Project Moon Base (1953)
PROJECT MOON-PIE IN YOUR EYE!
Ahhhh the wonderful 1950 SCI FI films.! Yes the special effects are su b-par and yes the Dialog is corny but where else can you watch Astronauts boarding their rocket for " Blast-off" wearing shorts! The best part is watching beautiful Donna Martell with her beautiful legs going to the moon wearing what looks like Hot Pants with NO helmet or any devices to protect her and her crew going into Space!! And with lines like,, " NO thank you Major, I'm perfectly capable of getting into the Rocket myself!" HOW can you not love this movie!??!
Remember it's 1953 NOT 2023 And Space travel was just beginning to " take-off"! This movie should just be enjoyed for what it is a fun romp to the moon where our Astronauts do not need helmets or any breathing apparatus to reach their goal! The models used are pretty good and overall it's a fun movie that moves along decently enough! So sit back grab some popcorn n enjoy!!!
Fiend Without a Face (1958)
NO BRAINS, NO SPINE! GREAT FILM!
Wow!! How can anyone rate this fun, scary( 4 it's time) & thrilling film below a 9 is beyond me( or below)! A solid cast with Marshall Thompson, Terence Kilburn( still with us at 98!!), Kingston Reeves and the very sexy & beautiful Kim Parker! A great state of the art monster( again for its time), the slurping sounds the " brain w/spine makes as it crawls n kills its victims is just pure Gruesome!! As a nine year old watching this in 1959 , it had me hiding under my bed covers and telling myself I never want to be A brain surgeon!! The overall acting is quite good and Criterion's remaster is also quite good! It would be great if this ever got a 4K UPGRADE with a more detailed " making of" in special features maybe Criterion will reissue a newer special edition someday soon!
Thought-control monsters powered by Atomic Energy, creepy, no Giant Ants or spiders or Dinosaurs awaken by an Atomic blast just reanimated brains with spinal cord attached to choke you to death and its quite good for 1958!!
Love sexy Kim Parker wish she did more 50's SCI FI, I Put her right with Mara Corday & Lisa Montel!!
I highly recommend this film to all lovers of 50's & 60's SCI FI films a great addition to anyone's movie collection!!
It Conquered the World (1956)
IT CONQUERED.....ALMOST!
Everyone is entitled to their opinion for everyone's tastes are different. This 1956 SCI FI film has always been a favorite of mine seeing it in the 50's as a young kid B4 all those fancy CGI effects and yes the monster is cheesy by today's. Standards but it has its own personal charm. A misguided scientist thinks an alien from Venus will SAVE mankind not realizing it only wants to conquer the Earth. The story is simple and I enjoy the pacing of the film, love Beverly Garland and Peter Graves they do the best they can on a limited script. Maybe those who also grew up in the 50's can appreciate this film more than those born in the Star Wars time. I just hope it will get a good BLU RAY release so I can enjoy viewing it even better. Enjoy it for what it is, a 1956 SCI FI film with decent acting and a fun film that takes you back to a simpler time!!
Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Royale (1989)
" We call it EARTH, what do you call it?"
As Mr. SPOCK would say," Facinating".. one of MY favorite episodes that has humor, drama, mystery and adventure! Riker, Data and Worf beam down to what their sensors indicate a most uni habitable. Planet. HOTEL Royale where exists a casino with patrons who do not exist on their tricorders. It stars NOBLE WILLINGHAM who starred on Texas Walker and adds humor and.fun as he tries his best to pick up a beautiful woman. Struggling to. Play blackjack. I love the interaction between the characters. And DATA paying blackjack while the team tries to solve the mystery. Of HOTEL Royale. An enjoyable episode and for me worth watching!!
The Monster of Piedras Blancas (1959)
HEADS UP! The Monster is after yours!
Those who rip this 1959 little almost unknown Creature feature, seem to either forget it was made in 1959 not 2009 and did not grow up in the 1950's where TV was still pretty new! For what it is, in my humble opinion, it's not bad at all..Here lies a lighthouse keeper feeding a monster so he won't kill his beautiful daughter or any town folk, and things don't go so well when he has to change his food source. Good atmosphere. And decent acting with the special effects being pretty decent for 1959. A sleepy coastal town adds atmosphere and suspense. And if you have a love of d SCI FI films, I think you will enjoy this one! The Blu Ray is awesome, like it was. Made yesterday. So grab some popcorn 🍿 😋 and turn down the lights and Enjoy!!
Riders to the Stars (1954)
Just the Right Stuff...Oops STARS!
Being a big fan of Richard Carlson from
" It Came From Outer Space" & " THE creature from the Black Lagoon" I had to see this film and add it to my collection! The 2nd of Ivan Tors OSI Trilogy, he attempts to show man's first flight into space. To collect a meteor(s).
Yes the special effects are no Star Wars., but it is 1954 I found it interesting and I hope like the two other OSI tales, THE Magnetic Monster and GOG" , it gets a decent DVD/ BLU RAY release! Though Ivan Tors tried to make it a serious scientific film with no alien monsters, the science is a bit " shakey". Still I enjoyed it and. It's a decent film just not to be taken seriously but to just enjoy with a bowl of popcorn and a coke! It's now 2021 and I still hope for a DVD/BLU RAY release!!
The Thing from Another World (1951)
North to Alaska, the place to be!
Truly one of the BEST Sci Fi Films ever made! Right up there with THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL ,& FORBIDDEN PLANET! Remember made in 1951 NOT 2001! Special effects are minimal , it's the story, the cast and the great atmosphere that makes 👌 this movie 🎬 so great!! Taking place in the Artic, cold and isolated a small crew of military men and some. Scientists, investigate the landing of an unknown aircraft which skins turns out to be a flying saucers! This movie has great atmosphere and the inter-action between the actors makes for a fast paced and thrilling film. Finally on Blu Ray, a true classic and a great addition to any true Sci Fi lover, this film will not disappoint you just grab some popcorn, turn down the lights and be ready for a well produced thriller made way back in 1951!!!
The Giant Claw (1957)
The Giant Claw....not a Turkey...
1957 a slew of low budget Sci Fi Films were released and THE GIANT CLAW was one of them. Starring two of my favorite.actors, Jeff Morrow & Mara Corday, and yes the monster is below par and laughable but this film remains one of my favorites. It moves along quite well and I find the main characters most convincing in their roles. If only Sam Katzman took a little more time and spent a little more money and really created a believable creature this could of been a much greater film. But it's 1957 and films were made quick and cheap and you just need to sit back and enjoy it for what it is. Now on BLU RAY and the picture is much cleaner but sadly no improvement to our GIANT bird!
I still love it. AND SADLY ONLY beautiful Mara Corday is still with us from the cast. So sit back and enjoy!!
This Island Earth (1955)
THIS WONDERFUL EARTH!.day
Escaping back to 1955 to a simpler time of Spaceships, Aliens and thrilling stories that held this 8 year Olds attention like glue on a stick, THIS ISLAND EARTH has to this. Day remained one of my favorite SCI FI films. I love the beginning, the eerie music and a scan of Washington DC that made the world seem " SAFE & GOOD" as quoted by Richard Carlson in " THE MAGNETIC MONSTER"! Yes this movie for me was a great adventure and Metaluna was a cool planet in 1955!! I found this movie to be alot of fun, the acting convinced and the cast all did a very decent job. The blu ray is a welcome addition and I highly recommend this one for an enjoyable hour and a half!!
Invasion, U.S.A. (1952)
INVASION INDEED!
I first saw this film when I was 7 years old in the 1950's and at that time it scared 😱 the heck outta me! I WAS living in a time of threats of nuclear war and I really thought we were going to be attacked! Plus this film had my two favorite. LOIS LANE's in it, Noel Neille & Phyllis Coates!! I have watched this movie many times and so happy it finally got a decent DVD release! Sure the story is filled with many errors but to me that is part of its charm! To this day we STILL live under the fear of a Nuclear attack and I pray it never happens. In the meantime, check this fun film out just remember it was made in 1952 so don't expect great special effects!! Now I think I'll to watch it again!!😇😇😁
Attack of the Crab Monsters (1957)
In This Case, it's OK to be CRABBY!!
Ahhhh yes, ATTACK OF THE CRAB MONSTERS, truly in my eyes one of the best Classic Sci Fi films 🎥 🎞 of the 50's!! As a baby boomer I grew up on Giant spiders, Giant. Ants and Crabs 🦀 and I couldn't be happier!! Love this movie as it brings back alot of great memories. Sadly the main cast now have all passed away and yet they feel like family to me since I've seen this movie over 50 times! Yes I highly recommend this movie for a fun evening in a simpler time.great Atmosphere and the actors ay it seriously which only makes it more fun! So grab some popcorn , turn out the lights and enjoy a classic SCI FI from 1957!
The Trollenberg Terror (1958)
Still crawling after all these years!
I am a HUGH 50'S SCI FI 💘lov-R...and this Lil Gem is one of my favorites. Growing up in the 50's long Before CGI effects and this being in black & white only adds to the atmosphere and.thrill to this film. I have also loved the beautiful Janet Munro she is just an incredible actress who left us far too.soon!! Hope someday they will remaster this to blue ray and I would love to see a " making of" feature!!
The Uninvited (1944)
An Invite to be scared of the Uninvited
Here lies, in my humble opinion, one of the very best Ghost Stories of all time. A most atmospheric, eerie, and well scripted with a cast Supreme and being in black and
white only increases its atmosphere.
Ray Milland & Ruth Hussey head up a grand cast that includes Donald Crisp, Alan Napier( Batman's butler) , Cornelia Otis Skinner And the most lovely and shy, GAIL RUSSELL who died far too young!!( tragic death)
I love this movie because it doesn't contain blood stains everywhere, hacked up corpses, no it scare factor is from your OWN imagination!! THE UNINVITED is a solid scary movie without blood &,guts and the acting is top notch!! Being in Black & White only increases the Atmosphere and this movie is best served on a dark rainy nite with the only lights being those of your TV.! Criterion's BLU RAY is stellar!!
Sooo grab some popcorn n sit back and enjoy this 1944 ghost story gem!!
When Worlds Collide (1951)
70 years ago .A classic film was Born!
When worlds Collide is a SCI FI film I never tire watching. I must of seen it over 50 times and For me its one of the best SCI FI films to come out of the 1950's!....I own it on DVD and I HOPE it will get a US BLUE RAY RELEASE Truely remastered by either CRITERION or ARROW or even KINO AND at a price that is AFFORDABLE- LESS than $25!!
The Monolith Monsters (1957)
THIS MOVIE ROCKS!!
Growing up in the 50's And watching the Many SCI FI films of that Decade, Monolithic Monsters always held a special place in my heart. So differant from the " BUG" monster movies, I love the atmosphere and I found the actors to be very convincing as well. I Grew up in a town similar to San Angelo making for me the film more realistic than ever. No computers, cell phones, laptops, just a simple life filled with antique cars and a switchboard operator!! This movie takes me back to my childhood, exploring creeks and finding " strange looking rocks" that I would take home and pretend they were meteors from space. Yes, I love this movie and with a little imagination, I'm sure you will too!!
The Deadly Mantis (1957)
A Decent Deadly Gem from the 50's
Yes, the wonderful SCI FI Thrillers of the 50's this one beginning with its military stock footage showing us how we are " protected" by RADAR, THE DEW LINE, etc... and as WW2 was not too far past,, you feel so SAFE knowing our Military is out there protecting us from our enemies .but a new and MORE deadly one awaits!! The DEADLY MANTIS!!! Say what you will about this film, but growing up in the 50's I felt only our great military could deal with this inhuman menace!! The blu ray is a nice improvement and I'm happy to see alot of my childhood favorites are now on Blu Ray.
The pacing is good and The actors all do a decent job ..due to the budget and special effects they had at the time.
Check. It out for those who love 1950's SCI FI films. It IS quite enjoyable!!
