Better Call Saul (2015)
Overrated
I've watched all episodes and can't believe that I wasted so much time this way.
Better Call Saul only starts to become mildly interesting from season 4. Even then, it is hardly worth the wait. I was hoping to satisfy a craving for more "Breaking Bad", but this show is something else entirely. Namely the story of two lawyers, Kim and Jimmy, doing random self-destructing things that make absolutely no sense at all.
Unless you have an intense interest in understanding Saul Goodman's background, I recommend skipping this show. It might have worked had it been compressed into one or two seasons.
The Hunger Games (2012)
Sigh...
First, I haven't read the book. I was lured into watching the movie with little more information than the tag line and IMDb rating. This movie, while technically well executed, suffers from having a totally boring, predictable and unengaging plot. There's no doubt that I would have changed the channel had I not been stuck in the cinema.
This title may be popular with 13-year-old girls. If you don't belong to that group, there are better movies to spend your time on. If anything, it made me want to revisit The Truman Show - a decent "dome TV show" movie.
And I never did figure out why it's called "The Hunger Games".
Hard Candy (2005)
Pretty shitty movie
Everyone loves listening to a deeply annoying, precocious, know-it-all child, right? No? Me neither. Ellen Page does an excellent job of playing an annoying little brat, but that doesn't make this movie good. It makes it sort of - well- like listening to an annoying little brat for the duration of a whole movie.
If the girl really wanted to torture the poor bloke, all she had to do was play this movie to him.
While watching it, I thought to myself, "This script was probably written by some woman who was dumped by her man and then decided to make this movie about a guy being tortured to get back at the male gender." I was shocked to discover that this was actually written by a guy. What is his deal?
I give it 3 stars for at least being different. I just find the plot rather pointless.
Kærlighed ved første hik (1999)
Well-made youth movie
There are many youth films that fall into the bad to mediocre category. This one works well in that it has humor (such as the frequently occurring instances of Peter teasing Viktor, which work really well), and it has a very decent soundtrack. Some of the love scenes are cute and even over the top, but they work well, contributing to the feel-good atmosphere of the entire movie.
I would not recommend this to my parents or anyone else over 30. They might enjoy it, however, this is aimed at a younger audience. Anyone over 10 should have no problem watching this.
Despite the relatively predictable plot, in my book, 'Kærlighed ved første hik' has a solid spot as a classic in the Danish youth movies genre.
Requiem for a Dream (2000)
Not all it's hyped to be
I just watched this movie last night after reading all the great reviews on IMDb. I didn't think it was a very good movie in any way, not one I would bother mentioning to my friends.
The fast motion sequence is downright annoying and wrecking to the movie. The audio is awfully annoying - especially towards the end when I found myself having to turn off the stereo and watching the rest of the movie on the less dominating TV speakers. It had too much sex and nudity. I never came to identify with the characters and thus their fates at the end didn't touch me emotionally. The movie did manage to do one thing right: Illustrate how psychotic you can become even from popping pills subscribed by a doctor. The scenes with the exploding fridge are good. The acting performance of the mother-character is downright awesome. But the movie as a whole = big waste of 1 hour and 40 minutes.
