Canada's Next Top Model (2006)
Much better than ANTM
Right now, as February 2009, I feel like America's Next Top Model is running out of ideas. I'm getting sick of fake Tyra Banks and mediocre elimination kicking off some good contestant. Usually, you don't have this on Canada's Next Top Model. I feel like the real modeling part of the show is way more serious. The judges are actually genuinely critical, and professional. I prefer much more Jay Manuel (He's so cute) because it seems like he cares more about the girls. If I stop comparing it to ANTM, CNTM brings a new fresh face of reality T.V. Yes there ARE cat fights, but the entertainment is not all about it. The photo shoots are so cool, the photographers are much more featured and the panel session shows much more natural talents! Way to go CNTM!
The X Files: I Want to Believe (2008)
Wasn't bad...!
I never watched X-Files, and I seriously don't like SC-FIC that much. I decided to see this movie with a friend of mine only because my job allows me to see all the movies in theaters for free. So I went there and missed the first few minutes of the movie. I quickly fell into what I call ''Instant Movie Fever''. I couldn't take my eyes off of the screen because the ambiance of the movie was so good! I think that the X-Files fans might get tired of the little theme music, but it really got all my attention! I like simple movies, of every genre. I liked the suspense, every scene including the old man whose nose was bleeding, because it looked so mysterious. On the other side, I did not like the ending that much. Killing off a cop like they did was just blah. They focused on the character development a little too much for me. Anyway, I don't think everybody could appreciate this movie as I did.
Blindness (2008)
Striking!
I absolutely LOVED this movie. I loved about every single thing of it. The continuity itself wasn't THAT entertaining, but when you think about what the movie wants to teach you (if you followed the story carefully) you can understand many social problematics of today. I'm no Julianne Moore fan, but I think she did really great in Blindness. It's a very simple movie, and usually those are the best. One thing I appreciated a lot of this movie, was it's soundtrack. I know a lot of people disliked the ending, especially the last 40 minutes, because it lacked of action. The problem is, I think, that people expect it to be a drama with a lot of action (all the trailer's fault) so when you are waiting for action and nothing comes out, you may be disappointed. I definitively think that this movie belongs to those who likes to observe and analyze a critical social situation. The whole concept of a world where nobody can see is great, not very realistic but it brings up the idea of how it could be IF. It made me realize how much people can be selfish and dominator. Anyway, I gave it a 10, because there's absolutely nothing I disliked from this movie.
Heartstopper (2006)
This is the movie of an unexperienced director
This was seriously a bad movie. I didn't get the whole story....I don't even think it made any, any sense, especially with the tornado at the end. Acting was bad, story was bad, gore was bad, just PLAIN BAD. It's another of those movies you dislike for not being what you truly expected, and it's because of these movies that people think that the horror genre is trash. I gave it a 3/10, because it was at least a little bit entertaining and it had a few funny moments. Overall, the cast was good looking, but the continuity of the movie sucked! If you have an afternoon to loose, watch this movie and I will guarantee you will regret it!
Black Christmas (2006)
Insult to the original
For a remake, that was too bad. Black Christmas 1974 was a master piece while the 2006 version is fulfilled with gore and lack on the suspense. Correction, there's NO suspense, no action. Just a series of murders happening every 5 minutes. Let's not talk about the dialogs, that was lame too. BUT I still enjoyed this movie. The actresses did a good job, especially Michelle Trachtenberg and Kristen Cloke. The ''twist'' at the end was very lame, I was expecting this movie to be scary, suspenseful, and to give TRUE homages to the original. The deaths in the movie were mostly like, identical. Bref this movie was not as great as I expected, but we had to await that from the gore masters, Glen Morgan and James Wong, of course.
Wrong Turn 2: Dead End (2007)
Master 'Gory' Piece
Okay you'll tell me ''What ? A straight to video gory SEQUEL!?!?'' If you tell me Wrong Turn 2, I'll tell you YES. That was AWESOME. The gory part may be disturbing for some people, but the action makes the whole movie. Wrong Turn 2 kills off all the stereotypes, final girls. It's different, brilliant. The whole suspense is based on the surviving of the characters. You think that Mara, the shy supposed protagonist girl will survive but NO she ends axed in the head at the first 1/4 of the movie, while Nina, the goth, bitchy girl survives, along with Jake, the black jock. I really want to make the point on the action. Fight, blood, suspense, you got it. The inbreeds pops out of no-where, anywhere and whenever. The characters are well developed, all with different personalities. For a sequel, well, the only things we get back from Wrong Turn 2003 are Three-Fingers, more insane than ever and the old timer. Nothing very special on this part but still, Wrong Turn 2 is WAY BETTER than Wrong Turn and it made my day !
