The Boss Baby (2017)
This movie is annoying and somewhat disturbing
I do not know what happened to Dreamworks in the last quarter of the 2010s, but they can just pump out so much garbage quickly for money and it will keep selling, I will explain the plot quickly here, since this movie has a lot of issues.
So this movie starts with the main character Tim, who is a boy who has a big imagination, and I like the stylistic choices they go for in these scenes, and throughout the movie, but it goes downhill here.
Still only going for the important bits, now we get our first rear end shot in the film, and I will mention this in detail later, since it's disturbing to see heavily shown with babies in a kids film, and here is where babies are made while an actually good sounding soundtrack plays, IDK I just like the 1960s-1970s style to the film, and here the Boss Baby is introduced, and since he failed the tickle test, he goes to management or something IDK.
Now we find out that Tim is going to have a brother, and it is as underwhelming as you think, since Tim hates the idea of this since he wants all of the attention possible.
Skipping past another rear end shot this time in the bathtub and Tim trying to hide his... Well you can tell since he is also in the bath, we now get the Boss Baby getting his voice, since he is an adult in an infants body, and the first bit of toilet humor apart from the shots of baby's rears happens judging by what he says when he was surprised, and here comes what the marketing was talking about, a famous person playing a baby who is also capable of doing things adults can, and it is underwhelming, again.
Now there are like other baby characters in the film who serve almost no purpose in the film other than toys and posters, moving on.
And now another creepy joke, about sucking on a pacifier, but as someone who likes adult jokes, it's creepy since it's an infant and a baby who are involved in it.
Moving past the introduction of Baby Corp., we now find out about the formula that allows babies to have the brain of an adult, and now after our first fart joke in the movie with a close up rear, like I thought this died years ago, we get some plot elements about the clearly evil guy, we will skip to the end, since nothing of matter happens afterwards.
We get to the rocket to produce dogs that last forever or something, and the Boss Baby keeps turning into a Normal Baby and has to be reverted to the Boss Baby, and Tim fixes the situation and ends Puppy Co. And their evil plan, and the parents are given amnesia since we need the status quo, and the end, cue happy ending.
Now firstly, the message, since Dreamworks this last quarter are known for crappy messages (Looking at you Trolls...), this message is surprisingly ok, all we see is "Cherrish what you have, and you cannot have all of the attention in the world", which is good message for kids, but thats my assumption, since there is seemingly no message in the film, which is ok since these movies don't need messages, then the casting and music, the casting is based on popularity, and the music is meh, execpt the 1960s styled ones, I like those a lot.
Now the jokes, they are generic toilet, kids, sometimes Facebook boomer mom, and sometimes adult jokes, the typical generic ones, but most of them are more disturbing than funny, like the ones I have mentioned, but the constant rear ends shown is disturbing, since these show up constantly and sometimes shown in great detail, and its oddly in the style of what a creep would like, and that is concerning since creeps could use this film to fufill their creepy child desires, and it is scary.
Overall, you probably would not want kids watching this, it is absolutely filled with nothingness, and not worth watching, even on those free sites, Dreamworks has seemingly turned into a wannabe Illumination, and we should not give money to that, so we should stick to classic Disney, or PBS Kids.
Trolls (2016)
This is concerning
I am not one to make angry reviews, but this one is concerning, as someone who has dealt with kids, this movie should not even exist to begin with.
First off, the story is very much one-dimensional, the 2 sides are the Trolls (The "heroes" since they are always happy), and the Bergens (The "evil" ones since they are always sad), they both fight since the latter tries to eat the former to be happy, very much a weird start.
So it starts with two Trolls, Poppy who is the stereotypical overly happy lead, and Branch who is the one that is stereotypically sad and angry, and they are clearly the ones who will be in a relationship at the end, and all the other Trolls are here to have a huge party, and the Bergens find them and take some away to eat them, yes I know I'm skipping a lot, but I am only going through these plot points because they are important, so then Poppy goes to find the Trolls that were stolen, and Branch eventually joins I think I barely remember anything despite the millions of times I have watched it, then about maybe 45 something minutes in and they make it to the Bergen's castle place to confront the King and stop the consumption of Trolls, later they found out they got caught and then put in a cooking pot, then they start losing colour from sadness, this would be a good time to end the movie, but it keeps going, then the girl Bergen saves them and the Trolls later have the 700th dance sequence and it ends.
Sorry that I missed so much, I only wanted to get the important beats (Quite literally story BEATS, since this is a musical...) out of the way.
So that's the "plot", so first things first, the message, and this is why this is concerning, the message is that you should quote "only be happy", I know a lot of parents would say that the message is that "you should feel happy to feel better", but I am not buying that, the message is clearly the propaganda type of "you MUST be happy and ONLY happy", and that goes against the positive messages of things like Inside Out, Hamtaro, and Sesame Street, and I cannot imagine the damage that this movie could do to children, since with the humor, and the colour choices clearly tell me that this is for toddlers.
Now, the humor, it's what you'd expect, fast paced, sometimes bait and switch, and toilet humor, like there is a glittery Troll who deficates glitter or something, and that was a point in the first musical number in the movie.
Finally the music and casting, the music is basic pop songs, some of which I like, but I have to admit it is the most generic choices ever, and they throw these musical numbers every few minutes, and it is annoying, and about the casting, its the generic Illumination style of casting based off of popularity and not based on how good an actor could be for a character, that' all.
Overall, dont' expose your kids to this, just watch stuff like the examples of what I consider Trolls to go against in messaging, and other stuff with good morals, and always watch first on your own to make sure the content is right for your kids if you have them.
Gekijô-ban poketto monsutâ: Adobansu jenerêshon pokemon renjâ to umi no ôji manafi (2006)
One of the better movies I have watched as of writing.
I really like this series, and have started collecting DVDs and VHS tapes of the series, and I decided to watch this a bit after getting it.
I like the music in the film, and the artwork including the CGI bits look great, and even though it takes about 30 minutes or so to reveal the main focus of the film, Manaphy, I feel like the amount of time taken was acceptable, as it built up suspense for me, and even though the main plot was basic, involving the Pokemon Rangers having to protect the Pokemon and prevent a pirate guy I forgot the name of from stealing the Manaphy Egg, and a thing about the sea temple, but ultimately, I didn't find it that bad, and I think one of the best things involving this movie, is the chemistry between May and Manaphy, seeming a lot like a mother daughter relationship, and I love how Manaphy is similar to an actual infant, since he had just hatched from an egg not long ago around the 32 minute mark, and even though the movie was around 1hr 45min, I felt it was a bit short, compared to other movies I have, I don't think this overstayed its welcome too much, and even though I am glad the entire movie wasn't focused on May and Manaphy, I wish that they were focused on a bit more throughout the movie, but I wouldn't want the movie to focus on 3 or more different plotlines that try to fight with each other, so its ok with me.
I find this movie a great casual watch in general, personally I would watch this again, but in PSVR, since I watched this first on the TV, the movie is just that great that I would want to watch again.
