Invasion (2021)
Awful. Way too slow. Needs an editor.
It's just awful and I'm watching the whole thing to see if it ever gets better, but it's ugh. Four, five different stories, only 2 of them interesting. Directed in slow motion and the background music is atrocious.
Rollerball (2002)
Stupid remake , BUT last 15 minutes are GREAT
First 5 minutes are great, last 15 minutes are great. Some gratuitous hot nudity, and the star of The Professional was awesome.
Bizarre night vision segment in the middle...
The actual sport was never explained.
Fun fact: original Rollerball was counter-clockwise motion, this one was Clockwise. But the gameplay is irrelevant to the bizarre story.
The ending was great, tho.
Die Hard 2 (1990)
Fun, but airport fakery - spoilers
When they're fighting on the 747 wing near the end, the plane is driving down the runway for about 4 minutes. No runway is that long.
The whole plot is that dozens of planes couldn't land in Washington DC and couldn't make it to Atlanta. Puh-lease, has anyone been to DC? What else is close? Baltimore, Philadelphia... there are 10s of millions of people in this area. Far more thane ONE airport.
But Bruce Willis is awesome, again.
Fatman (2020)
Worst movie seen this year
Murderous rampage. Sickening. I knew it was filmed in Canada, real snow. Pretend Alaska. I wrote this before the end of the movie. It just got worse. Dark and twisted and disturbing.
Halloween II (2009)
Only because I couldn't rate it ZERO
This movie is the worst movie I have ever seen. Misogynistic would be an understatement. Everything is telegraphed. No suspense, just sickening gore. Lousy acting, lousy direction, don't waste your time.
Snake Eyes (1993)
Worst movie I have ever seen, but not because of Madonna.
Madonna is far better in Body of Evidence, but what a lousy, depressing movie. No plot, just inferiority and substance abuse. Angry angry film, ridiculous ending.
King Kong (2005)
Too long, and forget about the ocean
This movie is waaaaaay too long. It could have easily been 2 hours.
Also, starts out in NYC, and is heading to Singapore by ship. Old ship. What? Panama Canal not built until 1914. Ship/boat captain says ... changing course to Rangoon (Burma aka Myanmar)..
The whole mysterious island is ok... but the boat's path? Not a chance. Even if they used the Panama Canal, which they didn't, cuz one main character was on the run from the law
Fantasy is great, but geography is ... important. There's no way this ship/boat made this trip, east or west. Far too far from NYC.
Bird Box (2018)
Ridiculous
The whole premise to get to the PSA at the end, using the children as pawns, ooh, will they survive. Way too long, so much of the yawn fest could have been edited. Awful
Molly's Game (2017)
One bad scene weakened this movie
The assault scene at her apartment made me disbelieve the story. She lost a lot of $$$$ and made to look like a victim. She was a winner and it's a great story, the scene was unnecessary. As was the "dad was a cheater" scene
Elizabethtown (2005)
Ben
Is my DVD skipping? When Clair (Clare?) draws the map for Drew on the plane and then starts talking about BEN... WHAT makes her start talking about BEN, or does she just start on about it? I have watched this many times and I still don't get it. It's not after she asks about Ellen... or mentions boyfriend, or anything unless my DVD is missing four seconds... :(
I love this movie the first time I saw it, and then my dad died a month ago and now I appreciate the movie that much more. Plus of course, I've driven half the states (pretty good for a Canadian) and Kentucky is beautiful, so the whole road trip thing plays pretty well. Very enjoyable, could have used a bit more editing (Samson could have been left right out), but the music was incredible and so was the casting.
St. Elmo's Fire (1985)
A 100 minute cigarette advertisement
When I was a young lonely geek back in 1985, this was a movie that was inspiring. I saw it a bunch of times in the theater and really bought the whole "my time is now" theme of the song.
Now that I've been married forever and have little kids, what do I notice? It has possibly the most smoking scenes in the history of movies. Almost every character smokes in every scene, no matter where they are... a hospital, work, etc. The only time they stop smoking is when they stop to drink, and stalk.
It is interesting to see how Demi Moore and Rob Lowe started out, since they're still quite successful (and in the case of Demi the producer, rich).
Despite sub-par acting and all those cigs, it still gets a 6 because it's got some great lines.
