Stromberg (2004)
Very good
I love The Office, I've seen the UK and US version several times and I'm also a fan of Ricky Gervais work.
Because I'm not a German native (B2 level) I didn't have high expectations for the German version. But boy I was so wrong, the humor, the mimic and the sayings are just outstanding, I laughed a lot and I think it's on par with the other versions.
Herbst is genuinely funny and acts masterfully, and the character interactions are realistic.
I really don't get why this show isn't more popular, at least in Europe. Maybe because it comes only with German subtitles!
Netflix should do better with this comedy gem, it should provide subtitles at least in English, they are so rare and these days there's no comedy anymore, everything is controlled and politically correct.
South Park (Not Suitable for Children) (2023)
Real problem
I liked the way they've built this special, it is much more grounded than the last special, and I think a bit weaker.
Or maybe it is so because of the subject involved: I'm not sure how serious is this in the USA, but I have to tell you that in Europe it's a big deal nowdays - children being "influenced" on social media platforms (mostly YT or Twitch), by grown-ups "influencers" sponsored by the betting companies, energy drinks, pawn-shops etc. Not to mention that video chatting industry, and of course OF are just the norm here.
Randy was just hilarious and stole the show, but I think the CRED subject was a bit too much for me, maybe they've should have added another funny subplot.
But overall I am happy that at least we got another special episode this year!
Thanks guys!
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)
Better than Guardians of the Galaxy
I went to the movie theater without high expectations, but this movie really blew my mind for 2 hours straight.
Great lines, smart jokes, amazing CGI, and really good acting from main cast.
It reminded me a lot of Guardians of the Galaxy mixed with Fantastic Beasts, but it was really original and did it's own thing.
Chris Pine was so funny here and the chemistry with more "serious" Michelle Rodriguez cracked me up.
Also, Hugh Grant gets a huge shoutout for how well manages to tackle this role.
I really hope it will do well at box office so we can expect a sequel because we struck golden here.
Of course, it's better if you read a bit online about D&D lore, but even without that, the movie is an easy recommendation.
South Park: Post Covid - The Return of Covid (2021)
Brilliant
I really loved this Covid season!
For long time I was eager to see how Southpark characters would look like when they will grow up and I wasn't dissapointed! Butters was spot on!
The portrayed city, the shops, the tiny details of the future Colorado were just hilarious and spot on!
It amazes me how relevant and authentic the creators still manage to be after all these years and how they tackle different sensitive topics like vaccine and NFT-s, I really don't get the hate.
Can't wait for 25th season, the bar was set high.
Resident Evil Village (2021)
One of the best
This game is heavily inspired by Romanian folklore, countryside, traditions, food and legendary monsters and I don't know why they don't emphasize this more.
Having played about 6 previous RE games, I have to say this is the best and one of my all time favourite: the story, the puzzles, the models, the authentic atmosphere they managed to create it really blew my mind away.
This game really deserved that Steam GOTY award!
Midnight Mass (2021)
Go play Vampyr
I love Mike's work on his other shows, and also I like this a lot, but really felt like it misses something to make it great.
The cinematography and the acting are fantastic, the Bible references and the monologues are spot on.
You should really play Vampyr (Dontnod Entertainment) as a continuation if you like vampires universes.
Between Pain and Amen (2019)
Accurate movie. tough to watch
This is a very good Romanian movie, with great cinematography and acting, but also tough to watch by sensitive people, mainly because of explicit violent scenes.
If you do a little research about "Pitesti experiment" before you watch this, you will see that the facts are very accurately depicted, and the director captured and presented that horrifying communist prison atmosphere to a level seen only in big budget movies (actually this movie is an independent one, with private funding and was filmed in very harsh conditions - and not a surprise - it was NOT funded by the CNC - Romanian National Cinematography Center because.. "reasons").
In our times, when everything is censored and goes PC, it's a wonder that this got public recognition and won prizes on several film festivals!
Kudos to the team that worked on this project, especially to the director that felt it was his duty to create such a gem, and bring a little light and truth about that sad period in our lives. Go watch this!
Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
One of the best action movies ever made!
This is my first review on this site and wanted to do it mostly to thank all the people involved in making this great movie! A truly classic masterpiece with over the top action and one of my favorite movies all time!
