City of Fear (2000)
Decent, But Daniels Has Done Much Better.
The main problem with this movie is that it had a overall cheap look and feel to it. It also had long periods where nothing exciting really happened. But, Daniels fans will be happy to know that the man gets to show off his awesome fighting skills in some good fight sequences. Too bad there weren't more of them. Average overall, 5 out of 10. To see Daniels in top form, check out Recoil or Cold Harvest.
Universal Soldier: The Return (1999)
Terrible.
This is a worthless sequel to a great action movie. Cheap looking, and worst of all, BORING ACTION SCENES! The only decent thing about the movie is the last fight sequence. Only 82 minutes, but it feels like it goes on forever! Even die-hard Van Damme fans(like myself) should avoid this one!
Spoiler (1998)
Nice Change For Daniels.
Although made on a low budget, this movie manages to have some good effects and suspenseful escape scenes. Daniels gets few chances to show off his awesome fighting skills, instead focusing on his performance. He gives a excellent performance, proving he can do more than fight. You actually feel sorry for Roger Mason and understand why he makes the choices he does. 6 out of 10.
Hawk's Vengeance (1996)
One Of Gary's Worst.
I am a big Gary Daniels fan, and even I found this movie to be boring and unexciting! Not enough fights, bad acting(except for Daniels), and a terrible, weak villian. Plus, all the fights were horribly slow because nobody Gary fought was able to keep up with him. Add to all this low production values, and you have easily one of Gary's worst movies. Why was this released by a big company, and none of his good ones were, I'll never know.
Universal Soldier (1992)
Van Damme's Best.
This is easily Van Damme's best movie. A cool story, lots of action, and an awesome villain in Dolph Lundgren. Better than anything else Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin have made. Action fans will love this. 3 out of 4 stars. AVOID THE SEQUEL!
Eraser (1996)
Arnold's Last Great Action Movie.
This movie stays with the "Arnold Formula". Lots of action, one-liners, and a fast pace. And it works! Fans will be happy with this movie. After this he took a brake from action for a couple of years. He returned in 1999 with the very average END OF DAYS. Skip that and watch this if you want to see Arnold in top form.
RoboCop 3 (1993)
Not Bad, About As Good As Robocop 2.
This isn't a bad movie considering it's PG-13 and the first two were R. Burke does a decent job replacing Weller. I don't care for his voice though. Sounds too mechanical. But, on the plus side, it moves faster than Robocop 2. Plus, it has a lot of action and the score from the first one makes a welcome return. Overall, a good action movie, but nowhere near the level of the first one.
Demolition Man (1993)
Easily Stallone's Best Movie.
This is Stallone's best and last great action movie. He is in top form here, and surrounded by a great cast. Snipes steals the movie though, as the villianous Simon Phoenix. Why he hasn't played more villians since this is a mystery to me. Lots of action and a sense a humor that actually helps the movie make this perfect entertainment for action lovers.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
An Action Classic.
Easily one of Arnold's best movies. Tons of action, awesome special effects, a great villan, and a beautiful score. That doesn't mean it doesn't have some problems. After the escape from the hospital, the movie gets boring for a while. But it recovers with about 40 minutes of non-stop action at the end! Overall,3 out of 4 stars. Why can't Arnold still make movies like this? Hopefully he will before he retires.
Showdown in Little Tokyo (1991)
What's The Problem?
People seem to be awful hard on this movie. I guess they must not be action fans. I mean, come on, this movie's only purpose is to entertain. And it does its job well. It moves at a very fast pace for its short 79 minutes, has lots of good action, and a good sense of humor. What more could you ask for in an action movie. I don't know about you,but thats all I ask for in a action movie. Its not art and its not supposed to be. 3 out of 4 stars.
RoboCop 2 (1990)
A Decent Sequel To A Classic.
This movie has it good and bad points:
GOOD:Lots of action, Peter Weller is back, Robocop 2 looks awesome, some interesting ideas.
BAD:New score sucks compared to old one, Nancy Allen is given almost nothing to do, too many things happening at once, takes too long to introduce Robocop 2, Robocop absent for long periods of time, and he's blue!
Despite all the bad things, this movie really isn't that bad. It could have been a lot worse. They should have waited until Paul Verhoeven was free and let him direct like he wanted to. I guarantee it would have turned out a lot better! Still, it rates a 7 out of 10. Action fans will be happy. True fans of the original will be disapointed.
The Punisher (1989)
The Role Dolph Was Born To Play.
Aside from missing the trademark skull outfit, you can't deny that Dolph looks like the Punisher. This isn't supposed to be anything more than an action movie, and thats what makes it work. Sure, there are some pretty lame lines uttered, but when it comes to action, this movie delivers the goods. Production values are good and so is the score. If the X-Men movie had had this much action, maybe it wouldn't have been so boring and worthless.
RoboCop (1987)
The Prototype For The Perfect Action Movie.
Everything in this movie works perfectly! A good story, a blazing pace, a sense of humor, good performances, lots of action, and one of the best scores ever make this one of my all time favorite movies. Peter Weller's performance is great and Kurtwood Smith is one of the best villains ever! This was Paul Verhoeven's first and best American Movie. Made for only 13 million, it offers more bang for your buck than countless other huge budgeted movies. Watch it and see what I mean. The two sequels are alright, but can't even compare to this one. Many people want a fourth Robocop to be made, but why? They should have only made one in the first place! Either that or handled the sequels better. A true action classic that works on many other levels.
Commando (1985)
Arnold At His Best!
If your an Arnold fan, this is a must see movie! Sure, it doesn't have a huge budget or the best acting. But if you want non-stop action and a sense of humor that actually helps instead of hurts a movie, this is it! So over the top you know it can't be taken seriously, and that just adds to the enjoyment. Guaranted to please any action fan!
The Terminator (1984)
Still Holds Up Today.
Although the sequel is more popular, I believe they are about equal. With a budget of about 6.5 million, James Cameron created a non-stop thrill ride that still beats some action movies that cost twenty times as much. Arnold was born to play the role of The Terminator, one of the most famous villians in movie history. Biehn is good as the hero. Why he never became more famous is beyond me.
