Mindless garbage

Further evidence society is sliding into the gutter. Debauched sh"te. We're certainly living in degenerate times. In my lifetime I've witnessed the steady decline in what is deemed acceptable viewing. Graphic violence, Sexual debauchery, full frontal nudity, Swearing the full pantheon is now mainstream. I worry for the future.

I'm confused about this show's popularity
19 August 2020
I must be missing something. I can't reconcile the universal maximum approval of this claptrap. I have loved most of the top HBO shows. Sopranos, the Wire, Breaking bad. All 9 to 10 out of 10 quality entertainment. This tosh was an immature poorly delivered shaggy dog story in comparison. The plot meandered tortuously from episode to episode and at such a slow pace I began to dislike it, eventually despising it. Blended throughout was the current politically correct agenda that sticks in my craw. To me the whole thing was odious and childish garbage. There was not a character I cared about and a couple I had to fast forward out of sight whenever they appeared on screen. I really did not like it and by episode 6 could not understand why I'd punished myself with it for so long.

Unacceptable premise - child organ harvesting?
13 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
For me, to enjoy a film with a heartless premise it needs to be at least believable. One line says it all - "You poor creatures I wish I could help you". In what kind of world would the practice of raising children for the purpose of organ harvesting and inevitable execution be accepted by any feeling human. You would have to accept a world where this practice had become banal before emotionally engaging further. I couldn't get past that so became bored fairly quickly and never engage with it. No background information whatsoever to explain on how this dystopian cruel society could possibly exist. In one scene an operating theatre team removed a major organ from a young woman with as much concern as gutting a dead fish. Leaving her freshly expired corpse laid out on the table and walking away. Really?? I call BS. Not for me.......

WTF?

No idea what that was all about. Cinema's contribution to inaccessible free form jazz. Calling it Incoherent would be kind. Not my cup of tea I'm afraid. I need at least some clue as to what's going on.

For those with the stomach to enjoy 'the human centipede' and similar nonsensical gross out theatrics. The premise was idiotic

Typical vapid Tarantino feature. Fell asleep - the emperor has no clothes. I have yet to watch anything this odious man has produced that is worth the time invested. I let myself down by renting this tosh...... Never again. The latter day Michael Winner.

Warning: Spoilers
A Village full of Fruitcakes. Totally irrational. It's not possible that they live in a place so remote as to have not raised at least a modicum of interest from the Swedish mass murderers and geriatric cliff leapers investigation department? Not in the least convincing or believable. The visitors were happy to hang around after the exhibition with the polishing off hammer display !!!!! Really!!!!

Fascinating

A mass murderer waxing lyrical on the subject of his practice. The devastating horrors he wrought on untold numbers seems to have found no traction with this subject's conscience.

Love anything paddy does. A unique dark revenge story with plenty of British humour and storytelling. No pretensions.

Immoral governance
28 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Further evidence (as if its needed) that no government exists that is not rotten to the core. A very sad tale of a criminal experiment run on people with no accountability whatsoever. The experimenters should be arrested but as it is the government where do you go?

Sick and twisted. On a par with the snuff film genre. You can intellectualise a reason to sit through this crap but to my mind you can't excuse the inexcusable. Couldn't watch it.... very upsetting.

Pure Nostalgia
9 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This story together with Bambi, Pinocchio and The Yearling has stayed with me all these years - funny that they're all about loss!! (Not sure whether that's memory trauma caused by instantly realigning a child's reality through sudden shock !!! - Like learning Father Christmas or the tooth fairy wasn't real.) I have ordered it online to rewatch for purely nostalgic reasons.

Utterly cryptic and bewildering
1 September 2019
The film clearly means something to some people but then so does Jackson Pollock and Frank Zappa. The only traction this film gained was both steadily increasing boredom and alienation. Not one for me and to the extent I will always eye this director with enmity and suspicion. Hated every minute of the thirty I spent testing my metal on it.

And for gods sake put some pants on that Kid.

Universal human story
31 August 2019
A tale and a warning of the cost of blind ambition and greed. A deeply moving story, simply told but beautifully portrayed in the traditional Japanese way. I was moved greatly by this film and will remember it for a long time. A masterpiece that couldn't have been told any other way. Certainly not by Hollywood. A recommended experience for the sensitive of soul.

Game of two halves
18 August 2019
The first 3/4 of this film was as good a thriller as I have seen if a tad brutal. It was tense, believable and had me completely drawn in. The last few scenes unfortunately was like letting the air out of the bag. I'm still baffled. There was no discernable link between the first and second parts. My score is given purely on the first part as the second was a case of WTF?....

Distressing
15 August 2019
With a young niece, I found this topic and presentation far too upsetting to be able to finish watching the film. The mere thought of it is a bridge too far. It is a strange world indeed that creatures such as the sadist portrayed here actually exist. Not my form of entertainment. It was enough to make me ensure I don't go near this type of material again.

One of my all time favourites
12 August 2019
Had I watched this when I was younger I wouldn't have had the experience to appreciate the beauty. Having now managed to survive many decades I can understand more. Children are one of the last free innocent joys in living. Just listening to them is music to my ears. This is a very simple documentary that explores the best of human nature. The teacher is a study in patience itself. A man who found his calling. Moved me to my core and will stay with me for a very long time. Beautiful.

Baffling
8 August 2019
I watched this and continued watching in the hope that clues would appear to explain the story. Unfortunately for me they never materialised. Clarity eluded me. Why the strange behaviour? Was it voodoo? Was he guilty? Was the boy doing something? Why did everyone accept the situation so readily? I Missed the point.... then again i'm not too sharp at catching on v quickly.

Beautiful masterpiece

Parts of this film moved like very few have. A stunning study of the beauty inherent in our sometimes deeply flawed human make up. The heart has its reasons that reason knows not of. I will remember parts of this film for many years to come. Wonderful moving experience.

Very dark, sinister and engrossing experience
23 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
A well executed and presented story about a well adjusted easy going young man driven to 'balance the books' by a callous, cruel and unhinged manifestation in human form. The film progresses steadily from a meeting of childhood aquantaintences to lovers, to friends to meeting disquieting strangers and all the time becoming darker and more sinister by stages. A slow burner that drew me in. Classy, intelligent and will stay with me for a long time. Thoroughly recommended. This is a masterpiece.
