wilder, I was a little hesitant. I mean they've made a ton of National Lampoon's movies and the only ones that were good featured Chevy Chase. But since I got into the movie for free, I thought I'd see it anyways. It turned out to be one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. I know Tara Reid can't act, but Ryan Reynolds did an amazing job of bringing this character to life. It's definitely going to be on my To Buy List. Go spend the few $ to see it. You'll love it. Write that down.

Almost Heroes (1998)

One of Chris Farley's best pictures.
7 May 2002
After I got done watching Almost Heroes I immediately rewound the tape saw it again. It is one of the funniest movies ever created. If Chris Farley isn't a good enough reason to watch it, Matthew Perry should be. Both men do an incredible job acting dumb and yet civalized. If you ever get in a bad mood, I guarantee this will cheer you up as you roll on the floor with laughter.

If you loved Tommy Boy you'll love this!
7 May 2002
This is about a younger brother who tries to help his older brother become governor of Washington. This movie is packed with so many one liners you'll want to watch every single one of Chris Farley's movies. Chris is the king of comedy and he proves it here in this outrageous comedy.
