Miracle on the Mountain: The Kincaid Family Story (2000)
Good snowy weekend casual movie
I thought this was a good, casual, cold winter day movie to watch with the family, and for any age. True, there is no heavy plot, but nothing so graphic, violent or vulgar you have to be worried what might happen next. Which is nice for a change! And it was just suspenseful enough to hold your interest thru to the end. I recommend it for good, simple entertainment. Some of the acting was stiff, but that fit with the characters for the most part. William Devane and Patty Duke are always great, and can compensate for any younger, less experienced acting. By the end of the movie you really feel the agony of spending so much time in the freezing cold. Also made me think about how unprepared I would be under those circumstances.
The Last Voyage (1960)
Excellent old exciting classic example of samaritanism
I saw this movie by accident when I was a kid in the 60's. I couldn't remember the name for decades and just saw it again (2007) by accident! It's a great old exciting film mixed with some good samaritan acts and desperation to survive. Amazing to find that MGM actually bought a scrapped French liner to film realistic scenes! Holds your interest throughout. Tammy Marihugh, who plays the little girl Jill, does a great job and has heart wrenching screams. I can't find what happened to her after the 60's. If anyone knows please email me (if that's allowed - williamjdeal@yahoo.com). I recommend watching this on a lazy Saturday, snowy afternoon!
Love's Enduring Promise (2004)
A Wonderful Continuation!
When I first saw Love Comes Softly, I quickly ranked it high up on my mental list of favorite movies. I purposefully watch it whenever I see if listed, which now totals about 10 times. I just saw Love's Enduring Promise for the first time recently, and now have another movie to add to my list. This sequel did not let me down. Thankfully, the same Clark and Marty were cast for this movie, as well as Willie. I suppose it wasn't reasonable to cast the same Missie, due to her age. But January Jones' portrayal soon made me forget any disappointment I may have had. I realize these movies are carried on the Hallmark channel, which thankfully seems to have kept ethics and principals in tact, but I believe they could have been shown on any leading network and still would have drawn lots of viewers with positive feedback. I hope everyone of all ages takes the time to watch these movies. I found myself getting so absorbed in Enduring Promise, just as I did in Comes Softly, that I "became" a part of that time in my mind. What different times those were! I intend to watch them again and again!
The Big Valley (1965)
The Big Valley was a major part of my life!
My husband recently gave me the 1st season on DVD for my 50th birthday present. What a surprise and a treasure! I grew up on a small farm in Pennsylvania and The Big Valley came into my life around my 9th birthday. It never left me! I always loved horses but loving the show opened up a wholesome, healthy world of pretend and play. Our big old barn was transformed (in my mind) into the gorgeous Barkley home, and I usually played Nick on Coco. When I look back to how much time I spent playing with my horses, and bringing my friends and siblings into my Barkley world, I'm so thankful. I remember creating new story lines and acting them out. I often recruited other kids to be the rest of the Barkleys, and also Fred the Sheriff, Silas, and other neighbors. Those who wouldn't ride were usually Audra and Victoria. When some kids went on to become interested in not-so-safe ventures, I began writing screenplays and stories, some of which I used as reports for English Comp. class in High School. I have so many good memories of this wonderful show. I believe my own kids watch it out of kindness to me, but I know the underlying moral issues of the stories may take root in their minds too and someday they will appreciate it too. How thankful I am to everyone responsible for bringing this wonderful piece of my personal history to life, and a special thanks to Victoria, Jarod, Nick, Heath, and Audra. And thank you to so many folks, just like me, who take the time to write such positive messages about such wonderful entertainment, and to share your memories too.
Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey (1993)
Great entertainment!
A must see over and over for all ages. This is a seldom seen wholesome, entertaining and funny movie. It is worth watching several times to catch some humorous comments (by the animals) that were missed the first time. The human acting is good, and the acting by the animals is superb! There is an underlying subliminal message that is good for everyone. This movie is especially heartwarming to animal lovers but good entertainment for those that aren't. Also, this is a good opportunity to catch some beautiful scenery. Thanks to Disney Pictures and Buena Vista Productions for producing good movies that anyone can watch, yet still be entertained without resorting to reality TV!
King Arthur (2004)
Excellent story and action; great historical theme
I thought this was an excellent movie that held my interest throughout. It was filled with action and just enough romance to make the story believable, especially in an age of perpetual sorrow. I have seen King Arthur 5 times and realized that I missed so much the first time I watched it. Arthur and Lancelot are excellent; actually all of the knights were very wonderful to "get to know". Their personalities were so diverse. I thoroughly enjoyed watching such wonderful British and Welsh actors who, previously, were unknown. The movie peaked my interest and now I have been reading more about that historical era. I highly recommend viewing King Arthur more than once. It gets 4 stars from me!
