A good story/writing, could have executed better.
19 February 2021
A sequel is not always expected highly, likewise, I didn't expect a good sequel here. Moreover, not all Jeetu Joseph movies are good, so my expectations were low.

Movie started with something being off, something was clearly missing. The execution wasn't going well even though story was going smooth. Some scenes were unnecessary and we can see that some explanations being given were not required at that moment and you can guess that it maybe important during the climax. Although the lead actors were doing a commendable job, the side roles like auto drivers, or common people around were really bad and that could have been avoided when the movie was being made in such a huge scale with spectacular production. In one word, the production value/quality was not upto the mark comparing to all Lijo Jose P movies, Ashiq Abu movies, Dilish Pothan movies, and recent Kumbalangi Nights etc.

It's brilliantly written. A good job by Jeetu Joseph for writing such a fresh non-inspired sequel to the alleged inspired first part. Good twists, even though you can guess few things because those scenes were not so necessary in some parts. The leads did great job. Feels like a bit stretched, could have been crisper.

Keeping all the downs a side, it's a worthy watch if you love the first part. Don't keep your expectations too high, because I felt something is off in execution of this brilliantly written story.

The same old action formula (+62%) - Movie review
30 April 2020
This is an English language movie, released in 2010 in India, directed by Pierre Morel, starring John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers in the leading roles.

Well, before all those brainless fast and furious franchise (Fast 5, 6, 7 and maybe 8), we had this action flick with almost similar formula. Here we see John Travolta and his side-kick Jonathan Rhys Meyers partnered to save the world from the terrorists. There is nothing much to say about the plot, even the twist in the end (again, the formula) can be easily predicted from the beginning itself. It's evident that John is not doing those ridiculous stunts by himself that you feel there should be a stuntman's name mentioned at the beginning of the movie.

I had been to this movie with an expectation from the director of Taken, a movie I enjoyed very much but here since I had expectations, I was disappointed miserably. But if you watch this movie without any expectations and leaving your brain for rest, then you actually might enjoy this flick.

Most of the time, the one-liners are the highlight of this kind of movie but here everyone was so lazy about writing and focused on just action. Even the editor is somewhat lazy that he chops some scenes shabbily.

I rate this a 58%.

WATCH IT if you are such an action junkie who can watch it as a brainless.

A beautiful GVM love story (+68%) - Movie review
30 April 2020
A simple love story told in a Goutham Menon style, with all ingredients of his usual recipe followed like a half spoon of Tanglish, half spoon of over the top romance, a pinch of romantic cringe, four spoons of dream song sequences, one-third spoon of length of the movie, a bit of heartbreak and two spoons of amazing locations.

Of course, this movie will have a cult following as well as financial success at the box office, critics, as well as viewers, will like this movie because it is fresh for its time. Good Alappuzha locations (Kudos to the cinematographer) and amazing music by the legendary AR Rahman.

Its a sweet emotional love-drama with heartbreaks and a different ending to the movie. Sometimes I feel the movie is dragged but in some places, I felt it is necessary.

Simbhu has done a good job where I had a different image of him before this movie which completely changed by now, and Trisha is the one who you should be looking forward to, she will remain in our mind with this image for a very long time, she was tremendous in this movie, GVM brought the best of her (Acting and looks).

Movie could have shortened and those usual GVM cringes could have edited out, which would have made this movie a classic for me, but still remains very close to a classic.

I rate this a 68%.

WATCH IT for a Goutham Menon style love story, as always there are emotions, love, heartbreaks but it also comes with a little bit of cringe.

A Guy Ritchie version (+70) - Movie review
30 April 2020
This review is strictly my point of view and many may not agree with me, I being a Guy Ritchie fan, I do admire most of the things he brings on screen, so keep that in your mind before my recommendation.

This version of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's characters, where the bromance of Doctor and Holmes continues with a stylish narration of Guy Ritchie. Guy Ritchie's narrative style is not for everyone, it contains a bit more of action and fantasy substances that will not be accepted openly by everyone.

People may feel that the action sequences are opposite of what the authentic characters possess, but what I felt is in this version Guy Ritchie tried to create the action sequences in such a way that it was mentally calculated and not just physical capacity of Sherlock Holmes.

The editing, camera, and the technical team of Guy Ritchie done a much-appreciated job that you will cherish the visuals, and a very supportive music by Hans Zimmer makes the experience much better.

And of course, you will enjoy Robert Downey Jr.'s charisma and also the chemistry between himself and Jude Law.

I rate this a 70%.

WATCH IT for a stylish version of Sherlock Holmes, especially if you like Guy Ritchie narration. SKIP IT if you have read all the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes books and expect justice to be done to these characters.

Its available to stream on Netflix, Disney Hotstar and HOOQ (As on April, 2020) with English subtitles.

A fun ride (+62%) - Short review
29 April 2020
This one is only for the hardcore 'Andaz Apna Apna' fans, this is a sub-genre of slapstick comedy and not for everyone. Raj Kumar Santhoshi is at it again, with witty quirky dialogues and situations, it is a fun ride but definitely not as fun as Andaz Apna Apan, this will not have such cult following.

The dialogues are very witty and also rhyming, with similar over-the-top performances that are required for this kind of movie. Foot-tapping music and good performances from all, especially Ranbir who can do wonders for any role. As usual, Katrina can't act or can overact, but surprisingly, this role suits her because this requires some overact.

I rate this 62%.

WATCH IT, only if you like Andaz Apna Apna or a hardcore Ranbir fan.

Its a Hindi language movie, and is available to stream on Amazon Prime (As on April, 2020) with English subtitles.

A sweet, witty typical Yograj Bhat love story (+67%) - Short movie review
29 April 2020
This was the time when the Yograj Bhat used to make witty simple movies that would touch our hearts, and this being one of them, I would like to see this Yograj Bhat-Pawan Kumar combination more often.

A simple, witty, and quirky movie with songs penned by the greats like Yograj Bhat himself, Pawan Kumar, and Jayant Kaikini. The combination was best, locals were simple, mesmerizing songs, a simple love story told in such a way that the viewers are glued to the seats without any thrilling elements being in the movie.

Good performances by then young actors like Digant and Aindrita (Now married in real life), also the supporting actors have done a tremendous job. The experience of Director Yograj Bhat was easily visible in all the scenes. A good camera work by Hegde capturing beautiful locals even in dream sequences.

I rate this 67%.

WATCH IT, with your family.

Original language is Kannada, and its available on streaming platform SunNXT (As on April, 2020) with English subtitles but to enjoy the movie you should be knowing Kannada so that you would understand the regional slang.

A refreshing tale (+70%) - Short movie review
29 April 2020
When I watched this in 2009, I still don't know why I had so much hatred towards this movie. Eventually, I must say that this movie become one of my favorite movies. It was a refreshing tale with commendable performances from each and every character. The mixture of friendship, romance, family, responsibilities was not something new for us but the simple narration made it one of the best combinations of above-said facts. Kudos to the debut director Ayan and also we can easily feel the production values of Dharma. Great music, which will be hummed by people for a very long time.

I rate this 70%, its refreshing, heartwarming.

WATCH IT. Its a Hindi language movie, available to stream on Netflix with English subtitles.

A wreck (+20) - Short movie review
29 April 2020
I must say, Dil bole watch She's the man again. It is a bad adaptation of Hollywood chick flick which was a fun time-pass movie. It was not worth adapting, whereas they did, horribly. Cliche and cringe are the two words which may explain this whole movie.

Of course, YRF made a lot of bad choices, and this is one of them.

Not worth explaining much, a movie about a girl who wants to be a cricketer who dresses up as a boy to be in the team is the plot of this movie. Direction was so poor that he could not bring the best of these great actors.

There is nothing to watch here, I watched this because I went for this when I was in college and the other option was 'What's Your Rashee', well, I think I made a good choice here because as a group of friends, we had a lot to troll in the hall.

I rate this 20%.

SKIP IT, pakka skip it. Its in Hindi language, and streaming on Amazon Prime (As on April, 2020) with English subtitles but don't bother.

Inspiring in lot of ways..!! Feel, Involve and Evolve in this beautiful journey..
10 August 2013
Its not just a joyous journey, its not any kind of normal trip, they are not seeking for "Music, Babes or Waves", they are on a purpose, and Sameer Tahir helps not only Kasi and Suni reach their purpose with some lessons, not only to them but also to us, the audience, to get inspired. and it also makes you experience the wonderful locations of our India just few days before Independence Day. Although that wasn't his intentions.

Its about two close friends, Kasi and Suni, going on a road trip in their Bullet from Kerala to Nagaland, with purpose of peace, motivation and Love. They meet different people, learn lot of things, but the question is whether they reach their aim..? Whether they find what came seeking all the way from Kerala..? Find it out with this inspirational journey under the Blue Sky..!!

Main credit goes to Sameer, Gireesh Gangadharan and Rex Vijayan for their perfect combination in making this as a perfect art on celluloid. Camera work by Gireesh in capturing beautiful locations from Kerala, Puri, Bamanghata (WB) and Nagaland.

Background music is perfect when the pleasant long rides, intense mugging and communal violence scenes and the romantic moments.

As we know, without a perfect direction, there is no perfect performances. And with that saying, we can say Sameer done his job right way as we see everyone performing perfectly (The main characters). As we know taking professional actors all the way in the road trip is a bit difficult job, here Sameer handles the amateur actors well who we meet in this journey.

As others in the movie, Dulquer Salmaan and Sunny Wayne bring about perfect combination of the previous Second Show even here. The close friends express, feel and value their friendship and make a strong bond as the journey goes on. Dulquer as usual at his best, he always been a wonderful actor in spite of looking best on screen. Sunny is a bit low on expression in some screens, still he done a Well-Done job. Dhritiman Chatterjee, a Bengali actor, in a small but a strong role, done his job to remain in our minds as we remember about the movie. Surja Bala Hijam and Ena Saha done their job up to the mark, there are still a part of amateur-ism we can sense in them.

There are some loopholes in the screenplay and story, some untold questions rise when we see the end credits coming. Like What happens to the Shyam's Killer whom Suni meets in an accident? What happens to Suni's love? and such few questions rises.

There are some inspirational messages to youth regarding family, love and life. This movie is not for the masses or families seeking entertainment with Masala. Its strictly for new generation youths and especially for those who love to roam and go on long trips.

On the whole its a visually beautifully captured art in celluloid trying to tell a Romantic Tale, with lots of inspirational messages. Its must watch for young couples and Road Trip lovers.

Go and experience this Lovely ride Under the Blue Sky, By the side of Green Sea, On the Red land.
