Poor Things (2023)
Very artistic, different... But dont watch with your date.
Really liked it, until it became a weird shock porn and dark reality movie.. Was hard to judge if i give 7 or 8
Dont get me wrong, it WAS GREAT and even amazing for the first half, its weirdness was super interesting and a never before seen concept which we both enjoyed watching ALOT.
The plot surprise was unexpected and great too... But the end-half was not ideal to us.
We had a date-weekend watching 3 movies, both previous movies we talked ALOT during them, focused more on each-other than the movies, but this one was so interesting that we watched mostly in silence, only breaking it with short laughs, and "haha wtf" "wow" "NICE" "what is that?!" reaction moments.
But then the movie turned into this dark reality side, personally i never enjoy movies that bring thoughts towards dark subjects, and it put both of our brains into a deep processing mode, that we couldnt speak much or think clear after it anymore, just thinking about what we just saw since the movie got so unhappy and rough towards the end.
Not even the end scenes changed our mood.
Would had rated this higher, but personally, feel like a interesting, different, fun movies was ruined with negative shock and sadness. Did not expect it at all from the trailer.
Murder at Yellowstone City (2022)
Great, until it wasnt.
The script was all of the place at some parts, but at other parts it felt well written, and well done, you also couldnt expect most of the outcomes, and thats great, and i liked it... Until its writing turned stupid, and logic details started to bothered me in the plot.
Ending could had been done way more wisely instead of turning it into an "dont care action western", what it didnt feel like at all from the start, and i hated that aspect.
On some scenes the side actors were a bit robotic.
Recently i have been watching alot of older movies, now when i return to the modern ones
i notice one thing i dislike alot is that some
extra actors dont feel like they matter, at all, theyre just robots in a way. Following what their task is in the scene. Rarely got that feeling while watching an older movie.
So overall, great acting from most, but some stuff failed, so cant rate this high, just average 5/10.
The Last Son (2021)
Not the worst but could had been better, heres why...
Dont get me wrong, it is an unique movie, this is what i like to see, i dont know another movie with a storyline like this, and because of that, i dont understand the low rating, it was captivating, and keeps you interested to watch how the story goes, atleast from the beginning.
But... In the end i liked the feeling of the first half more than the rest of the movie which was more like a boring action packed western i have seen so many times before. Some scenes could had been cut a bit more too.
I counted 6 logic issues on some scenes.
But i REALLY liked the realistic blood which gave some extra immersion, i cared fast about most of the characters, so well done with the acting and character creation on that side.
Then again there was a problem with the main character though...
I think it would had been much better to have a more unstable or deranged feeling main character FROM THE START, just like the twin brother.
It felt more like the main character was the brother and not the guy we got introduced to from the start.
Would had felt more fitting for the characters kinslaying past that should bother him or made him show some psychopathy personality like the twin brother shows.
So thats why, i give this a 6-7/10 - Not the worst, not the best, but it definitely had the capability to be better.
Hell or High Water (2016)
Wow, Well-done, unlike the T-Bonesteaks.
Very unexpected immersive wild ride this was.
Its not a masterpiece with an innovative never before seen script, but for a classic bandit cop chase movie with some wild west spice vibe, its a solid one for sure!
Great job from the actors, extras, and director to make it feel realistic and immersive!
Interesting and easy to watch right till the end, in no point did i get bored even though the movie was calm at points and i usually tend to struggle keeping attention for long time on calm scenes. Did not happen with this one!
Shows some realistic..ish violence, ofc bit toned down brutality, to not shock completely the audience when a someone gets shot in the face, but still that violence side was immersive enough. Which i like to see since it deepens the realism feeling on the movie and gives a slight shock effect.
Love it when the world feels like anybody could die! Nobody's safe!
Hate it when they make characters feel invincible in some other movies..
Anyways, watch this if u feel like seeing a good robber chase movie that makes u think but not too much! :)
Pacific Rim (2013)
Power rangers on crack (cracks in plot and logic too)
Yah! Amazing show of visual effects and editing artistry, and cool booklike story, and i wish i saw this in the movies with better sound "oomph" effects, with also better picture quality, but still... The plot has plenty holes and logic faults, even in the jaeger designs which i didnt like.
This could had been a great 9/10 movie, but the storypath and plot thinking failed a lot.
Personally i feel this would had been much better if Makos childhood story was introduced straight in the beginning. And then the brothers.
Also most of the kaijus have been closed combat creatures able to swim well... So why werent ALL jaeger designs made to have mostly underwater fighting design? And also barely any of them have melee combat advantage, only the chinese brothers jaeger had the circular saws and the older unit swords but...
Theres SO MANY strong closed combat weapons in our history that could had been used on the jaegers design or copied our planets animals weaponry to use on the robots melee weaponry. And clearly kaijus could had been all killed essily at their entrance hole just by using nukes underwater nukes?
Imagination should had been used more freely in this world where apparently resources to build these robots and giant walls is not very demanding.
Oh and what bothered me most in the dna reading ending, was that wasnt it supposed to be reading every pass through the "gate"?
Just alot of logic faults.
Mystic River (2003)
Not the best directing from Eastwood or writing for this movie...
Not sure who to really blame for this, and why so many who watched and reviewed this are praising the movie when theres so much wrong in it.
Also, so many Oscar nominations for this movie? Im sorry but what the fk? Were the critics short of movies to nominate or what?
This movie was just a rollercoaster bad care in detail.
At some point im interested, other points i lose interest and think about switching movie. Simply just because of bad/unrealistic acting that SHOULD had been redone on some scenes AND too many unnecessary scenes that should had been just cut out.
(IM NOT SAYING ALL ACTING OR SCENES WERE BAD, but SOME.)
Now why bad detail?
Well the boys in the beginning... They barely resemble the actors later in the movie, which gave me a hard time figuring out whos who as an adult. ALSO... One of the boys is a ginger or blonde irish kid, but suddenly as the guys are adult... All are brunettes and magically the irish kid is now an Italian heritage guy i guess?
The movie was confusing overall, mostly about the character
past/present connections, hard to recognize who is who from kid to adult.
Yah you will figure it out later, but at many times i was confused about the scenes because of the lack of backstory.
Because of this lack, at many points i got confused about how does
this character know the main character? Whats these peoples past? Should i care about this character? "Oh how did they notice that?" "it wasnt shown clearly in the scene! I didnt see them even look."
On many points the movie just feels like a movie, that the people
in it are just acting, they dont care enough, or do great work on acting. And this because there is sooo many actors/extras in the movie, and some of them didnt do the best work in their scenes.
Just doesnt immerse me into caring about the plot/world much at points.
Its one of those movies that gets your interest at some points, but other points youre just bored and feeling like u want to skip ahead.
If this movie was cut better and acting done again on some scenes...
This would had been so much better and possibly a great movie,
the ending parts of the movie though were done good once the plot gets clearer.
First Reformed (2017)
Disappointment
Well, the ending left me unsatisfied, i was waiting for a revelation of somekind...
That the priest would do something amazing or highly teaching towards the environmentally ignorant company people. Walk through the church while bleeding like Jesus, shocking them while giving a highly teaching speech and ignoring everyone trying to reason or command him to stop.
But instead he was just a regular man, who couldnt handle or invent a way to show. Just being disappointing and a "regular Joe" .
The movie has a strong backstory and message is clear, but there was no solutions, idealism, or imagination and overcoming the obstacle. It wasnt motivational or solving the problem for the viewer, like other great movies have been.
I hate seeing something regular and just leaving the problem be as it is cause youre afraid and dont know a solution.
Long build-up to trust and believe the character only to be left with nothing.
Just gave the feeling of "nothing will change even if i want to." just sad, depressing and unmotivating.
(The acting, directing and character interest though gave this rating from me.)
Landscape with Invisible Hand (2023)
A subject that deeply touches you, if you have the ability to think deep
Brilliant, and most who watch this will most likely not understand its message, it will cause anger, boredom and confusion i bet too if u dont understand it.
The movie had an deep and intriguing concept overall, i have watched so far 665 movies, and have to say this ones original too.
The movie addresses the reality of what life is like for the race that is not the dominant one,
which we have also had to see through our own human history in a form of race discrimination.
This is pretty much an Alien story mirrored view of American history.
Just the same way Europeans came to America, Removed the traditions, culture. The movie even quickly tells about the subject of changing the less dominant races expressive passive aggressive but realistic art to be more kind and less truth expressive.
The movie can piss you off so its pretty ironic to understand we have done exactly the same to other human races.
The movie captures it also very well how a better wealthier dominant race, can offer shtty or even degrading jobs to the lower race, with an suprisingly high reward/salary, for which ofc the lower status race is happy to do.
(we really should fix this in our modern societies... Some countries still do this to immigrants. NO EQUALITY BETWEEN RACES.)
Ofc theres also the basic arrogance from the American people in the story, which did not surprise me, but what surprised me
was how in one scene the alien did not do the thing which dominant race usually does when getting disrespected... Or atleast what an disrespected dominant human would do: Destroy the rebellion/resistance. Somehow the whole ordeal was just ignored and forgotten.
There was also no fighting or war between the humans and aliens, which also is not very accurate thinking humans react
naturally with violence when under fear or threat.
But im sure the Natives of Americans felt just the same
about these more advanced invaders coming into their land to take it over, cant do nothing else than to bow and kneel.
Also shows the subject of greed and ignorance in humans. Deep subjects in this movie, thats why i rated it so high, gave me good thoughts and the subject is something we should all reflect on.
The acting also works, the actors feel natural and the movie is immersive too.
Fled (1996)
Watch while drunk when u dont care or notice much.
Title is how i honestly feel about this movie, now dont get me wrong, its not awful, the actors did great, specially Will Patton, he took the character clearly seriously and i liked his character. The extras also did good, despite they had to act like NPCs, clear side characters and not real reacting people.
But this can be blamed on the directing side... Jeesuss how bad.
Now im not sure if Kevin Hooks got full control on the directing or not, i know he can do better, but if he really had free reign... Wow this was bad. I really hope we can blame the lacking direction on Mr. Collipark being strict or something as the producer. The movie just turned out bland.
It felt so stupid, at many points, it felt SO CLEARLY that its JUST a movie, the story was not captivating or immersive like so many other movies i have seen.
Sure, good action, but in the end i just feel bad for the actors that their time was wasted on this. This just turned out to be a drunk evening movie to watch.
The Return of the Living Dead (1985)
Zombies on 300% difficulty... And crack.
Theyre faster, more clever, and psychopathic than the many other zombies i have seen in other movies or series.
Very innovative view on zombies, even makes u sympathetic on their pain and suffering at points hah. They cant die, they just want to eat ur brains to ease their suffering.
Its also cool to see some 80s punk kids on how they acted and were back then, the time period i didnt experience.
Overall very innovative way to show zombies, different and enjoyable, other zombie movies should learn from this one, that the zombies dont always need to be the same slow and dumb creatures, be creative!
The Internship (2013)
Touched me on a personal level
Just like these main characters, i too have been struggling with finding a suiting job for me through many talented others. So this movie really cheered me up, gave me some hope and motivation back, made me stop and think, even gave me a product idea!
So thats, why i really enjoyed this movie. Best movies for me are the ones that make me think, touch my heart, and tell a captivating story.
I cant give this a 10/10 or 9/10, cause it wasnt a masterpiece of a genre, imaginative or anything specially new to experience. But still, better than average 5/10, good 6/10, or enjoyable 7/10 movie.
Working story-line and acting overall, great work from director and the rest of the crew! I was immersed in the characters life, and interested in how the story will play out. So... 8/10 :)
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)
Not a bad movie but not great either. 6,9/10
Interesting storyline, creatures, acting. Great work with locations, props, outfits. Great work also on visual & sound effects.
But music, it did not work... And music honestly is VERY important in scenes to make the right atmosphere feeling. At some points, mostly in the action scenes, the music did not hit the mark at all to create the desired effect while watching, at many times the music was too calm and unprepossessing. Took away the hype from the action, at least to me personally.
The atmosphere overall was great in the movie when there was little or no music, at times fun to watch, but somehow the script felt... Missing, or partly empty, specially in the end fight, it felt rushed and unimportant despite the strongest wizards colliding, it was just fast and unfulfilling.
Something with the script could had been done better.
Script also felt a bit recycled from the previous movie, made it feel already seen.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)
Very good, must watch it in a movie theater though.
Or with high resolution and sounds quality if u watch it home.
Alot of this movies scenes were just simply amazing looking and feeling because of the sharpness and sound quality the movie theater brought it, i can easily imagine the movie not being that special with a lower quality.
Even 1080p might not cut it if u watch it at home, but if u get a chance to watch it in higher quality with a bass rich home theater or headphones, then i really recommend it. But in lower quality, forget it, you wont get the same experience out of this movie.
The scenery and camerawork was beautiful, whole cast really saw effort with this movie, actors also worked really well ofc.
Overall i really liked the movie, but i noticed some parts of the script ideas were re-used or loaned from the previous movies, again getting chased by mobsters, fighting nazis and having a kid play an important part in the movie. (Temple of Doom) I dont hate it, but its already done in the series.
With all of the content in the movie, it started to feel slightly too long towards the end. Some of the ending plot decisions i did not agree with, but hey, still a great story and impressive movie to watch!
Sinister (2012)
I liked it until...
Until it became an imaginary old demon whatever story, sure i like imaginary stories but the beginning of the movie had me so hooked into thinking:
"Oh my god the killer is still alive, and possibly watching this house and the new family that moved in, hes gonna kill this family too!" "Or maybe the father will save them all"
I was super intrigued to see how the story plays out, against an serial killer who hasnt been caught.
But then, it just turned into this imaginary bs fantasy fiction story with ghost children and old demon guy who gets his victims in the same house? First of all.. How would the demon have picked specifically originally THIS house? It definitely wasnt built during dark ages from which the demon originated from.
The whole plot-line was so stupid, the story did a whole 180 from an interesting uncaught serial killer to an old demon god creature. Its like they switched writer mid-way from a good horror writer to a more imaginative but beginner writer?
So thats why 5/10 , could had been better easily if they followed the original path how it felt.
Tank Girl (1995)
If u like borderlands and fallout games... Or u are a geek...
Then this is definitely for you, this movie will be a enjoyable watch to those who like these type of games, the movie feels like a mix of them.
Its a hidden gem with an average rating for no good reason. Easy to watch, engaging, yah some parts are a bit
unnecessary/brainless or could had been done different, but whatever, it was still a fun movie.
- ALOT of effort put into effects, clothing, acting, character design, sets and story.
- Funny comic book-like animation clips used in the movie, havent seen anything similiar before, very innovative and entertaining.
- The main villain could had been a bit smarter and less weak.
Overall great work still!
The Covenant (2023)
Teaches you about admirable values.
The movie started as a 6/10, slowly working up the rating for me... To 7... To 8 at the mid part... 9 closer to ending... And when it ended i was thinking... Do i give it a 9 or 10? And im strict with giving 10's for movies.
Once u watch past the slower "introduction" parts of the movie, it really captures your attention, keeps u interested and thinking. "How will they survive this??" "What would i do at this situation?" "This is intense".
And for these... I already gave the movie an 8,
then the movie started making me like the characters, i related to the American soldier, and respected the interpreter more and more. Both of these guys had qualities that i respect.
The ending of the movie was great, although a bit predictable, i wish they didnt give any clues about what would happen in the end. But still... A very good 9.4-9.6 rating movie, which ofc changes between 9 and 10 here.
Watch past the slow start and be surprised! :)
The Many Saints of Newark (2021)
I liked it until...
Until it just suddenly ended... Felt like this could had been a great movie if it went on longer, could had easily made it a 3-4 hour movie.
Easy to follow, great acting, good story-line, interesting overall, cool to see the interactions with their families, and the "regular" days and thinking of the mafia men.
But its like a campfire story where you dont get to hear how the story ends, just leaves u annoyed and looking for someone to tell u how the story ends.
Guess i have to watch the sopranos tv show now to know, i just would prefer to know it from a movie instead of adding ANOTHER long show series on my endless "to watch" series list.
Divergent (2014)
Cool and innovative, but poorly written and nothing different.
Yah, like said on title, this movie was cool, action scenes worked, story world was innovative, the clothing, factions, utopian way how people behaved, whole concept was interesting.. UNTIL it fell flat on the writing and/or directing.
Was really into the movie at the start, very intriqued, but sloowly it started to turn into an already seen type of imaginary sci-fi movie with a mix of American teenagers TV-series drama and love. Just annoying. Should had been strictly kept as how it was in the beginning, SERIOUS. (Like star-trek!)
Story world like this requires an serious execution, no lala-land love stories!
Venom (2018)
Mixed feelings
I want to give 10/10 for effects and editing people for this movie, actors did good too, and sound had nothing wrong either, but the whole story-telling/writing and logic for the movie was a clusterfck... Which really dropped my rating.
Ok i can explain why:
Stronger lifeform alien that is captured from an asteroid/meteor simply ignores the fact that it was captured for science, wants no revenge after it sees couple of pretty city lights and reads the memories of a "loser" humans lovelife and suddenly cares more of human feelings than its own revenge or just basic own instincts of survival? Why tf should it care that much?
Would u care about an aliens feelings or life if they kidnapped you for science and u escaped?
Why wont the higher lifeform alien just abuse the hosts and eat as much animals and humans as it wants and fight for rulership of the new planet away from the millions like yourself, youre clearly the strongest on this planet after killing the other parasite alien.
Just very stupidly written storyline, apparently Venom is just way more simple than humans and has the instincts of a predator fish with a mix of low IQ.
Oblivion (2013)
Story with a meaning...
If sci-fis close to your heart this is great for you, the story also has a hidden message:
Doesnt matter if u die, other version of you will just take your woman in the end 😂
Pokémon: Detective Pikachu (2019)
Nice movie that got me thinking.
It was a nice movie, not the greatest but i enjoyed the effects, graphical designs, and animations of the pokemons, the movie also got me into a good mood!
But it missed something in its plot?
Eli (2019)
Excellent plot!
GREAT plot, good job to the writer, also well executed movie too so thanks to the producer and all others who worked on the movie,
been a long time since i have seen a movie where evil and at the same time good? Wins in an un-expected way.
I usually dont give movies 9/10 or 10/10 unless they give me some deep feelings, chills or great joy. So 8/10 :)
Total Recall (1990)
Pretty good for so old movie.
Yah it has some flaws here and there but its still well written and acted, unlike many modern movies :D haha
Has some VERY graphic stuff in it but whatever. Old but gold.
Ad Astra (2019)
Very boring.
I had high expectations and was excited about the movie before seeing it, now that i saw it i got to say... Wow that was boring with no imagination at all, the story also was very bland.
Mortal Engines (2018)
Brilliant lads! 😁
Very good movie, i dont understand the low ratings, maybe most of them were british and they didnt like being the "bad guys"
Yeah the story could had needed a bit more polishing, but i still loved the great quality of how the movie was done and the story kept me interested till the end!
I Recommend if you like Sci-Fi Adventure movies.. :)
