The Bronze Garden (2017– )

A great first season, A trashy 2nd season.
1 October 2022
The first season was amazing. The first 6 episodes were absolutely amazing. Thrilling, riveting, full of twists..they kept me hooked. Then the show went downhill in episode 7. It was unbelievable and comic, even caricaturish in many ways. However in last episode the ending was ok and overall it was a very enjoyable, surprisingly good first season. Now, apparently after the unexpected success of first season the makers wanted to cash in. And i believe thats how a 2nd season came into being as an afterthought. It was terrible. It was so bad that one cant imagine its the same show. A stupid plot line, no connection is established with any character, no continuity in story...it was deplorable. The 6 points I have given are due to first season only..otherwise the 2nd season on its own is no more than a 2.

It was slower than slow burn!
21 September 2022
While the concept was obviously brilliant as its based on a true story, the pace of this show was like tortoise full of alcohol, deciding to take it easy towards its destination. Melancholy music started every 5 minutes and viewers can only scratch their heads and wait for something to happen in the episode. Unnecessary personal lives of the detective and family as usual introduced to sensationalise the show, but actually it seemed completely misplaced. The investigation itself was very interesting and one can only appreciate the hard work of the police in Cracking this crime. Still the language can be hard for non Danish speakers and english dubbing was not available on Amazon. If only it had been a 4 episode series instead of 6, I would have rated it higher.

Better Call Saul (2015–2022)

Its not breaking bad!
19 August 2022
The biggest problem with this show was forced, boring storyline of lead character Saul. I know it sounds like sacrilege, as the show is about Saul! But thats the tragedy. Saul's story was boring, highly repetitive and for long parts almost unwatchable. I had to fast forward long parts of many episodes in many seasons to just bear with it. However the show would suddenly light up and become excellent when the breaking bad arch would come into play with gus fring, mike, Salamanca's etc. Then this show would show us what the makers are capable of. All in all it was a very patchy show, and not a patch on breaking bad, the mother ship. Still i give it a 7, because it was so so much better than the trash which is dished out nowadays. I think the secret to happiness is not to compare this with breaking bad, but then it isn't possible, is it?

It was very well made - but predictable.
10 August 2022
First of all it was a very well made, shot and acted tv series. The atmosphere was absolutely eerie and gave the feel of watching a thriller. Thats why the 7 stars. However my complaint is regarding the exact similarities with the original great shows like forbrydelsen and bron broen. The plot twists, the mid series diversion, the political angle, detectives personal life, politicians personal life...its all too predictable. I really hope that nordic noir breaks out of these cliches. The show was good, which I didn't expect actually. But in future I want something different. Let's hope.

Dark comedy, on this poignant topic?
8 August 2022
I think decline in Indian brain and cinema is permanent. I was shocked to see this atrocious movie. The wife gets beaten and then funny music starts! Is this the topic of making a so called dark comedy? And in this atrocious manner? With subtlety of a bulldozer? And the reason I watched is because of Vijay Verma. He is a fantastic talent. Alia Bhatt too I consider a very good actor. But what can they do? Actors are only as good as the script and direction. What an opportunity squandered having cast like Vijay Verma and Alia Bhatt. Deplorable.

A disappointing waste of time sleepfest.
31 July 2022
I have watched some excellent British tv shows over the years, to put it mildly this wasn't one of them. It was what I call a 'nothing show' because nothing happened! It was boring as hell and made me want to tear my hair out due to monotony! Around the same time this terrible sleeping pill was made, another series by the name of 'winds of war' was also aired in USA. It was a masterpiece! They captured personal story arcs amongst the ravage of war poignantly and majestically. The production values were excellent. This travesty of an effort is an affront to the war, medium of direction, the art of story and script writing. It seems a deliberate effort was made to make it as slow and boring as possible. The tragedy being that this aired AFTER Winds of War was already available. How could this even be made? Such a disappointing experience.

Dated, unoriginal & shoddy.
31 July 2022
In 2022, this is a travesty. Such a clichéd script, such repetitive characters, poor direction mars the series right from 1st scene. I was shocked to see that this trash was made by BBC. Shame on them. Tried for 2 episodes but the garbage was incomprehensible and so ridiculously cheesy! Sad part is that the theme of the series had potential. It was tragically totally destroyed by a bunch of most incompetent people.

Pretentious, inconsistent and too long.
27 July 2022
It started very well. The first 40 minutes were riveting. I was certain that this is going to be a masterpiece. Then it went downhill like nobody's business. A stupid romance, boring long scenes with little to elucidate, a story headed nowhere at snail's pace. The worst was a tepid ending, completely at odds with a fantastic and brilliant start of the movie. 3 hour runtime was unpardonable. Perhaps the director got misled into thinking that he is creating a masterpiece, which this definitely wasn't.

Height of disappointment!
23 July 2022
A joint production is an opportunity. And boy, was it squandered! A shoddy script, haywire story, multiple threads running simultaneously (none of which holds viewers interest), worst possible choice of actors (The lady playing British detective, The actor playing Yuto), and abrupt entry and exit of characters like a game of revolving chairs. In Last episode director seems to have accepted that trash has been made so he changes track and tries to introduce 3rd class humor, and even worse, fails in that as well. Typical Netflix trash, focused on nothing, unnecessarily woke, shoddy and poorly conceived and acted. 8 episodes will feel like a lifetime. Stay away from this garbage, watch something else.

Such a 3rd class series.
17 July 2022
A really 3rd class, deplorable series. After the first 2 episodes it goes downhill at a rapid pace. Becomes unwatchable from 3rd episode onwards. Just full of boring stupid dialogues, moves at snail's pace. Characters introduced without warning and abruptly with no explanations. Just one of the most disappointing British shows ever, which I couldn't bear to finish. Its a blot on Masterpiece series collection.

Lost quality and coherence in middle.
14 July 2022
Well this is a very strange show to review. It started off like an absolute classic. The first 3 episodes were breathtaking. I was actually surprised as I don't expect Apple tv to make any watchable tv series. However, soon enough the story became disjointed. New characters were introduced without explanation. Story kept changing direction and shifted timeline in every 5 minutes. Characters came and went with no closure. After 5 episodes it seemed a new series has started. The lead actress kept a single expression on her face right from first episode till last. The worst part is that the script itself is boring so all blame can't be placed on direction and acting. Sadly what started with the pretense of a classic, turned out to be boring damp squib. I am not sure if I would torment myself with the 2nd season, but you never know. Apple tv just can't do it.

Starts very well...then fizzles out.
10 July 2022
It was a haphazard, erratic production. It started of very well & gave the pretense of being a classic show. However soon started to follow standard clichéd concepts and techniques of storytelling. Some episodes were disjointed, not linked with the story & seemed like fillers. The ending was pathetic, with most important questions not fully resolved. There were coincidents which seemed absolutely absurd. In conclusion its potential wasted. It could have been a much much better show. But it wasn't.

It was a lifetime in 4 episodes.
6 July 2022
It was a saga. A story of life, human failings, human perspective in 4 hours of well made tv series. Also makes me think that once bbc made such classics! Now they make sub standard woke trash. What a decline and what a pity. I am not British but I like British shows. This is one of the better ones for sure. I wanted to rate this at 8 stars but dont know why i held back. Its a beautiful series.

Well made, enjoyable but forgettable.
1 July 2022
I loved this beautiful production. It was engrossing but not brilliant, it was stylish but not irreplaceable, it was watchable but not a classic. It was clichéd yet it held my attention. It also wasn't as raunchy as some reviews might lead you to believe. I didn't like the way it ended quite abruptly. Perhaps another season going further into Louis the XIV's latter days would have been a better conclusion. His rivalry with Vatican was also left unaddressed. Still it was a well shot, directed and most importantly watchable series. In today's time, thats saying a lot.

Intolerable.

Cant believe Martin Scorsese can make sub standard trash like this. Its grossly overrated by wannabe intellectual critics and pretending viewers. The reality is that its just a bad film, with bad acting and poor execution. It could not hold my interest and I didn't finish the film. Whenever Martin Scorsese has ventured out of his tried and tested genre, some below par films have been made. This is definitely one of them. Unwatchable.

Nice series but terrible acting by Peter Strauss.
13 June 2022
In 2022, after 37 years, this series is still watchable and can hold one's interest. Gets clichéd at points but still was overall very enjoyable. However, peter Strauss was terrible in his role as Abel. His fake Polish accent was a monstrosity. He made expressions and faces like a clown. I guess in those days such histrionics was considered good acting? But in 2022 its intolerable. On the other hand Sam Neill was superb in his role as always. Anyway, I enjoyed the show 37 years after it was made, thats something.

Patience will be rewarded.
4 June 2022
The show was a very intelligent yet slow paced adaptation of very high quality source material. Sometimes I got impatient in certain episodes, but am glad that I stayed the course. Benedict cumberbatch was OUTSTANDING in the role. Just brilliant. His expressions, that quiver of emotion...it said much more than words. There were some deep moments, very poignant as well. Some witty ones also. I would have rated it 7.5 if option was there. Just stay with this show, it will be a rewarding experience.

Terrible..just terrible.
3 June 2022
Horrible acting, cheesy expressions, pathetic script. The first episode was like a rude slap in the face..it started from nowhere...no base...no character building..no explanation...just like a punch on ur nose! It was worse than a daytime soap....a nightmare. Dumped it after 1 episode....life is too short for this trash.

In 2022...its an insult to the events of WWII.
31 May 2022
After having seen so many brilliant and poignant films/ tv series on the sad events of WWII and holocaust, this show was a big let down. Specifically the rating is completely unjustified. Its dated, with poor production values, poor script, poorly executed. Its a lazy lackluster production. However, it was made long before the advent of new age in cinema and perhaps its incorrect to judge it in 2022. Nevertheless, its definitely a production which has totally failed the test of time.

Tolerable only if you feel connected.
25 May 2022
For unconnected viewers from different countries, it will be tough to sit through this show. It drags on endlessly. I couldn't establish a real rapport with the characters and storyline even in episode 2. Decided to call it quits. Dont get me wrong, perhaps for connected local viewers it would be a different experience. For me it wasn't.

Had enough of this copy cat concept.
25 May 2022
It was great the first time we saw this inter border collaboration in broen broen. It became irritating in tunnel. It was tedious in US adaptation of the bridge. Now, its just intolerable and repugnant. That same old beaten to bare bones European motley mix of moral conundrum, supernatural, murder and so called mystery. Add to it a journalist, 2 police detectives with convoluted lives and voila....a supernatural noir is ready! What happened to originality? Is Europe running out of any other concept of building a thriller tv show? As a viewer I have had enough of this plagiarized nonsense. No more.

Was it Britain?
22 May 2022
Is Britain actually becoming or has become what they showed in season 3? Or was season 3 just epitome of woke propaganda? I am writing from India and actually laughing hard as the season seemed to be set in some south east asian town. On a serious note how apologetic the tone of the show was shocking! I feel for the white characters in these shows ....poor guys they are now relegated to side kicks or being villains...while others are saintly figures doing devout worshipping in every scene. The lead actress was wearing head scarf in half the show! I have seen this kind of funny, apologetic, over board depictions in Indian cinema for decades. It doesn't achieve anything. Now its turn of the British! If it wasn't so pathetic, I would laugh some more. Sadly no focus was on script story direction and acting. It was one agenda that they bothered about. Thats it. Longest 6 episodes of trash I ever saw.

Well made crisp mystery. Just the right length also...only 4 episodes. Enjoyed it thoroughly. Nothing brilliant, just good old mystery the way it should be. Cant understand the low rating though! Was it not woke enough?
