White Collar (2009)
Enjoyable
This show can be very entertaining if you know what you are in for.
Pros: It is fast-paced, light-hearted, doesn't take itself too seriously and has struck gold with the chemistry of the cast. The camaraderie is believable, fun, and essentially the vehicle that carries the entire show. Characters of Peter and Mozzie are well-written. Acting remains consistent.
Cons: The plot often has big holes and the characters of Neal and Mozzie have a highly unlikely set of skills and knowledge sometimes to a ridiculous extent. The trust issues between the leads do drag a bit. Lastly, villains are often a caricature.
The show isn't pretending to be anything more than it is. And it is feel-good, and totally rewatchable.
Line of Duty (2012)
Crime drama done right
Line of duty is everything a crime drama should be. The pace is amazing (the right amount of action, enough time to empathise with the characters and also police procedures depicted accurately). The cinematography is beautiful, perfect backdrop for a drama on police corruption in Britain. Plot is thick and unravels slowly but to maximum effect. In every series first couple of episodes are rather flat introducing the audience as well as the leads to the main story and then it quickly goes uphill! The blurred lines between wrong and right and the lack of absolutes (no character is 100% good or 100% bad) is a bonus that allowed for some more far-fetched choices in the storyline without compromising the plausibility of the events. Finally, the characters are all well-written, often relatable, with depth and nuance. They are not polished and sometimes may even come off as unlikeable but eventually they have the audience rooting for them(myself included). That goes down to acting which is spot-on by both the leads as well as the supporting actors who are very well chosen in every series.
Currently looking forward to the series 6 finale!
All in all an infinitely entertaining crime drama!
