A Christmas Story Christmas (2022)
Cash-in on Nostalgia
Billingsley perhaps too-accurately portrays Ralphie as being the extremely unlikable person he is. He is a walking cliche of the hopeless writer desperate to get published, disconnected from everyone around him, constantly narrating his own life in a really inexplicably narcissistic way. Its a wonder he didn't walk up onto a local community theater stage and start lecturing about how awful his life is. The flick cashes in on callback references to the most memorable scenes from the first movie (even clipping some), but has virtually no memorable scenes of its own. It's a dud; if you watch it, only do so to commiserate with others about how disappointing it is.
Ramy (2019)
Thought-provoking and insightful identity-driven comedy
I can't speak to the authenticity of the show, as I do not come from this background. The show offers a platform for an under-represented wedge of our melting pot, which I think is important. That platform is used to great effect. The writing is witty and insightful. The characters are likable and interesting with enough depth to keep you interested. I really believe this to be a must-watch.
