Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed (2008)
Brilliant! Ben Stein is a documentary genius!
Way to go Ben! You knocked this one out of the park! Ben Stein is masterful documentarian. This film will no doubt be circulating for many years on DVD. Ben turned the hypocrisy of evolutionists on their ears. I watched this film today in Oregon... the theater was nearly full, the crowd loved it. Emotions ranged from laughter (at the arguments of evolutionist) to anger and everything in between. I highly recommend this movie to anyone with an open mind, who does not mind following the evidence where ever it may lead... EVEN IF THEY MAY NOT LIKE WHERE IT TAKES THEM! If you watch this movie you will be challenged no matter what you believe. The film opens up the proverbial "can of worms" or "pandora's box" on the issue of the EVOLUTION V.S. INTELLIGENT DESIGN debate.
The Passion of the Christ (2004)
This movie is absolutely wonderful!
"it is as it was" to quote the Pope. This movie is absolutely wonderful. Go see it, I promise you won't be sorry. The cinematography was excellently crafted, the music was incredible. Mel Gibson's use of lighting was powerful. The Passion Of The Christ is a work of art that is sure to become a classic. Regardless about what you may think of the message of the movie, you cannot deny that it is one of the most moving movies in history. If this movie does not win an Oscar for BEST MUSIC... then I am convinced that the Oscars are fixed. If you plan to see it you'd better buy your tickets early; a lot of the show times in our town are selling out. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it a 12!
The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
Wow! I only would change one thing...
The special effects were extreme! When it comes to effects, I guarantee you have never seen anything that even comes close to this movie. I enjoyed seeing more of the story from the "real world" point of view. The only thing that I would have changed is the ... shall we say... physical exchange between Neo and Trinity. That whole scene was way too long and showed too much skin. Is it any wonder that teen / unwed pregnancy is so high in America today when hollywood continues to market eroticism and sexuality to teens. I know the movie is rated "R" but I would bet the average age in the theater was 18 yrs old... Come on Hollywood, you can do better... Any way, off of my soap box now. The movie was amazing. A mental mind trip that will blow you away.
The Core (2003)
"B" movie of the year...
This movie had a few good moments. It seemed to lack depth. I never could get excited about the few good special effects moments, for all of the cheesy effects moments. I was never put on the edge of my seat, never felt a rush of any kind. The movie fell far short of the story's potential. I would definitely not go see this one on the big screen, wait until it comes out on video, then go rent it at BlockBuster.
Tears of the Sun (2003)
This movie had big potential... but fell short.
*** Spoilers!*** This movie had some great cinematography and a couple of good battle scenes. It never seemed to develop an edge like "Black Hawk Down" or "Saving Private Ryan" though. It was very slow in some parts... I even struggled staying awake once or twice. The movie was also a bit shallow, I would have liked to see more character development. They really missed an excellent opportunity when they down played finding the president's son among the refugees. When that was first revealed I thought... "Oh boy... now it's going to get good" but it was downplayed in a big way. I'm not even sure why they put it in the movie. I wanted to see the calvary called in to protect the president's son. The calvary was called in later for other reasons. The scene in the village was my favorite... "we've got ringside seats to an ethnic cleansing" what a great line, and the action that followed in the village ... wow. That was the best part of the movie.
Star Trek: Nemesis (2002)
I keep hoping Star Trek movies will impress me... I'm still waiting!
*** SPOILERS AHEAD... BEWARE! *** I have never been to impressed with Star Trek films. This one had several story elements that were clearly borrowed/stolen from the Star Wars movies. Examples... Picard and his clone twin remind me too much of Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. The dark side and good side of the same person... I know it's not exactly the same but close enough for me. There are other examples but I won't go into them here. The special effects were pretty good. The story was predictable and did not have enough action. I actually got bored a few times, once I even fell asleep. I love the Star Trek television series. The original, Next Generation, and Voyager were great. Deep Space 9 was terrible. I say all that to say this, Star Trek's place is on the television, not on the big screen. They have tried many times and I don't think they have pulled it off yet. All of their big screen films look like made for T.V. movies and Nemisis was no exception. My advice? Don't waste your money in the theatre. If you are a die hard Trekkie rent it on video. I rated this movie a 5, but it really fell at more like a 4.9.
The Santa Clause 2 (2002)
This movie was great!
***** spoilers ahead! *****
This movie had me laughing and moved me almost to tears a couple of times. There are some who have not given this movie a good review, don't listen to them. Tim Allen was great, his co-star (what's her name?) was great. This was an excellent feel good movie for the holidays. I liked it better than the first one. The thing with the reindeer talking by making noises was very funny. I also liked the parts with the other characters from legend... Mother nature, Tooth Fairy, Father Time etc. Go see this movie, you will not be wasting your time.
Independence Day (1996)
One of the best movies I have ever seen...
Seldom do movies stir a sense of patriotism as much as this one did. I also loved it's message about mankind needing to come together because we do not really know what is (or is not) "out there". The special effects were overwheming(in a good way) and the acting was excellent. Too many times a movie's special effects will have to carry a poor story line to make a good movie. Not so with this one. I can honestly say this is one of the best movies I have ever seen. It screems for a sequel! I hope that happens, but I have not heard of any thing on that front. If you have not seen it, watch it, you will love it.
Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie (2002)
As good as I hoped it would be!
Excellent animation, very well put together movie. Your kids will love it. There's no doubt I will be buying this DVD. Sometimes when short animation features make the leap to the big screen you are not satisfied with the result, not true in this case. I would like to see a lot more movies of this genre in theaters. Don't miss this one!
Spider-Man (2002)
Great movie... I saw it twice the first day.
I loved this movie. About the only thing I did not like was the language. A few more four letter words than were necessary. If you are going to create a movie with a theme attractive to kids them leave the language out. Come on Hollywood, this should be a no brainer. Other than that the movie was great. Special effects, acting (especially Toby Maguire) and plot elements remained to to the original Marvel Spider-man comics. All in all it was a great movie. I will be buying this one on DVD.
Epoch (2001)
Good story concept, mediocre special effects
Good story concept. The special effects could have been a little better. I think this is a movie made by SciFi channel. Being a made for TV movie it isn't half bad. The story reminds me of the movie "Sphere" It is worth a watch based on the story concept alone. I'm glad I watched it.
