Ignore the brigading, give it a go
20 June 2019
I was surprised to see this be given such a low rating. As an educated hindu who is very well versed in religious texts and dogma, I found it quite entertaining. Not the best show, I've seen more nuanced discussions around this subject matter.

I think religion is an anachronism and reactions to shows like this portray exactly why. As you can see from the reviews and ratings, this absolutely brings out the worst in humanity. Holding something as being unimpeachable, unquestionable, and absolutely castigating and vilifying criticisms shows how parochial some people have become.

Wake up neanderthals!

Does not live up to the hype

Warning: Spoilers
I had very high hopes for this movie. The subject matter chosen was very interesting and with RGV at the helm, this movie would be bloody amazing right? WRONG!!

It turned out to be a complete let-down for me. Judging by the "post- viewing" reactions of the folks sitting around me after the movie concluded, it appears that I am definitely not the only one.

The movie was an "epic phail" for me because of the following aspects:

1) The songs were absolute rubbish. Music was nice but the lyrics were asinine to say the least. However, this is simply a matter of taste and other movie-goers may disagree.

2) Over-usage of sound-effects to such an extent that it seemed like I was watching a spoof. Moreover, in certain instances, the timing of the "atmospheric music" was a bit off. It appeared that it was developed independently from the script and then just thrown in.

3) Overacting... truckloads of it. They brought some chap named Sudeep to play the role of Jai Malik. Now this bloke has quite a meaty role and one wonders whether it was sensible to cast an inexperienced actor in such a role. The actor who plays the part of his girlfriend is like a brick with a smiley face (maybe not, she's quite pretty) but she cannot act if her life depended on it.

4) Infantile distinction between good and bad. For instance, bikini-clad weather girls = evil. There are loads more, but it can be quite irksome.

5) The script writing is horrendous. There is a lot of stuff in the plot that just doesn't go anywhere.

6)Character development leaves a lot to be desired. Also, there are enormous plot holes in the movie, and to believe some of the things, you may have to take an enormous leap of faith.

***** possible Spoiler ******

7) The WORST monologue that I've seen in years. Its almost like a bleedin' K-serial. The entire audience in the hall started boo-ing, making snide remarks etc.

****** end spoiler ********

While I wouldn't say that this movie is the "worst movie ever made", but it definitely does not live up to the hype. There are a few good things about the movie... Rajpal Yadav adds a bit of slapstick humor (which another commenter found to be very intellectual and subtle LOL) and Big B does try his best. However it appears that his role is very little, just a little more than a cameo.

It is, at best, a mediocre movie. RGV appears to have completely lost his magic. Watch it if you must, but I would recommend giving it a pass.

**EDITED** The IMDb page for Rann appears to be over-run by fanboys resulting in the rating rising up to 8.3/10 (at present). In addition, there are a few reviews that absolutely go ga-ga over this mediocre excrement. It appears that this is part of the rather over the top PR campaign that the promoters are executing (TOI gave it a ludicrous 4.5/5). Which is rather ironic since the movie itself is about ethics.

An Amazing Movie
13 April 2008
Let me start by saying that I am an Indian and this is my first glimpse of the Pakistani movie industry. The movie was extremely well made and gave me quite a window into the world of my brothers and sisters across the border. I bought the unedited DVD and although the movie is rather long, I was spellbound for the entire duration. There was not a single moment where I found it a bit slow/boring. The actors, although unknown faces (except for Nasiruddin) were exceptional... all of them. I will not write a very long wordy review and will definitely not divulge anything from the story...its definitely worth a watch. And if you're a movie buff, add this to your collection.

Final Conclusion: A MUST WATCH!

Another Cash

I didn't have extremely high expectations from this movie. However, this movie almost hit zero. The plot was overly convoluted and after the 100th twist I simply gave up trying to find a coherent plot line. The special effects and music is awesome, a visual feast.. however, the story falls flat on its face. Akshay Khanna's acting is extremely "constipated" (for want of a better word). This story had a lot of potential, however, the writer totally messed it up by adding too many plot twists and making the story borderline incoherent. The dialog writer failed miserably to create humor and the only people laughing were the ones in the front stalls (autowallahs and the other "not so discerning" members of the audience).

Conclusion, only watch this movie if there is nothing better to do... like watch paint dry.

A "Must-not" See
16 June 2007
My 2 cents: This movie was highly recommended to me by a friend. He "sms'd" me the previous night and told me that it was an awesome movie... something that I should see the very next day. Taking his advice, another friend and I bought tickets at a "premium charge" (being newly released and all). Halfway through the movie, I wanted to tear my arm out and beat myself to death with it. The movie has an abysmal storyline. The intended "plot-twist" most moviegoers can predict when they are 30 mins into the movie. We stayed back after the intermission coz after all, a movie cannot be _that_ lame and boring.... Well, to our horror, it actually was. So USPs of the movie: 1) Lara Dutta looks hot 2) Nice song (only one... but after the 100 billionth repetition, it actually becomes really irritating) 3) Big B in a cool outfit.

Why you should not see this movie: 1) Extremely boring and slow. 2) Very lame jokes - courtesy small B. (Ash's man-toy) 3) Predictable storyline. 4) Big B needs to buy a ticket to Pluto and come back after a gazillion years... somebody needs to tell him about something called "OVER-EXPOSURE".

Conclusion: DO NOT SEE!
