Death Camp (2022)
Produced during the Covid pandemic
Made in the challenging conditions of the Covid pandemic, "Death Camp" is a low budget horror film revolving around demonic possession. The young actors are talented, the scenes with the villain (Norman) are good. (The atmosphere in the dark room is very well done, grim and creepy, more than the various characters death scenes which is certainly due to the fact that what we don't show but suggest through tense dialogue is more frightening. )The difficult conditions of the shooting which had to be stopped then resumed are undoubtedly the cause of the flaws in the film. It's important that people know that producing and directing an independent film often is an uphill battle and we must recognize the efforts put into the feature film by the director, the screenwriter and the actors all united to finish the project. A team effort that deserves respect.
Clean (2021)
Exploration of a tortured mind
A beautiful film, produced co-written and scored by Adrien Brody who's also playing the lead, needless to
say that as always his acting is intense, brilliant.
Clean is above all an exploration of a man's tortured mind, a man who feels responsible for his daughter's death and who has to live with that thought every day, trying to find redemption and an escape in the very lonely life he's leading, a life where he doesn't really get close to the beings he's looking after: A little girl, her grandmother and a dog and doing a job (trashman) that allows him to go unnoticed... Until a mobster who controls the neighborhood threatens the little girl- who reminds Clean so much of his daughter- and the grandmother...
Then the ruthless killer he really is resurfaces, then Clean can find redemption by eliminating the gangster and his men, cleaning up his neighborhood of the people who remind him so much of his painful past as a thug, and saving the little girl and her grandmother. ...The film ends on this question: There are indeed angels and it's hard to know who's saving who...I would say they save each other. Nice reflection and very nice film.
The film didn't have to be fast-paced, as a story of redemption and exploration of a tortured mind the atmosphere of the film had to be slow, and as world-wearing as its lead, as we are watching the world through his eyes...
