I am now living in Fort Worth, Texas.
I got my first computer in 1978. I set up a computer bulletin board system (BBS) in 1982. I wrote the BBS program in BASIC for it. You had to dial in at 300 baud with a telephone line.
A national magazine, "Link-Up," picked my BBS as one of the ten best sites. I was blogging before the word blog had been invented. People think the first blog was conceived in 1995. They are wrong I was doing it in 1982.
When the rest of the world got around to inventing the world wide web, I moved my BBS to the internet. Yes, I have been online for over 38 years.
You have found one of the very first online sites!

I was doing this before Google (1998), before YouTube (2005), Yahoo (1994) and all the rest of them.
You have found one of the fathers of all this that we enjoy so much.
Welcome and enjoy and hang out with Jim Howard. He has been waiting for you.
One of the first online sites, one of the first blogs and one of the first webcam sites.
Welcome to Howard's Notebook

The Hoodlum Priest (1961)
Hard to review a movie so old
I am 75 years of age and I remember seeing the movie sometime when it came to TV. It was not my sort of movie then or now. I could not recommend this movie to anyone today.
I do think however that Don Murray, as Father Clark, did some great acting in this movie.
I started my freshman year at a Catholic high school, De La Salle Military Academy, in 1955. The entire first week was a Catholic retreat (religion). I can not remember now if Father Clark did one day of the retreat or the entire week. I seem to think he did the entire week.
I was 14 years old and a Catholic and had gone to only Catholic schools. I had never heard of Father Clark.
As soon as I saw and heard Father Clark I was thinking this guy is crazy. I was thinking why are the Christian Brothers allowing a crazy man to be around a bunch of kids?
Later they had confession and I was sent into a room, alone, with Father Clark to hear my confession. He grabbed me and started to wail or say something about it will be OK or something like that. I did the confession thing and got the hell out of there.
I think the movie got a lot correct about Father Clark. But if they had shown the real Father Clark it would have been a much different movie and I do not think it would have been shown.
But if you want to get a little bit of an idea about what Father Clark was like then the movie and Don Murray do a pretty good job of it.
Clara Hakedosha (1996)
Saint Clara aka Clara Hakedosha
I enjoyed this movie very much. I did not understand much of the movie. I am not sure if this is the way kids act in Israel and if that is the way the education system works or not. I saw the movie on TV with the name of "Saint Clara".
I enjoyed the movie and the love story and the interesting weird people in the movie. It made me wonder about some of the things that were said during the movie. I guess the same way people outside of the U. S. must wonder about things said and done in American movies.
Watching this I was thinking about the movie "Tin Drum" (Die Blechtrommel) and wishing there was someone watching it with me that after the movie was over could tell me what in the hell it was all about.
Maybe it is better sometimes to NOT know what the author or director was trying to say...Because I did enjoy the movie and hope to see it again on TV.
Judgment (2001)
I Pray that God protect us from movies like this one.
This movie is so bad that it may make the list of worst movies of all time. The world has a one world goverment led by the devil. The hero of the movie is put on trail for "hatred of the human race." Nothing rings true in the movie. It all seems so dumb that you wonder why anyone would have any part in the movie. There is no real story, no one can act plus it has Mr. T in the movie. That should tell you the type of actors the movie has in it.
You can thank God that there is not a one world government and that I am not the leader. If I were the leader and you liked this movie I would put you on trail for hatred of movies (and art).
You will see some born again members of the God squad give this a review with five stars. If you rent or buy this movie try not to curse.
There are excellent movies out there about God and religion. This is not one of them. Pray that we are not subject to many more movies like this.
The Challengers (1991)
Another great film from Canada - rated sweet
I hate to admit that I like this movie. It is sweet, good, clean with no bad people and a story to tell..and something for us to all learn. A great movie for kids (I am 60 by the way.) A girl's father dies and she misses him a great deal. She pretends to be a boy to join a band.
Gema Zamprogna plays Macki/Mac and does an excellent job. She seems so real and you don't feel that she is acting. All the kids in the movie seem to be very real to life. Gema was born in 1976 and the movie is listed as a 1989 TV movie. She seems younger in the movie.
It seems that Canada turns out some excellent movies. I am not sure if government support of the arts has something to do with it or if they just try harder.
Some movies make you feel good about life and about kids and this is one of them. Other movies are; "My Dog Skip", "The Mighty", "Bruno" and "ma Vie En Rose" and many others. If you have not seen "The Challengers" watch it with your kids or grand children. Feel good.
