The Good German (2006)
Great book, horrible movie
The same old story where the book is terrific and Hollywood's version can't do it justice. They altered the story and did away with characters that were critical to the plot. George Clooney was unconvincing in the lead role and should stick with TV or "O Brother Where Art Thou?" type of roles. He is not a heavy weight enough actor to pull off this role. I tried not to get excited about this film fearing it would not come close to the book. A little pessimism goes a long way. As it turns out this film did not even come close to building the suspense generated by the book.
Read the book and file the film under "F" for forgettable.
Creature from Black Lake (1976)
Childhood Memory
I know, I know. This is an extremely dated, average, run of the mill, low budget, cheesy seventies B class horror movie. However, I saw this film in the theater when I was ten years old and it scared the hell out of me. The creature depicted in the movie kept my brother and I out of the woods for an entire summer. We were convinced that the existence of Sasquatch type creatures was entirely possible and that sudden violent death awaited anyone unfortunate enough to have a close encounter with one of these bad tempered beasts. For nostalgic reasons alone this is still one of my favorite B class horror movies, but don't go out of your way to find it.
Apocalypse Now (1979)
Visually Spectacular
The cinematography and soundtrack makes Apocalypse Now one of the most spectacular war movies ever made. The helicopter assault sequence is masterfully choreographed and is one of the most dramatic combat sequences ever filmed. Visually Stunning!
