Significant Other (2022)
I Thought this Film was Perfect
It may seem strange to give a lower-budget movie a 10, but I literally found no flaws with this film. Acting was good, script was excellent. Cinematography was great. Scene direction: spot on. Interesting story that was not predictable, too. I am astonished that this movie does not have a higher score. I also agree with some others who claim there should also be a horror tag on this one. Oh, one more thing: length of film was perfect. Exactly what was necessary and not a minute more. My compliments to everyone involved with this production. I would highly recommend watching this film as a pleasant diversion or as someone interested in directing. Seriously.
No One Will Save You (2023)
This Was a Great Movie--How do I Know? I'm Still Talking About It.
Although I did not understand the ending on my own (I looked up the explanation online), this movie was well-filmed, well-acted, and I was totally engaged from second one until the very end. I was shocked to learn that it was considered a low-budget film. Further, I was fascinated by the lack of dialogue. The only reason I'm knocking off a star is for the ending. It is hard to make a perfect movie, and this one wasn't perfect, but it really got close.
After the movie, my husband and I discussed it a bit. Now, it is two days later, and my son and I had quite a conversation about it. Some movies are so easy to forget. This one is not one of them.
Goodnight Mommy (2022)
Yes, I had it figured out early, but still...
This was a good one. I did not watch the original, but I found this to be engaging. Another poster said he/she figured out what the deal was one hour into the film. I think I am the same as that reviewer. But who cares? It was still a good, solid film, and my whole (three generational) family enjoyed our viewing. I actually liked it well enough that I would have liked to see more. I would like to know more of the backstory. What was I really supposed to take from this? I have my theories, but I would love to know what the screenwriter had in mind. Anyway, I did not see the original, but I would really recommend this to those who like thrillers. :-)
Aftermath (2021)
Yes, it is a B movie, but...
My three-generational family all found this film to be entertaining. We were engaged from beginning to end. Is it a masterpiece? Of course not. Do all movies need to be? Of course not. We were engaged. That's what we want from a movie. I think there may have been some plot holes, but who cares? It was still entertaining. I did not know what was happening until the reveal at the end, which is always a good thing. People who give 1 star ratings are just negative people, and unfortunately, there are way too many of them on IMDB. There are way too many of them everywhere on social media, for that matter. This was a very decent film. You should give it a try.
Andið eðlilega (2018)
Nearly Perfect
The first time I watched this movie was on a plane to Iceland. I loved it so much that I decided I wanted to own it. After we landed, we saw many of the sites shown in the movie, which was cool. I have watched the film one more time since being back home, and I was just thinking about it again today. That is how good this movie is. I'm looking forward to my next viewing.
Monstrous (2022)
Some People Just Don't Understand This Movie
I don't want to be rude, but the low ratings on here are from people who just don't get it. My husband was one of them. My son and I had to explain things. If you don't pay attention to details, you won't understand the premise. There is a nice twist, beautiful visuals, and the story is unique, which is hard to come by with so much media today. This film was definitely worth our time tonight. Two thumbs up.
Beckett (2021)
I don't know why this film has such low reviews.
My family and I stayed engaged throughout the film, and it had a satisfying ending. My husband and I recently returned from a trip to Italy and Greece, and it was nice to be transported back to that region for a short time, as well. Anyway, my husband, my son, and I all enjoyed this film, and chances are, you will too.
The Rachel Divide (2018)
My Opinion of this Woman Completely Changed
This was a great documentary. When the story came out years ago, of course I thought Rachel had done something truly abominable, but this documentary allowed me to see the transformation from her perspective, and it made sense. I could say so much more, but I'll just leave it at that. The documentary speaks for itself, and it really kept my attention.
Separation (2021)
This was a really cool flick.
I thoroughly enjoyed this film, and I am shocked by the low rating. The "creatures" and artwork are incredible, and I loved how we could see the creatures clearly, early on. There was a mystery to the story, and I think things could have been fleshed out a little more completely, but all-in-all, I was very interested throughout the film (and so was my son who often gets bored quickly). I hope this film starts to get the credit it deserves. The dad was likable too. Not a lech like we see in so many media examples. Give it a try.
Andra sidan (2020)
Okay, seriously, people who said this is boring must be very boring people
I thoroughly read the reviews before deciding to give this title a try. My 29-year-old son loves horror. It is his favorite genre. My husband doesn't like it as much as I do, but neither of us are true horror fans. However, all three of us sat down to watch this movie, and we all made it to the end. My son often leaves early during a film. He stayed for the whole thing. Why? Because this film was interesting and engaging. It also had a satisfying ending. If you don't mind reading subtitles, I would recommend this film. It was a good story, had some creep-appeal, great cinematography, good acting. All-around decent flick. Seriously.
Station Eleven (2021)
I watched it twice and also re-read the book...
My husband and I loved this series. I had read the book back in 2016, and I liked it, but this script added soooo much to the original story. Amazingly well-done. I had to go back and re-read the book to see how much was changed from Emily St. John Mandel's version, and I am not the sort of person who usually re-reads a book, so that shows how captivated I was by this story. When I watched a second time, I picked up on a few cool details I did not notice the first time. I would recommend this series. We were really invested and cared about the characters.
Feria: La luz más oscura (2022)
Kept My Interest
At least half the time, i try a series on Netflix and just sort of forget about it because I am not engaged. For some reason, with this one, I kept watching. I wanted to understand what was happening.
My main criticism is all the graphic and unnecessary nudity. The filmmakers could have told the same story, and we could have known people were naked without seeing all that. I mean, was the idea to show as many different kinds of breasts as possible? Ridiculous. But because I stayed interested in the plot, and watched it to the end, this series deserves a better rating than what most on here have given it.
Fear of Rain (2021)
I don't understand the low ratings
I enjoyed this movie, and it kept my interest throughout. My son picked up on one of the twists of the movie fairly early, but that did not matter. Still an interesting film that was well-shot and well-acted. I'm happy we gave it a try.
2067 (2020)
Excellent Plot and Kept my Interest
This is not a high budget movie, but with that in mind, I'm amazed at what a good job the movie makers did in producing it. My husband and I were engaged with the story throughout, and we found the plot to be ultimately satisfying. I don't usually write reviews on IMDB, but I really feel the rating this is receiving right now is way too low (4.9). If you are not a complete movie snob, this one is worth your time when you just want to chill.
The Interior (2015)
I loved this film!
I have to say, I watch a lot of horror/thrillers (though not the "murdery" kind, and I haven't been this scared by a movie in a long time. I was absolutely riveted throughout the forest scene and often found myself squinting or holding my fingers in front of my eyes because some of the moments were so tense, and I didn't know what was going to happen. Trevor Juras, who both wrote and directed the film, did an excellent job of scaring me without showing me what the terror was. That is the best kind of writing. The actors he chose for this film were completely convincing and excellent. And lastly, I just want to say that I could really relate to the protagonist and feel what it was like to be in his position. Believe me, that is NOT a position I ever want to be in, which made the film all the more tense. And, although some viewers felt the ending was ambiguous, I thought it made perfect sense. There may be some room for interpretation, but I was able to make my own interpretation quite easily. Not sure if that's what Juras was going for, but it felt like enough of a resolution for me, and he still didn't set us free of the tension by showing us exactly what or who we should be afraid of. I hope Juras keeps making movies this well. I'll be on the lookout for his next project because I am truly impressed with this debut feature.
A Ghost Story (2017)
A Ghost Story was so Good, I Bought it!
To me, this movie was so great, I immediately decided that I had to own it. Yes, it is slow during the first part of the film. There's a scene where you watch a woman eat an entire pie in real time. But doesn't that only add to the art of the film? In the end, the story has real meaning...deep meaning. It's a very unique tale that is done well. I loved the portrayal of what it might be like when we die but aren't quite finished with something on planet Earth so cannot move on to the next part of our journey. Also, there are is a surprising twist. Fantastic film!
Vivarium (2019)
This movie is excellent.
I am shocked at some of the low ratings I'm seeing here, so I had to put in my two cents. This film is brilliant, engaging, interesting, unique, and well-produced. Oh, I should also mention thought-provoking. If you didn't like this film, you must not like speculative fiction. And if you don't like speculative fiction, why would you watch a movie like this? If you do like speculative fiction, trust me....watch this one. You won't be disappointed.
A Secret Love (2020)
Pretty Much Perfect
This film was engaging from the get-go and stayed good throughout. I got goosebumps many times, and my husband cried a lot. A beautiful story that kept us so interested from beginning to end.
The Danger of Positive Thinking (2018)
Sophomoric But Actually Keeps Your Attention
Okay, so it's not a high-budget film. The casting isn't great, and the acting isn't too much better. But imagine if you tried to put a movie together. It would suck, right? This one keeps your attention at least. Effort was put into it, and the film keeps your attention throughout. It really does. And that's saying a lot, actually.
Wildling (2018)
7 1/2 actually
My husband and I really enjoyed this film. I have nothing bad to say about it. I mean, is it Academy Award level? No. But still...it was a very engaging, enjoyable film from beginning to end. Good job to the director, actors, and screenplay writer. Excellent for a night's diversion, for sure.
