Avatar (2009)
Visually stunning
I have been waiting for this film my entire life. Not only am I a die hard sci fi fan, I love a good action sequence. After booking months in advance and queueing for an 1hr at the IMAX it was all worth it. This movie was the best visual cinematic experience of my life. Period. Not only does it completely transport you into Pandora itself; when it's all over you will be dragged back into the real world kicking and screaming.
Astounding effects, editing, sound and score. No doubt it will be inundated with well deserved nominations and awards. James Cameron once again proves that he is the "king" of Sci-Fi.
Travel to a world far away and bask in all the beauty that is Avatar.
Run to the IMAX right now! This film won't be at the IMAX forever. Tell your friends and go again and again. 10/10 Enjoy.
Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007)
Lacklustre
As a huge fan of the first film, I was very disappointed with the outcome of the Golden Age. Even though I cannot deny the fantastic performances from most of the cast, I thought that the script was terrible. Remedial remarks about relationships and men...it felt like a 16th century chick flick. Even though I do enjoy chick flicks,I personally feel that the film should not have been portrayed in this way.
There was absolutely no chemistry between Abbie Cornish and Clive Owen; whether this was intentional I do not know. This is in addition to the unbelievable relationship between the Queen and Bess. I just didn't feel any bond between them what so ever!
Great costumes, cinematography etc...it's just the storyline that lets it down. Perhaps it is because the first one was such a masterpiece that it set an unreachable standard. All in all a 6/10....but Clive Owen made it all worthwhile!!!
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007)
Spectacular!!!!!
Having enjoyed Dead Man's Chest, bar the first 40 minutes, I was eagerly anticipating the third film. Boy, was I not disappointed. Loved every, single second of it!!!! And came out hungry for more. Beautiful cinematography, directing, fantastic score and amazing acting from all the cast. Johnny Depp is of course superb, but can we expect anything less? Everything about it was fabulous. The only reason that I haven't given it a 10/10 is because the plot is confusing, but with all the excitement it really doesn't matter who's doing this or that. You can vaguely get the gist. A swashbuckling masterpiece. Can't wait to go and see it again. This film is the reason why going to the cinema is magical.
