Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
Wasted possibilities...
Well as many others here... first one was fresh and new and exciting, second one was disappointment and third one overly long CGI party, where you don't need any suits for open space as well. It is sad, that the Hollywood movie-makers are underestimating the true power of a good story. They are making all the nowadays movies overly complicated. And cutting-stories together from past memories and present, to make a story, is not a good idea. That means, if you "hack" the timeline for the sake of making your movie filled more with action, know that usually older people or especially people with dementia symptoms will not understand the time-shifting. Secondly, I didn't get the ANGRY mood of the characters, it was more than painful to watch and hear. I will give 2 points for the very well done CGI. Even the music, which had a key-role in the first, has diminished in this-one. They left the door open for the next one, but I'm not sure I am going to watch it. Not a happy experience.
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
Action top-notch... Tom's good as always, but...
Well, has any of the script writers seen Lockpickinglawer youtube channel? A key is an impenetrable obstacle? Really? It is possible to pick locks even under water you know and no lock with a keyhole is safe and usually the key is not needed to pick them apart.
Action scenes are amazing as always. Tom is amazing as always. Women are nuts as always. Script is filled with illogical events. I see where this is going and why Ethan Hunt character needed a master thief and a lock-picker in his team. There is a lock waiting them in a second part for god's sake. And please tell me, how did they fix an TOTALLY fried and unfixable faceprinter within few hours?
Napoleon (2023)
Amazing battle-scenes, but wrong actors...
Well, I agree with some of the critical user reviews here and I will keep it short for you. The battle-scenes are totally amazing to watch and done flawlessly, the costumes also amazing throughout the movie and easily worth the Oscar. Colors and composition on frames will take you back in time. But with that the good things pretty much end. Mr. Phoenix is wrong man for the role. It's not because his acting - he is simply not getting older although a lot of time will pass. Everybody is speaking English. The movie would have had a better feel, if all the nations would have their on language presented. Btw, at some point you can hear a few well spoken Russian phrases... Why such choice? Did you not learn from Mel Gibson's Apocalypto? Overall pace (not in battles) could be better.
And finally some errors like in some other Scott's movies, like planes in the sky and gas-tanks in a chariot... You can see here, in the old ship, just before the end - fire extinguisher, electric wires on a ceiling and welded pipes on the wall.
Leaving Las Vegas (1995)
Lost an hour of my life... Don't make the same mistake
Sadly, I cannot give less than 1 point because it's a clear zero. The movie end is pointless as are it's all scenes. I have a father, that has been drinking every day since last 60 years. He doesn't understand on which planet he is anymore, doesn't recognize his kids. Around 30 years back he stopped to care of anything - such people are incapable to love or even care from other people. They care ONLY about next alcohol bottle. They cannot feel. They are the real zombies - alive but actually already dead. I have seen countless alcoholics during my life because of my father and none of them are thinking so clearly like mr Cage, none of them have so clear eye-site, non of them move so well. So mr Cage character is VERY badly acted alcoholic. They are usually not peaceful. Even the slightest things make them roar, if they are not drunk. So you see, it is an impossible scenario and really bad acting without an ending point. If possible don't watch it.
Let Him Go (2020)
Ending needs to be different
Well, instead of killing everybody off in the end, there was many ways it could have ended. My favored one looks like this: Lorna could have escaped with the car and George would have been captured and tortured; may-be captured Margaret and Peter too. Lorna reaches the pointed sheriff, who launches rescue-operation for hostage situation. May-be police injuring somebody in the process but nothing serious. Instead we have a convenient row of deaths in the end.
Other then that, movie is quite good and watchable.
Flight of the Navigator (1986)
Timeless classic!
To my understanding this movie features the most accurate design of a spacecraft, that may take somebody to anywhere. At least it is believable, with it's shapes and capabilities. It let's the imagination fly. Clearly a movie ahead of it's time. Probably watchable for ages to come.
Oblivion (2013)
You will be sad when Tom is finally gone one day.
For 2013 the movie with the effects is amazing. It has some surprises on the way and some surmises as well. Didn't know much about this movie and it was a great discovery. One thing that really stud out for me was the design of objects in this movie. So if you are a designer by profession it's a must watch for you. Finally, stuff designed correctly and therefore they seem real. And of course Tom Cruise, an American national treasure you should all cherish till you can!
News of the World (2020)
One of the best movies in 2020
I don't understand the critical ratings. I really wanted to see the movie, after seeing the trailer and I was not disappointed, which is usually not the case. It's a relatively quiet movie with very intense moments, sometimes even without words, what really needs a higher mastery of acting. Therefore acting in this movie is extraordinary and moving. The girl character was well chosen and did a fantastic job. Costumes and characters are really well done. Plus on top of that I really enjoyed the exteriors and interiors, which looked aged and well placed in 1870's time-frame and took the viewers back in time. Only thing was the CGI that can be done better but it was not ruining the overall emotion you can gain from the movie. So if you are looking for a lovely Western movie, you just found it!
Tenet (2020)
A lot of failures and awful sound!
I had no expectation but after the movie i felt disappointment. It almost seems that mr Nolan has became madman and the movie is made in a big hurry. First thing that started to be very quickly annoying, was the dialogue between characters. It felt like they had the text well memorized but in reality they didn't understand what they are speaking (or doing) causing them to speak with no emotion, like they were reading the text from the paper. And the same problem was there from start to the end. Only character who had more to offer was the main evil one.
This movie, being as "blurry" for your mind as it is, has so many errors, that you will find them probably for years to come. I will mention the biggest one. As they go back in time, they need to breathe "different reversed air", they are usually transported in a bubble and so on. At one point they go backwards in time trying to save the woman character. When they kind of arrive to the right destination everything gets out of hands. Suddenly the woman character doesn't need any special air to be at the Monte-Negro bay area, to swim to the boat. Going backwards in time should take away the scar completely without any medicine. The main bad character cannot have memories from events happening half a month later! The "normal time" woman, as all the other ones before her, should see the jumping woman going backwards, instead of the normal jump. In all that failure madness... the phone calls from the future. It almost seems, that mr Nolan didn't care enough and is really loosing his mind.
Pariah: The Lives and Deaths of Sonny Liston (2019)
Why, oh why...
Well, people are evil to each other. This documentary is proof to that. Interesting and really cruel. And also true in that sense that if you are "marked" in life, it's almost impossible to break out. It's coded inside you so deeply... and strangely all the other people feel it somehow. The mobsters in that time period shaped the America as for now, all is more refined and undercover but I believe they are still there, pulling the strings and fixing stuff if possible.
If you like history and boxing combined, watch it! It's really well made. You'll like it.
Dou foh sin (2007)
Must for Donnie fan
Considering it is made 2007, the special effects are really well executed for that time-frame. Donnie is showing what an excellent martial artist he is, as well the villain character, who both produced easily one of the top 10 fight scene of all times. Great surprise and recommended for all kung-fu and martial art fans. Watch and you'll be enjoying it!
Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019)
Too much!
Too much of everything and specially CGI. 2 points go to Jason Statham. With 48 hours from USA to London, London to Moscow (regular flight) and from Moscow to Hawaii, not to mention the garage-Joe who is able to repair high end future stuff made by two-time Nobel-price winner in one night? Since when the Fast and Furious series turned into Avengers? Why Dwayne has to be presented half-naked in every movie? Total logical disaster this-one and really bad add-on for F&F series fans.
Stuber (2019)
Nice refreshing soft action.
Well executed and funny. Doesn't deserve the current rating. It's not a 10 only for two small reasons. First the main evil (woman) should have been somebody else. And secondly, the writers missed the opportunity to make it even more funny because after the eye surgery you should use eye drops for every half an hour that will make your view a bit better. Imagine doing this during the action, it would have been hilarious.
Alpha (2018)
No background research from filmmakers!
The movie is actually 5.5 for me but... It's certainly watchable, if you don't have a logical brain and not much knowledge of how things work in real life. Sadly the movie makers wanted to create an epic movie with landscape views more than accurate scene of the past.
The wood and of course the food is the basis for life. In that light the first humans 20000 years ago depended heavily from these two resources. Humans moved their camps where the living food went and they most likely didn't take 300 mile trips with 10-15 men to get some food for the rest of the year... and 200 miles from nearest forest... highly unlikely. Preferred spots for long stops where with fresh water, forest nearby and animals to hunt. Nowadays findings even in deserts are showing that there was once a forest. And the people didn't look like this back then... like they stepped there from our streets. They were small and the scull had different structure not being anywhere near to a model from Gucci promo.
The movie has the main character walking on totally empty land for hundreds of miles, carrying almost nothing, yet he makes fire every night. To add some dramatic look, he is coughing blood - 20000 years ago that would mean death for sure. The CGI is most of the time not seamless and is discernible. Good attempt.
Rush (2013)
Advisable to watch before you die.
Watched it years later from it's release and I experienced an amazing emotions during the movie witch is rare.
Actors (10), acting (10), details (10) and sound/music (10) - all very well done. Over average CGI (8).
If you like racing or are into cars, watch it, you want regret it!
Dvizhenie vverkh (2017)
Well... not quite...
I have played basketball for 20 years for now and therefore studied the game history as well. It's a beautifully made movie, but with a lot of bad and over the limit details.
Most annoying detail of the movie - if you ever are going to make historic basketball movie - get the correct basketball rims from that time, man. The softer, unbreakable rims with springs came tens of years later. That hurt my eyes.
Secondly, please be real, russians throwing down between the legs dunks... Even in today's NBA I haven't seen that being done in-game. Not to mention all the other flashy and also pointguard dunks performed by russian players. The players in that era moved like robots, most of them. Elgin Baylor and Dr. J were the first ones to really play the game with more smoothly body movement. To me the russians just wanted to show off with the inaccurate and overly imposed basketball game as if the have some complexes with the final game.
And they should not be so heroic with that Olympic game win because it was a total fiasco of the century in basketball sense. If the timeout is missed by the referee then that's it. Even worse, who was this baldy to go and tell table referees what to do. That's an Olympic final for gods sake! And I am from a country that was under Soviet Union control in that time.
Anyway, not a total waste of time if you are not a basketball freak like me.
