Beau Is Afraid (2023)
Needs a few edits
The movie lost money because it was too long, the first half of the movie was great , the second half lost me. The scene in the forest and all the imaginary cartoon effects should have been eliminated greatly reducing the cost of the movie, The ending was silly, keeping it realistic would have enhanced the movie compared to what transpired. I would rather have Beau go up to the attic and have the movie end leaving me to guess what was up there, anything would have been better than the nonsense the director came up with.
The first half shows what the social decay in America is beginning to look like, that portrayal makes a real horror show..
The Beekeeper (2024)
A new category for Academy Awards is required.
The movie would win an Oscar for the most number of F bombs in one movie if there was a category for the most number of F bombs in a movie. As the cowboy stranger said to the Dude "Do you have to use so many cuss words?"
The writer's mother should of washed out his mouth with a bar of Irish Spring deodorant soap when he was a child.
The quality of dialogue is inversely proportional to the number of cuss words in a movie.
I look forward to AI generated actors in a movie who would have replaced the terrible acting in this movie.
The action was endless, the body count was high, some of the explosion scenes were entertaining but the whole premise of the movie was silly and unbelievable.
Game of Thrones (2011)
The Fantasy Stuff Ruined The Show
The show did did not need all the fantasy to make it great, there was enough conflict in the different kings fighting each other, back stabbing, forming alliances to rule over the country without introducing all the silly fantasy things such as fire breathing dragons, ice zombies, bringing people back to life, shape shifters, queens that could not burn etc. Despite this shortcoming the series is still worth watching considering the number of years that it was produced, the quality of the writing, actors, photography, costumes, set design and the shear number of people involved in the making of the series.
BlackBerry (2023)
Rating: Made for tv movie
If you are expecting a mega blockbuster movie with well known A list actors , you will be disappointed. You get a group of barely known Canadian actors who are seen on Canadian T V. Some of the actors are not realistic they seem more like cartoon characters.
J. Baruchel's performance is cringe worthy, Matt Johnson is a goof and should of stuck to directing and replaced with someone else.
The production value gives one the impression that you are watching a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation television show.
In spite of this the movie is interesting to watch, you can tell it is not a Hollywood production because there is no sex, violence, car chases, cgi , subliminal cigarette commercials or flying super heros.
Against a Crooked Sky (1975)
Entertaing Plot Cheezy Acting.
Entertaining movie diminished by cheezy acting. Richard Boone was a hoot and so was the dog, the rest of the actors didn't act they just recited their lines. The boy and the girl were especially amateurish. I think some of the Indians must of been related to Italians or some other Mediterranean nationality they did not look like Indians but talked and tried to impersonate the stereotypical Indian represented by Hollywood rather than being real people.
The background music and the scenery added to the film except for the stupid songs that diminished the overall ambience of the movie. Unlike a lot of movies made today the movie had an ending.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Wins my award for the most boring overated movie of the year.
Tom Cruise cannot act, he could be replaced with an automaton to play his part. You will spend a couple of hours watching him show us what a hero he is, riding a motorcycle real fast, control a jet fighter that also goes very fast, smile a whole bunch, have women smile at him. The plot is immature with all the typical macho garbage you would expect from an American military movie with Tom Cruise in it.
The movie reminded me of watching a video game, don't waste your time on this one. I watched it for an hour waiting for something interesting to happen but it was just too predictable to make it to the end.
Barbarian (2022)
Who paid for all the high ratings?
I think the ratings on this movie have been fabricated and are not a true representation of what most people think. I am sure a lot of these high ratings are done by people hired by the movie company so people will be encouraged to go see it. It is a real low budget movie, half of it takes place in an underground hallway, they must of saved a fortune on lighting and set design, it has a lot of nothing going on to draw it out to fill a time slot. The plot is hodgepodge. A movie is scary if it is realistic the monster and the plot are silly. If you want to be scared just turn on your local news channel and save the price of a theatre ticket.
McCartney 3,2,1 (2021)
Spit out the gum
Interesting and fascinating to hear the background of how the songs came to be, amazing how many of the great songs where recorded live without all the electronic computer gadgetry that is used today. The conversation with Rick brings out a lot of nuances with the songs that I didn't realise are there, however the music playing in the background was too loud and it was hard to hear the conversation at times, if there is another season Paul show some respect for your audience and don't chomp on a big wad of gum when you are talking spit it out before you speak you look like an old cow.
Very seldom listen to music by the Beatles these days however after watching this series the songs brought back memories of the 60's and 70's and my appreciation of their music has grown.
The Man from Toronto (2022)
Made for tv
You will be able to watch this movie on a commercial tv network in a few months it will be three hours long with a commercial selling women's hygiene products every 10 minutes, yes it is that bad.
Elvis (2022)
Over hyped sappy let down
You have not missed anything if you have not watched this, go watch videos of Elvis instead. Another movie with Forest Gump in it, as if the world needed more Forest Gump. The kid looked like a kid doing an imitation of Elvis. I don't want to spoil it for you but Elvis according to the movie, loved his mother you will be amazed at this and the other revelations in the movie.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
A confusing mess
The sound in this movie made it hard to follow or understand what anybody was saying, the actors whispered or talked too fast, too much background noise. Visually the movie is like experiencing an epileptic siezure. Just a confusing mess.
Jerry & Marge Go Large (2022)
What's to like about this movie?
There is no sex, no violence, no car chases, not any swearing, no prostitutes, nobody gets killed run over or thrown out of an airplane, there is no cgi, no people flying through the air turning into monsters, no dogs, no cats Adam Sandler isn't in it, so why would anybody really want to watch it. You going to have to watch it to find out.
The Shining (1980)
Too much silly supernatural paranormal garbage distracts from the movie.
The movie would have been better if Kubrick had not included all the silly supernatural paranormal garbage in it. If he had kept the hallucinations to Jack the movie would have had a greater impact. Giving the boy special powers only confused the story, the story should have been confined to Jack's mental breakdown. Shelley Duval's hysteria was believable, Nicholson did not have to act he just played himself, the same character he has played in all his movies, the boy was annoying.
Angelyne (2022)
This is an unfair review.
There was nothing in the show that gave me any reason to watch more than 10 minutes of this what ever it is supposed to be, maybe it is worth watching, but after the first ten monotonous minutes the commercials where more interesting than the show. Maybe you have to watch the whole thing but life is too brief.
Natural Born Killers (1994)
Too much gonzo camera work.
The hand held camera work distracts from being able to watch the movie, the picture bounces around and is hard to watch. However Tommy Lee Jones Dangerfield, Harrelson and Lewis are worth the watch even if you do get sea sick. As far as the story goes does anybody really care what Stone and Tarantino think of the news media as portrayed in the film, considering the news media has only deteriated into a quest for more viewers since the film was made.
Out of the Blue (1980)
Hopper did not act in this movie he just played himself.
Dissapointed with the movie, looked forward to something inspirational from Hopper, both the mother and daughter where annoying to watch, the sound and picture quality was terrible, the story mediocre, the first half of the movie without Hopper was just pointless the second half with Hopper just got worse, it was like having a drunk uncle come over to visit. After watching I was thankfull Hopper did not direct very many movies.
Box of Moonlight (1996)
Dull as a burnt out light bulb.
This movie was a chore to watch, John Turturro was about as dull as it gets and Sam Rockwell was a disappointment compared to his later efforts. Tuturro is great as a supporting actor but doesn't have the charisma to carry a movie as a lead actor. Sam Rockwell trys too hard to be a goof and he succeeds as being nothing but a goof. There are better movies with both actors then waste your time with thus one.
Dirty Work (1998)
Not stupid funny, not silly funny, not funny at all just stupid and silly.
The first 5 minutes when they showed flashbacks to when they where young was funny after that is became stupid and silly in spite of a long list of talented comedians and actors although a lot of them are now dead. It was also reunion of old SNL alumni.
King of New York (1990)
I thought it was a comedy
A comedy that was not very funny, Walken seemed like he was in a trance for the whole movie, he mumbled through all of his lines, Fishburne was a goof, Caruso overacted as usual, i could go on but why bother.
Dog (2022)
Who doesn't love dogs?
Dogs are the single most important animal that coexist with mankind, who doesn't love a a dog. Every night on the news they have a story about a dog, they should have a whole nightly news cast at least one hour long with nothing but news telling what all the dogs in the city are doing that day. This movie is about a man and a dog he keeps in the back of OJ Simpson's Ford Bronco. The dog barks and trys to attack people, they made a whole movie about it, isn't that just great.
The Seed (2021)
Sam Walker needed help with this one.
The movie had potential but Sam Walker needed help with the dialogue and the plot. It is hard to have respect for a writer who has to include the F bomb in almost every conversation. The movie is not funny and scary sounding music does not make a horror movie. The alien is repulsive, doesn't do much, 2/3 of the movie is over before it gets entertaining. The movie would have been more complex and interesting if the alien had been disguised as Elvis returning from the dead, rather than a pile of guts smelling like excrement.
Xanadu (1980)
It's like watching an hour and half Old Navy commercial.
An hour and half of people singing and dancing on roller skates, can't believe i watched it through the end, although I did nod off through part of it, not much of a plot. Maybe I was mesmerized by the colorful routines, sets etc, but the eighties sucked, the music sucked, the fashions sucked, the hairdoos and big glasses sucked , most of the movies sucked including this one.
Logan (2017)
Watch it for the special effects
The movie is two hours of the hero and a little girl slashing and killing people, with lots of squealing tire car chases and roll overs, the plot is mediocre, it is a shame that movies have deteriated to what this supposively one of the best movies ofcthe year has deteriated to.
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
What a silly movie
Other than a few good battle scenes this movie is silly, the plot is dull, the movie has a lot of filler of people running around shooting pretend lasers at each other there are so many instances where the movie has filler in it to drag it out to 2 hours. Mark Hamill is a B actor and was lucky to get the part. I could never understand what all the hype was about around this movie.
Mixed Nuts (1994)
Too bad it is not shown more often
Great funny movie that should be shown as a Christmas classic every year although I would have given the movie a higher rating if somebody had shot Adam Sandler while singing or even talking.
