I stayed at the U.S. for a year after high school. I went to the movies regularly, because back then it was not easy to watch films in english. And I love american movies :)
I also like french movies, e.g. folm noir and thrillers.
I still live watching movies at the theater, although I always don`t have the time for it.

Expend4bles (2023)
The worst of the franchise but still entertaining
I liked part I - III because of the old-fashioned action. This one has too much CGI in it.
The story is not worth to be mentioned, but this is no surprise.
Nevertheless I still like to watch Jason, Sylvester, Dolph and the other guys. Especially Tony Jaa and UIko Uwais are fun to watch, as you could expect.
The action sequences are a little bit over the top but I guess they did it on purpose. It´s the perfect stage for a night out with the boys. Just don't take it too seriously when Jason takes out a dozen bad guys within 30 seconds.
Megan Fox is a disaster. A doll like this in an adult action movie? Come on, it's not Barbie... Every single scene with her is ridiculous.
The Domino Principle (1977)
Try to watch the original
This movie is great. The cast is absolutely fantastic. It's in the fairway of "Three days of condor" or "Twilight's Last Gleaming" although the suspense doesn´t come that close. Anyway, this one will give you a lot of thinking about conspiracy, the dirty game of politics and the world of the secret services.
But here is my advice: please don't watch the german version. I don't have a clue why they cut it for at least 20 minutes. The running time of 80 minutes ist not comprehensible. Sometimes it is even ridiculous, for example when Hackman wears a different shirt from one scene to another and you don't even realize that he has changed places. You can imagine what the consequences for the plot and the suspense are...
Totally crackbrained!
Deal (2008)
Great Poker flick - but not more
To make it short: the story is awful - poker hot-shot and his old mentor meet on the final table - and so is the acting - I really don't know what Charles Durning has lost in this movie!
But if you like poker (like I do), you' ll love this film. Popular professionals have differentcameo scenes, the scenes which take place at the poker table are very entertaining and well made. Burt Reynolds does a good job, I think that he had a lot of fun doing this movie. By the way: Meg Tilly is one of the best female poker players ever (in real life), so this must have been her intention by acting here (if you have the guts to call this an acting).
If you don't like poker, you'll find this flick boring and the plot really stupid.
So your decision to watch it or not should be really easy!
Cube (1997)
Oh my god
I saw this movie the other night by accident. I just wanted to switch off my TV when I zapped to this movie. And I regretted it, believe me. 2 precious hours of sleep wasted! I don't remember the last time I was that confused. After the movie finished I stared at the screen for a while (it must have been an dull portrait) not knowing what to do next. A stupid plot, unnecessary cruelty and no answers in the end. I could not believe that grown-up people could make such a movie. What is all this relating stuff about KAFKA ? Kafka is a highly admired philosopher,German like me, and people say he was insane in his last days. There is absolutely nothing that reminds me of Kafke when I watch this movie (besides the fact, that Kafka was insane). I'm sorry, maybe I 'm still too confused to explain what I felt. And by the way, I'm still missing 2 hours of relaxing sleep.
Covert Action (1988)
Just Fun
I have seen this movie maybe 12 or 13 years ago. It came back to my mind when I saw a TV documentary about snipers at the israelian army the other night. All I remember about this flick is: there is no emotion, no sympathy no nothing when you watch it. In Germany the title is "Hangmen 2" related to 1987's "Hangmen". Both titles are available on video only in Germany. You can imaging why. It's bad acting and you have to search the story by using enlarging glasses. But anyway: the atmosphere somehow is above the average of an ordinary low-budget action-flick. The music and the feeling of oppressiveness is something not many movies have. And: it's the best sniper-movie ever.
Commando (1985)
Arnie at his best
I think this is one of Arnold Schwarzenegger`s best movies besides "Predator" and "Terminator 1 + 2".
In the last 3 or 4 years (since 1997), Arnie has become soft. "Eraser" was an attempt to show the old, good Schwarzenegger. But the newer movies, e.g. "The 6th day" are not exactly what the real audience expects from him. I`m a huge fan for 15 years now and I really do believe that he is made for one category only: hard action movies. Not more, not less.
In "Commando" Arnie tries not to be serious, he just wants to entertain. And, hey, thats absolutely okay. If I want to see something sophisticated I prefer french director Claude Chabrol or Roman Polanski.
But in movies like "Commando" he is going to entertain his good old fans who want to see him running, shooting and jumping from expolsions.
Not more and not less !
