A Film Everyone In Bollywood Should Watch
4 December 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't have any expectations going into the theater, but I couldn't believe how good this film is! It is raw and Vidya's mouth is like a loose cannon. As a viewer, the film just takes you on a roller coaster where no other Bollywood film has done in recent years. Even though they are talking about the 80's, the movie's message is still so relevant in Bollywood. The old/aging actor who still plays young roles, and whose mother is portrayed by an actress similar to his age! Vidya, Nasserudin, and Emraan embraced and embodies their characters. It seems they had so much fun with these solid written characters that it didn't even seem they were acting. Vidya's superb in this role and I think any other actress who perhaps was offered the role is hitting themselves in the head. The role was that of Marilyn Monroe and she just showed her vesatality as an actress. The film has good direction and great acting. Some really good memorable scenes include when Silk goes to the journalist's party and sits on her car outside the apartment to only have this mob of fans rooting her. I really didn't understand how Emraan's character starts liking Silk, but their chemistry and acting really sold their love story. The scene where he comes to her house and they are going through her pictures, was very heartfelt. The music in the background brought a tragic love story atmosphere to the movie just like of Mugal Azaam where this man just wants to save the tarnished girl from her misery. I think everyone should watch this film for the surperb acting.

A show that started well but went downhill.
26 May 2009
Warning: Spoilers
The only well-written and well acted characters were Brenda, Brandon, The Walsh Parents and Dylan. The character of Andrea was acted well, but her character went downhill once she entered college. Kelly, David, and Donna were by far the worst written, thought out and acted characters. The first and second season was crucial in understanding the theme of the show. Cheese-filled or "cheesy" episodes like Brandon taking over his father's little league and Brenda being caught shop lifting really defined this show's theme of how friends come and go but the bonds we create with our family members hold stronger to friendship. This was the theme that really helped the Walsh family survive in Beverly Hills!

I found myself fast forwarding the whole movie
13 March 2009
The last SRK movie I turned off before the ending was Don, which was just horrible. I just feel SRK could not get into this role or didn't even try to deliver a meaningful character. The movie was supposed to be about two childhood friends who are now in different places in life, but it was just poorly executed by the director. The songs were out of place in the movie. SRK just looked so old in this movie. The only movie I feel Priyadarshan made well was Virasat, but then again that had the better actors of Tabu and Anil Kapoor. Indian cinema is just making bad films after bad films. Delhi 6 was another horrible film and it is such a shame on the poor content of the films.

Doesn't live up to the hype
18 January 2009
I watched the film and the theater was packed with mostly Caucasians. I loved the little children and the music is superb. AR Rahman did a very good job in creating music that just jump starts the movie with "O Saya" and the children running down the alleys of the slums. But, the major problem in the movie is the list of negative events happening to the main characters. Their is NOTHING positive that comes across these children and no helping hand witch I feel shows Indian people to be non-charitable and not helping. I feel that yes it shows the dark sides of India but what about the positive things in India. The movie is very cliché and you know what is going to happen next. The grown actors don't have much dialogue compared to the children. Freida had barely 10 minutes in the film and her character was not well developed. I just feel that it did not show the helping side or heart of India.

Ghajini (2008)

Why was this movie made?
26 December 2008
I watched Ghajini expecting that it would be an awesome movie with a powerful message or even storyline. But it was a story that had many loose ends. Some of the angles were not believable towards the characters of the movie. The story has been done before, I believe Sunil Shetty and Karishma Kapoor did a similar movie where Karishma gets killed and Shetty is after the killer. I guess because this movie was so hyped and so the expectations are so high towards Amir Khan and his work, that if they aren't met the audience gets disappointed. But I don't understand why he made this movie. I felt the two leads didn't have chemistry and another actress closer to Amir's age should have played opposite him. I am just so tired of these older characters coming with actresses that aren't close to their age. I believe Fanaa was great only because of Kajol and Amir Khan. But back to the movie, at the beginning I felt I was watching a horror or slasher film, with all the elements of pictures that said "Done" and "Over", it was really comical at times when you see the immature handling of the situation of the main character. I never saw Memento but after watching this movie, I watched the Tamil version. And when I saw that the Hindi film is the EXACT copy of the Hindi version, I asked myself again why this movie was made. It is the same actors, except a hand few and Amir Khan. Therefore, Asin is no debuting actress, she is saying the same lines and acting the same way but just in Hindi! I feel that for Amir Khan to do a movie where the actors are playing the same role in another film is just absurd. Why couldn't they just dub the Tamil movie in Hindi? Life is Beautiful is a great film but they just dubbed the movie in English. As actors and actresses, why would you want to do the same movie twice. Even the director's reasons are questionable. The Tamil version, I felt was better and okay that it didn't really needed to be remade or retold. I feel the two leads in the Tamil film had chemistry. The Tamil film had a better camera work and more of a cinematic appeal. I liked the ending compared to the Hindi version where it just reminds me of "Titanic" and Amir is staring into space. It just shows that Bollywood is just into making remakes and copying other films from any direction. They just remake it in a more modern, commercial and mainstream way which requires the audience to not use their intelligence.

Saved by the Bell (1989–1992)

They don't make shows like this anymore.
20 January 2008
I loved this show when I was younger. Even though when I watched the show it was re-runs that came at 5 p.m. I remember watching it once and being hooked on it. I think Saved By the Bell is an American classic like I Love Lucy. By watching the show now, you just realize that we live in a different TV era now, where shows like these are just not produced by TV networks. I guess in 90's there was a popular theme to show innocence amongst teens. I never really liked Beverly Hills because I felt it was just about rich teens, but Saved By the Bell had a realistic element where it's just about young people living every day life in High School.

Om Shanti Om (2007)
You can't have it both ways
20 November 2007
Om Shanti Om is a film that sums up they type of movies out these days. The fact that the film has a very weak story and plot, but is highly glamorous shows that the industry has completely run out of stories and is just focusing on making their films look stylish and glamorous. You are told what to feel from the help of the songs that appear in the movie. It was said that the director watched 500 other movies when she made this film and it is very obvious. Well at least her camera wasn't shaking this time around. The film was all about Khan and to show is flexibility as an actor. I really didn't see the purpose of having the double role for the female actress, especially after seeing the ending. The ending was very predictable and obvious. I feel Karz is a better film than this! The movie works because it is about the industry and making movies like that is the only thing left for the "filmmakers" because they can't come up with any original stories.

great film
29 April 2007
I feel this movie is awesome. It had a very 60's Hollywood suspense theme. The background music helped create the mood of suspense while viewing Sunil Dutt's goal to sidetrack the police. The camera shots were awesome, especially when Sunil Dutt is in the hotel room and he has his hands on his face and the white lighting hits his face. The film had a great glamor to it with actors like Sunil Dutt and Raj Kumar. The main actress (Meena) was very elegant and high maintenance. Sunil Dutt did an awesome job in the film of being the lovable husband to the suspicion husband. It appears that he is already in the interrogation room of the police station. I wish they made Bollywood films like this today.

Omkara
31 July 2006
I just recently watched Omkara. I felt that the movie was hard to follow during the first half of the film due to the UP slang and I was completely reliant on the subtitles. The movie was very well directed however you really have to watch the movie very intently in order to grasp the plot. I felt that was the only flaw of the film. Saif Ali Khan's portrayal of Iago was outstanding. Konkanya brought light to the movie through her humorous dialog. Saif and Konkanya's performance shine in this film. I was disappointed with Ajay Devgan's performance. I have read Othello and I felt that Ajay Devgan didn't depict the character Othello properly. I felt that his portrayal of Othello was one dimensional and I didn't see the multi dimensional portrayal of Othello which is a crucial aspect of the character Othello. In Shakespeare's works, the characters tend to quite multi dimensional, and have layers of emotion which I didn't see in Ajay Devgan's performance. In Othello, Othello is torn between jealousy and his love for his wife Desdemona and I really did not see that portrayed in Ajay Devgan's performance.
