Howling III (1987)
Oh my God.
Oh my God.
Hey, hey - it's not my fault - the blasphemy, I mean...it's the movie.
I had nothing better to so, so I watched this movie on t.v. - well what I could abide at any rate. And, well, all I can say is if you find yourself in a similar situation - go out of your way to FIND something better to do.
No substance, no believable props, or acting for that matter...this reeked of a low budget (which in some cases works out just fine...just not this time). I just seemed to me like they weren't even trying to make anything really fit to be watched.
Sorry guys, better luck next time...that is if there's a next time. I doubt any sane person would let this happen again.

The Sixth Sense (1999)
More dead people would have been cool.
I was a bit annoyed when I saw this movie because someone told me something about this movie before I went and saw it. Something I think the movie goer, wasn't really meant to know. Something that they really shouldn't have told me at all.pretty much the point of the whole movie really. So, consequentially my review is marred.
So all through the movie, I'm like, `Ok, when's this going to happen?'
I'm not going to mention what this thing was exactly, because I know how annoyed I was and don't want to annoy anybody else.
But I definitely thought the movie needed more dead people. Does that sound odd? Oh well.
The focus of the movie seemed to be more the Bruce Willis character than the boy, but they both helped each other out. So it was cool. In a way, even though Bruce (first name basis) was the focus, the boy had the most important part. I think that made sense.
I'm sure if my enjoyment wasn't slaughtered by previous patrons of the movie, I would have given this movie a MUCH higher rating. Alas, I'll never truly know how I would have viewed it, had I been ignorant.
All in all, an alright flick, but I said it before, and I'll say it again, should have been more dead people.

The Matrix (1999)
What is the Matrix?
What is the Matrix? The question upon many people's lips, and on the side of a few buses in Melbourne, I can tell you. Well.I could tell you the answer to that question, but then I would have to kill you. You understand?
The Matrix, besides being abundant in awesome special effects (mainly computer generated) also has quite a fictional tale to tell. The story, without giving too much away, was very computer orientated, a little confusing if not paid attention to, fast moving and a little frightening to wrap your mind around. Unfortunately I don't think I can say much more without giving too much away. "Oh, come on," you're going. No, sorry, I really can't.
This movie was shot in Sydney (so my friends tell me) and quite a few Aussie actors make appearances, including Hugo Weaving (Jurassic Park) and Matt Doran (ex-Home and Away). Keanu Reeves (even though I don't really think that much of him) was pretty good in the leading role and depicted his character as a type of enigma, probably leaving most of the audience to wonder if.right until the end.
After seeing this film and walking out of the theatre, I took a look around me and couldn't help but think, "Is this real?" Definitely one of those movies that leave you thinking, "But, what if it's real?"
If you were pondering the thought of seeing this movie, I would definitely suggest that you see it in a large theatre, with a huge screen and surround sound (or whatever you call it), definitely adds to the atmosphere.
I give it 4 wide, uncomprehending eyes. (4/5)
Dogma (1999)
More Kevin Smith Mayhem
From start to finish this film is thoroughly entertaining. Even though there are disclaimers at the beginning, I still reckon that Catholics will enjoy this as much as the atheiests - perhaps even more, considering the so many references to different aspects of the Christian religion.
Basically this is a story not unlike but not all that similar to films along the `Prophecy' line, regarding two angels played by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon who, after being banished from heaven, discover a `loop hole' that will allow them to re-enter their paradise - the only problem is, if they succeed in their plans, they'll unmake all that their maker has made - if that makes sense.
The ideas in this film, apart from seeming like far out conspiracy theories, actually make a tad of sense. For example, why in the Bible does it not mention Jesus' life from ages 12 to 30? Could it be that Jesus had to mature and deal with the fact that he was God's only son, or was it a cover up for the family or Mary who possibly had more children, to make her appear more pure?
With the usual cast to be expected from Kevin Smith, plus some (well one) pretty surprising extra - this film is even more enjoyable than his previous films, including Clerks, Mall Rats and Chasing Amy.
Jay and Silent Bob were outstanding as usual - the only problem I found with the pair, was not knowing which to focus on - on the big screen. A small amount of the dialogue was a little fast for my ears, but the entire amount that I did hear was thoroughly enjoyable, humourous and witty.
More of the story? Ok. There's this woman, who's been nominated to, for reasons cleverly explained in the movie, stop the two outlaw angels from reaching their holy destination. Along her journey, which begins with her meeting Allan Rickman's character, `the voice of God' and two prophets (Jay and Silent Bob), she accidentally it seems forms a posse, composing also of Chris Rock as the 13th apostle and Salma Hayek, playing the muse.
Together with the angels, the mortals, the whole deal, they make their pilgrimage or crusade a most humourous expedition, with a few surprises at the end. You'll never guess what face `God' picks to show up in.unless someone has already told you. It shocked me, I'll tell you.
I liked this movie very much and would definitely see it again, maybe even get it on video.to keep and watch when I'm feeling like a large unadulterated dose of Kevin Smith.

Braindead (1992)
Terrific Use of a Lawnmower
If you don't like this review and decide not to run to the video shop and rent this, then at least have a look at the cover next time you're browsing in the horror section. It's a pretty cool, bumpy cover, that just feels like it contains an `B' Grade horror flick.
It's `R' rated.why?
Braindead, it's a love story, it's a comedy, it's a horror.
Braindead is a gory, love story, horror, comedy, that's what it is. I love the bit where he's reborn! And my friend was right, terrific use of a lawn mower.
I Don't Want to Be Born (1975)
Fantastic!! (not really)
B-Grade Horror at it's Worst.
If you really enjoyed Rosemary's Baby, then you might actually watch this entire movie. But it's really quite boring. Once again, it's a cool concept, but the actual movie let's me down.
For the purpose of warning you off, I'd better give it a rating of 1 out of 10 (and I think I'm being kind).
