Masz na imie Justine (2005)
It's a great film, and an unforgettable experience
The film has many messages to convey. Besides that, it stretches the viewer's ability to empathize with the central character. It tests the viewer's sense of humanity, sense of justice, and his/her levels of tolerance. The viewer is tortured, is made to think beyond his comfortable life, his family, his friends etc. and is forced to think and feel for girls like 'Justine', girls who are forced to forego their self-identities to live under the identity of 'Justine'. Justine symbolizes the millions of innocent girls born free, born to live normal lives but are kidnapped, trafficked, blackmailed and forced into prostitution. Such girls gradually lose the sense of self, lose the sense of identity, sense of being human and begin to believe that they deserve it, that this is what their destiny is, this is what they are made of. How is it justified? Why should such a thing happen to anyone? Is there an escape? Where is hope? Who am I? What am I? If I escape, who will I be? Though the film may not offer answers to these questions, but through the character of Pauline it raises these questions in an effectual manner in the viewer's hearts, making 'Your Name Is Justine' an unforgettable experience.
Housefull (2010)
It is not even original...rip-off from a Tamil flick
Yet another awful shot at comedy (and film-making as such), this fresh debacle of a film which ironically goes by the name of 'Housefull', mirrors Sajid Khan's popular trait- his condescending attitude - his level of expectation of the audience's IQ, or a more probable alternative if you ask me - it mirrors his own IQ. And what more, it is not even an original script. Yes, the movie is so bad that it is expected to be based on an original script written by Sajid Khan himself. The end product is Sajid's but there is an original version of it, which is a million-fold better than what Sajid Khan made it out to be. The basic plot or script that provided the groundwork for this atrocious film is sneakily ripped off without being given any credit, or even a single remote reference, from the Tamil movie 'Kaathala Kaathala (1998)' written by Kamal Hassan and Crazy Mohan. Kaathala Kaathala, a brilliant comedy with a fresh original script, is known for its high-witted one-liners and humorous wordplay, and is loosely based on William Shakespeare's 'A Comedy of Errors'. Sneaky player Sajid lifted the script, as usual, with a clever choice this time, but lacking the intelligence to deliver the goods as they are or the skill to adapt it to his own style (if he has any), he botched up the plot, twisted the characters to suit his poor perception of the Hindi audiences' sensibilities, entirely peeled off the Tamil-language humor written into the script, characterization, dialogues etc. and in the end dished out a horribly mauled, indiscreetly dumbed-down version of the sharp-witted original. "Sajid Khan is only as good as Farah Khan. The difference is, he doesn't get to loan some sense from Shahrukh Khan because Farah is busy using it to shine through. The truth about Farah's sense of film-making will be out with her first attempt at the same without Mr. Khan in the lead or anywhere behind the scenes", said a wise old philosopher ages ago. We now realize that the ostensibly lame Tees Maar Khan was made by the universe to serve that higher purpose - Truth.
While She Was Out (2008)
A strong statement on domestic violence
While there are many who look upon the movie as a hackneyed thriller with a poor ending, I see it as a strong statement on domestic violence, specifically, Intimate Partner Violence (IPV). The flick is rife with symbolism but I think that the most emphasized one is the parallel drawn between the meaningless violence Della (the central character) is subjected to by some mindless, psychopathic, freakish strangers on the streets while she was out and the meaningless abuse that Della's own husband subjects her to while she is at home. The few hours that she is out fighting against the freaks to save her life, to get back to her home, help build up the attitude in her to not submit to a similar situation at home. And, we see that in the end, Della brings her life back into her control, by putting an end to the criminals...both outside her home and inside. So, I liked the script for this symbolism. Kim Basinger's performance is awesome as usual.
Manmadhan (2004)
tamil film-making style
manmadhan is a must-watch flick for all movie-lovers,youngsters and particularly the NEW GENERATION GIRLS.the theme of the movie was very apt to modern times and the taking of the film was good.specifically the screenplay of the movie was too good, very appreciative on simbhu's part.in other movies they really do not show to the viewers,on the screen, something which turns out to be......-i just don't wanna reveal.simbhu is too young to make someone like me to expect such amazing work from him.becoz i always thought simbhu lacks smart looks.but only after watching manmadhan did i realise that for an actor -his/her looks count nothing at all-all that matters is the FINE SKILL OF ACTING that lies within him/her.simbhu's performance as a "pretending to be a psycho" in the beginning of the movie was really cool.Oh no...!!!!!!i just forgot to mention about sindhu tolani who played the sweet, cute but.......in this flick.her performance was just beyond accolades and appreciation acc. to me.all the hot models in the movie-who played the MODERN GIRLS-added a bit more charm to manmadhan.finally jo(jyotika) was nice and good as usual.this movie once again makes all south indians spellbound by the genius of tamil film-making.
Rang De Basanti (2006)
siddharth stole the show
the scenes edited out have made the movie irrelevant to some extent. sid did good job. for u guys who think that this is sid's 1st:
1)sid worked as mani ratnam sir's assistant director before venturing into acting 2)and that too inspite of graduating from a business school (mumbai) 3)he rejected at least 20 job offers because his only passion was films 4)his earlier films were BOYS,AAYITHE EZHUTHU,NUVVOSTHANANTE NENODDANTANA,CHUKKALO CHANDRUDU(for which he did story writing besides acting in the lead role) 5)apparently sid played A FUN LOVING SPOILT BRAT IN THOSE,which is an absolute contrast to KARAN in RDB. 6)RDB SHOWS JUST ANOTHER HUE OF SID'S SKILL. nonetheless RDB(cast and crew) was "THE BEST"
