Grizzly Man (2005)

biggest waste of 2 hours of my life
24 May 2006
Warning: Spoilers
i have NEVER, EVER, EVER been as incredibly disappointed by any television show, film or documentary as i was by this contrived piece of trash. The footage that the subject shot in Alaska is absolutely gorgeous and i believe so much more could have been done with it and with his crazy story. It disappointed me terribly that all this documentary focuses on is his death when there was so much more to his life and times with these bears that would have made a better story had maybe a bit more research been done.

The people he chose to interview are ridiculous. All of the interviews are forced, blatantly acted out and terribly at that. I don't see how the guy who flew the helicopter to pick up his body has ANY right to make a formal statement about what the subject was doing with the bears, it is already obvious that he did not belong there and messed with the bears too much and we do not need ANOTHER person to say it. The scene where he asks the ex-girlfriend to never look at the footage of the attack was EXCRUCIATING to watch.

Not to mention the interview with the "curator" at the museum in Alaska who struggles so obviously to have something to say that might be interesting and applicable but instead he repeats what every other interviewee had already said 15 times before in each of their interviews and adds some comment about the Alaskan "way" of respecting bears that just sounds completely made up.

i could really go on for days about how horrible this documentary was, and what a total disappointment it was. i mean i honestly can't get over what a train wreck this was and i don't understand what people see in it. the bears and the personality of the subject are really interesting and great in and of itself but what the director does to this story is just disgusting, and a terrible waste of 2 or more hours of life.

but half the people i talk to absolutely loved this documentary, and the other half hated it so... go ahead i guess and take the time to see it and draw your own conclusions. but am i the only one who realizes what a SHAM this is?

Mom and Dad Save the World is delightfully silly and totally ridiculous. Jon Lovitz is the perfect antagonist and this is one of my favorite roles of his. The make up, visuals and props are all incredibly inventive and cute. Tons of hilarious moments and memorable lines. The story can drag along in points and does not have the greatest script but it's wit and originality makes up for any shortcomings. I watched this as a child once and for years to come I still thought of it time and time again, replaying certain scenes in my head, it was completely memorable. Definitely a great movie to watch with the kids with plenty of good parts to amuse even the most disinterested of adults. I can still hear Jon Lovitz crying "Marge.... Marge..." I giggle to myself just thinking about it.
