Lost in Space (2018)
Lazy show meant for kids but milked the title for adults
The old story was ahead of its time but dated yet this regresses instead of making progress. The best thing is does is the production crew makes it visually appealing.
However the acting is average and the writing is embarrassing. If it isn't an action scene the show can be hard to watch.
If you want to see one of the worst characters I have seen a show commit to this show is for you. A character who is supposed to be a master liar and manipulator weave a web of lies with every single character in the show and betray them over and over and over and over and over with the worst logic and excuses you will ever hear just to them never held accountable. It becomes laughably bad but since it's a kids show consequences rarely exist.
Roswell, New Mexico (2019)
Lost Almost All The Charm Of The Original
Additionally the show is very heavy handed on focusing on stuff like racism, political issues, sexual orientation, drugs, etc. Which isn't something I personally look for to be a huge focal point in a show about aliens.
The show feels like it has too many characters in it making many of the scenes feel sloppy and a forced way to keep a character involved yet many of those plots go no where and end up pointless.
It also seemed pointless to let many of the characters keep the same names. Many of their personalities are so significantly changed as well as their friendships and relationships with each other that they are completely different characters.
The 100 (2014)
Wasted Potential
The plot concepts are actually really good as is the atmosphere, wardrobe, and aesthetics of the show. Even some of the acting is above par for a CW show. However the show is marred by lazy/bad writing and a terrible lead actress. You will find yourself repeatedly intrigued by the story only to be let down by the storytelling again and again and again.
Unfortunately despite some actors being cast quite well by far the worst casting was Eliza Taylor as the lead role in Clarke. Eliza is extremely limited in her ability to convey emotions. You will get used to seeing her use 2 go to moves for nearly every emotion. One being the head nod/bob which she will do repeatedly through her sentences sometimes literally on each word for emphasis. The other being when she pinches her eyebrows inward and pulls her forehead down (she does this so frequently she actually has a defined wrinkle pattern of it). This is a huge issue for her character who is consistently pushed as a leader and the person who is constantly the one to talk to the various groups leaders as well as the other characters one on one.
As said the show is not well written. It is written in a way that looks like the writers select an end point but don't know how to get the story from point A to B so they force it. Because of this characters and even entire factions such as the Grounders who got it the worst will abandon any character development for the sake of forcing story lines that simply do not connect or fit.
Which leads to another point in that the story is way to forced around the character of Clarke. We will get recurring dialogue from a variety of different characters who are no longer in character and in a variety of situations who will all just repeat the same stuff to Clarke about her own character. Instead of writing between the lines the writers will use lesser role characters to simply tell you directly what they are trying to convey or make you think. This even happens in negotiations outside of Clarke. Like when their are hostage situations and the lesser character who has the position of power will explain their weaknesses out loud to the other person surrendering all negotiating leverage for the sake of the writer explaining the scene through them. The writing is just infuriatingly bad at times.
Won't even go deep into romance in this show. Two romances are done fine but all the rest is so bad it isn't even laughable it is just painful to sit through. Think like your 13 year old sister went on her first date and is now in love and can't live without her date kind of nauseating.
For CW this show is more graphic in violence than expected which isn't bad and fits the story at times but the violence can be overdone as if to appeal to edgy kids. Get used to seeing a lot of people get beaten, cut up, bludgeoned in the head, shot, and tortured (sometimes on multiple different occasions for some characters) and with 1 exception it comes at no consequence. Physically, mentally, etc. Remember in a CW world relationship drama will always be harder to get over than being tortured for hours or days.
This show would have been great though if it was done by a different network.
