Königin von Niendorf (2017)
Königin von Niendorf
One of my favorite movies and deserves a place in my top-10 list, absolutely.
As a German low-budget, crowd-funding movie, which could be learnt from its official website, it impressively stands out from many commercial movies nowadays, from my perspective at the very least. Obviously, Queen of Niendorf lays great emphasis on the adorable and spellbinding depiction of memorable childhood experiences, featuring the juxtaposition of thrilling adventures and idyllic sceneries.
For the adventures, childish as they may seem in our eyes, it's exactly they that trigger the genuine interest and thrill of kids. Besides, they bear perfect witness to Lea's coming of age, from a "follower" to the "queen" of boys. The "railway test" vividly demonstrates the resilience, unyieldingness, recklessness and masculinity of our little Lea. So dangerous? Oh please just interpret the whole movie in children's mind--they are just as care-free as that way, and Lea is just full of guts, bravery and charm.
For the bucolic countryside scenery, it's more refreshing and intoxicating than that in most movies (comparable to Heidi, Under the Tuscan Sun, Flipped, etc). From the azure sky to bright sunshine, from emerald meadows to golden fields, from dazzlingly transparent swimming pool to smooth country road perfect for riding......What else should I covet if living in such a picturesque paradise?
It's also a wonderful movie without the boundary of time and space. Whenever you're born and wherever you're from, as long as you're watching it, an invisible bond comes into being with each and every one of other audience, empathizing with this romantically lovely children's world, which, more or less, we are nostalgic about, yearned for, infatuated with and dreaming of. Every once in a while throughout the movie,a knowing smile may dawn on our faces: isn't that proud boy or persistent girl I used to be? Didn't I once build a similar secret base like that tree house? Didn't I take daring adventures and play naughty tricks as they do? In this sense, rather than simple viewers and receivers, we, at least to some extent, collectively create this movie.
At last, this one, together with many other children's movies, reveals at a deeper level an underlying, easily-neglected yet frustrating truth, that is, when you can fully understand and admire a children's movie, you're no longer a child any more. Conversely, a real light-hearted, free-of-worry-and-care child may never identify with them, since the life and the experience depicted in them is literally the same as theirs, thus having nothing to be envious of or longing for--they just aloofly put them away: a record of my life? So boring and tedious! They prefer animations of fancy plots and characters. Decades later, when looking back, however, they will possibly have a dawning comprehension that the life they used to is actually the most treasurable at all. But what on earth can you do about it? Just getting more wistful yet lost. After all, such is human nature, that we are always unaware and oblivious of what we currently own but retrospective and reminiscent of what we used to have, that we can only cherish what is gone.
Anyway, should I've got a chance to relive the dreamy childhood, which is as splendid and iridescent as that in this movie, I'll go for it at any cost.
American Beauty (1999)
Masterpiece
When I first watched this film,I quit half way-what on earth it wants to talk about?Ridiculous and preposterous and just typical black humor with unbearable vulgarity and eroticism(say the aberrant love with a child-girl etc.)However, when I have a second or maybe a third and fourth try,I find something different.
Conspicuously, this one is nothing of those ubiquitous funny, silly, superficial, comedic films that can make you brainlessly laugh to death and render you an unprecedentedly good frame of mindset after watching. This one is,in great contrary, rather complicated, unspeakably gloomy-much more abstruse and incomprehensible than any other film.Outwardly,it tells a droll and messy story of a family of three;inwardly,it recklessly, mercilessly, trenchantly reveals the most fragile yet authentic part concealed in everyone's life, hidden in everyone's heart. It may include those immoral desires for sex(Lester Burnham ),torturing despondency and failure(Carolyn) in life, trouble in puberty, irreconcilable conflicts with friends(Jane)...all of which most of us-"it's sad but true"-never dare to admit, and which everyone prefers to hide in their own secret nook forever. No one wants to face them, but, just as the film tells us,they are there, inevitable whether you want or not.So maybe a little vulgar, the film does tell the truth, which accounts for the controversy it arouses.
Moreover,American Beauty teaches us a lot about what is reality and what is iridescent illusion.Anything that appears to be as placid as the transparent surface of a still lake maybe be deadly perilous. So it is with our life. While many of us are under the delusion that everything goes on smoothly, all is well, life is totally in control ,etc ,etc, the film obnoxiously shatters your dream:Oh Please wake up!Don't be so naive!Life is rather unpredictable and uncontrollable than you think. While we deem ourselves as masters of our life, actually we much more resemble the plastic bag shown in the film-at the mercy of the wind, the wind of life.Who knows when it will spin desperately out of control and dreadfully give you an unanticipated and fatal blow?(just see the Lesters )And when it happens, the only thing you can do is to return to reality.Wave adieux to your fantasy just like Lester does to his Angela.Go back to your real life, though it's not that snug and cozy!
Alien³ (1992)
A little disappointing...
I'm a big fan of the whole series, but this one is obviously not up to my expectations. Not comparable to any other one in the series..The whole story was set on a planet without weapons and,I have to admit, it's a creative idea. However the storylines are somewhat boring and dull..No surprising twists. Many plots have been simplified and similar scenes repeat and repeat for sooo many times.Monotonous! Those silly prisoners acted as if they were idiots and they were just asking for trouble!!No wonder they were all killed by ONLY one alien.Disappointing.
Alien 3 could be designed better ....
Resident Evil (2002)
Classical thrilling film with blood and gore..
So GORY and repulsive!!l mean it! This one frightens me to death, absolutely. And I enjoy it that way. It's one of the most thrilling Sci-fi films I've ever seen, though containing some terribly gory scenes.(some people were sliced into pieces by the dreadful lasers!)Needless to say, this one also involves some other elements that are a must for sci-fi films. The unbearably weird silence in the Hive, the drab zombies, disgusting monsters and the sudden mutation of human beings nearby.....all those keep jarring and pinching my nerves !I nearly cry out: OMG !!as if all these were just happening in front of me!!True to life... definitely.
Also I have to say that the film may be a little hard to understand at first, yet you will finally find all the scenes and plots are carefully designed. No flaws!Perfect!
For this classical thrilling film,i will give 10 stars.Really good.
Gone with the Wind (1939)
A great film rich in themes
Very great!!!Definitely a one-in-million film with perfect plot ,vivid characters and a tear-shedding ending.Through the story of Scarlett ,the film,I think, mainly puts forward a question of changing or not.As a matter of fact,Scarlett has always been a controversial character ,deplored by sooo many people.Be that as it may,I still think highly of her.Indeed.Imagine that era in which Sac lived!Throughout the Civil War,actually everything was changed.Turmoil,invasion,deprivation,robbery,arson...those bygone days were definitely nightmare for everyone, forcing them to make a choice between changing and being changed. However, only Scarlett had the courage to rise up against challenges.Only she dared to change herself in order to fight against the uneven and miserable life(in ironic comparison with Ashley who only wallowed himself in the past!)To change is to live!By all means!Absolutely Scarlett was the master of her life ,a great winner despite all her deeds. You can call her cruel, you can actually describe her as crazy, sly, uppity, but all these should be attributed to the era.(she might be a little capricious in the beginning though) .Scarlett just changed ,transformed herself to live through it,anyway. It's not her fault...She was also innocent.
By the way ,the ending in which Scarlett found her true inner self ,revealed the misunderstanding and expressed her deep love to Rhett is really really touching...Of only the story ended not in tragedy....
Lolita (1997)
A unique film forever!
Lolita 1997 is definitely more than just a film.It is a mixture of nostalgia, exoticism, idyllic depictions ,tranquil sceneries and yet the aberrant love in desperation.Controversial theme as it may convey, it's acceptable on the whole. After all ,it is Lolita as it has always been...Never will we forget the cute ,naughty and giggling girl...
Whilst the love between the minor and her stepfather may have been paid much attention to,I myself was totally enthralled by the dreamy long trip all over the country. What a great trip!I just can't help letting out a cry-absolutely!Along the trip, we can see the luxuriantly green rainforest, breathtaking blue sky and imposing mountains in the remote countryside.Meanwhile ,it's those quaint inns and gasoline stations that add strong local color and nostalgia to the film.So amazing...
The River in Me (2019)
Impressive musical film with strong local color
Though little known, this one is actually great and worthy of watching.Several different stories make up the film, yet indeed they are closely related to each other. This Chinese film of course depicts beautiful bucolic sceneries all over the country and the imposing spectacles of Yellow River, which stands for the word River in the title, but what counts more is definitely those traditional culture customs mentioned in it. It reveals the current situation of many conventional art or musical forms which have developed along the Yellow River, say Piyjng,Qinqiang,Huaer, thus laying great emphasis on culture protection. At the end of the film ,it shows the way in which Chinese people try to promote those precious customs and how they manage to combine traditions and modern life. So,this film is much more than just music but has a profound influence.
Friends (1971)
Real and pure romance
The film is great and it's just my cup of tea-a bucolic and nostalgic one in 1970s.Generally speaking, the flim has a quiet simple plot, only telling a story of two kids who managed to pursue a carefree and idyllic life after getting sick of their mundane family. The two little "recluses" buried themselves in quaint-and-tranquil countryside, enjoying their LOVELAND and even had their own baby!Wheeee~
On a personal note ,the most fascinating part in the film is definitely the pure PUPPY LOVE between Paul and Michelle. It was natural and refreshing.Their encounter, their mutual understanding and encouragement, their peaceful daily life ...were all beautiful. This is absolutely a one-in-million film about teenage romance!
What's more,it's REAL and reasonable, which is crucial for any film.It can't be denied that whoever breaks away from a secular life and tries to live in remote countryside may be confronted with sundry basic living matters, and so it was with this young couple.Undoubtedly, the film takes all those into consideration..
By the way,the end of Friends is also appealing-I can't help but wondering what'll happen next .Anyway,I'm gonna watch Friend 2- Paul and Michelle(1974).
Flipped (2010)
Beautiful Teenage Romance
It's a FANTASTIC one! I have completely fallen in love with it. The puppy love between Julianna and Bryce is so sweet and comedic. What l enjoy Most about the movie is definitely the picturesque countryside it depicts.Yeah,Countryside, along with little Juli and her "most beautiful" sycamore tree.I'm always touched by the bucolic and quaint scene where Juli's sitting in her sycamore tree, feeling the gentle breeze blush her cheek and enjoying the majestic and spectacular sunset ,dying the whole sky red.How amazing! It's just the kind of country life l am always yearning for.
Also,I bought this impressive American novel last year, which is as great as the movie.
