Cube: Ichido haittara, saigo (2021)
Don't expect it to copy the original. And no, it is not like the original.
For some reason reviewers on this site are adamant on remakes being "faithful" to the original. They want crazy CGI and super scary horror scenes (not that the original was scary at all... can we talk about that? People complain that the remake doesn't fit the horror genre when the original wasn't in the first place), but unfortunately for them, this movie doesn't deliver on that. It does, however, deliver on other fronts that actually make the movie a worthwhile watch, like more drama, better character development, a more interesting ending, etc. What bothers me the most is that people complain about the introduction of backstory that occurs outside the Cube when all it does is give more insight on a character's motivation. There was never a "magic" of only seeing the Cube in the first place, so don't pretend like it mattered.
Hate Kills (2020)
short film that captures meaning correctly
This short film is successful in what many others fail to do--meaning. A lot of other shorts focus on direction, where the director tries to try out a new technique or style. While in this film, direction is slightly lacking, overall, the meaning and thought behind the story shows and nets this film an 8/10 for me.
Home (2021)
Decent short film with beautiful scenes
The cinematography is really great for just a short film. It brings out the amazingness of this world and the emotions to want to preserve it. It does get a little preachy at times, but it doesn't completely take away from it.
Xin mi gong (2014)
Everybody has secrets
The other reviewers on here have basically said what's important--intelligent script, great ending, and all in all a fantastic watch.
Through the movie, we get to see the various secrets, motivations, and unique traits that belong to each and every character in the film. Character development is something that is so often overlooked in films, and this one does it perfectly. No questions left unanswered by the end of the film.
