Road House (2024)
Jake Gyllenhaal Carries This Film
Jake Gyllenhaal's portrayal of Dalton is funny, endearing, and great in the fight choreography.
I wish I could say the same for everyone else in this movie. The line delivery is so stilted, and in the character Charlie's case, very garbled. I don't understand her choice of line delivery at all.
The motive of the "bad guys" isn't super clear, and when it is revealed it seems like very small potatoes. The stakes aren't high enough for me. The relationship between Dalton and Ellie isn't compelling either.
I do wish that there was at least one or two quotes from the original in this remake, like "pain don't hurt", or "I thought you'd be bigger". The lack of a Sam Elliott character is sorely felt.
Beckman (2020)
If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Poorly.
Well we just finished this movie after giggling at the trailer and imagining David A. R. White thinking himself a blockbuster action hero. Ooof.
The script was abysmal, the acting was sub-par, but the puffs of blood after every gunshot like they were done by the MS spray-paint effect was a nice touch.
Just get a different haircut already.
Bridgerton (2020)
Season 1: Historical Fiction Felt Rushed, Lacked Depth
Season 1 felt rushed to me. The producers and writers should have taken their time to draw out the story for two seasons, in my opinion, to fully flesh out the characters and give everyone some much deserving depth.
By the time anything consequential happens to anyone you hardly care because sufficient time wasn't devoted to developing who these people are and why we should care about what happens to them.
The end of this season was dissatisfying as well. Overall I probably won't rewatch it unless I want to watch some soft-core porn.

Netflix Hasn't Nailed Reality Yet
Netflix needs to study the classics: Rock of Love, I Love Money, Flavor of Love, Charm School, etc.
The concept could have been a hit if the contestants had a better incentive to break the rules more often, but they didn't. Not everyone was attracted to someone so much that they couldn't help themselves. The starting pot of money should have been a lot higher too.
The only drama came from the long pauses between Lana's words, and they even had to dress-up those moments post-production to make it seem more suspenseful than what they were - snooze.
Also, despite filming for a month there was such a lack of content that the season was only 8 episodes long, which isn't long enough for you to get invested into any person or couple.
