Knock Knock (2015)
This is not for everyone
Not everyone is going to like this film because it seems that the bad guys win, but then again you might conclude that all involved were bad guys. At any rate, I was pretty disappointed at the ending of this movie. I wanted to see the person who was being assaulted get justice. And sure there was infidelity involved, but I don't think that the crime fit the punishment.
However, having made mention of crazed females, I think this is where this films is going. It's seems to be more about two crazed females who were abused as young girls and wanted to punishment men who reminded them of their fathers. In conclusion, the film was not Keanu's greatest, but he did what he could with how it was written. So if you're a Keanu fan you might like this film a little.
The Many Saints of Newark (2021)
Enjoyed it!
Ok, if you're expecting this films to be all about the sopranos series you'll probably be a little disappointed. However, it did loosely tell a story of how Tony soprano came to be a gangster boss. Anyway, the film was pretty darn good. It had a lot of action, some suspense, and a lot of drama. You kind of have to look at this film as a standalone, because it veers away from the sopranos series quite a bit. But if you're looking for a good gangster Flix with a ton of action and drama, this is a film you should take a look at. If it's any indication, I've already added this film to my movie collection so I can watch it again from time to time. So go rent it or stream it, etc.
The Last of Us (2023)
What if?
If you like zombies, or in this case, people being controlled by a fungus, you'll probably enjoy this show. The series also starts with a what-if scenario, where a scientist discuss the possibility of a fungus taking over ones mind. Anyway, let me stop here and not spoil it. I will just simply say it's a pretty good show to watch. It's got romance, a little comedy, a decent amount of action, and some thrills and chills. The characters are likeable and the actors do a great job of portraying those characters. In conclusion, I say give this show a chance and watch for yourself; you'll probably end up enjoying it despite some of the harsh reviews.
The Voices (2014)
Sad and hilarious at the same time
I really enjoyed this film. Only Mr Reynolds can take an otherwise sad situation and make it funny. Those of us who work with the mentally ill can see the sadness in it. But at the same time, I understand that this film is probably meant to be dark comedy. It's sad that Ryan's character is suffering from severe mental illness, but he also seems like he could be a real nice guy. And then.you have to feel sorry for his victims, with the exception of one of them. However, it was a good movie and I would recommend giving it a shot. And if your into dark comedy I can assure you you want be dissatisfied.
Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993)
Wasn't all bad!
This particular Friday the 13th wasn't great, but it was ok in my opinion. Jason was a little different from the Jason everyone knows from the other films, but the way he killed was typical Jason. So what was different about Jason? Well, for the sake of not spoiling it, let's just say, he wore a few costumes in this one. I also want to add, that, I thought some of the other Friday the 13th films, which were made right before this one, were a little different from when the series first started. Certainly, part 1 and part 2 were more serious and scary to me.
Anyway, if you just want to watch a gory, slasher film that's not your typical Friday the 13th film, I'd say go for it. I've watched it more than a few times now.
The Bourne Identity (2002)
Almost got a 10!
First let me say, this was a good watch. The story, suspense and action was all good. However, I could see the choreography in the fight scenes, in others words, the fights didn't look real - they actually looked as though they were practicing the fights in the film. This probably would have been okay for a comedy spy film. I also noticed how the camera seem to bumble around at times, as to hide the lack of realism in the fight scenes. However, everything else was pretty darn good about this film. Having said that, this is one of those action, spy movies that I will probably watch again. Let me conclude by saying, I enjoyed watching Matt in the film, Elysium.
Day Shift (2022)
Feel-good fun!
When I saw the preview the first few times on Netflix, I was a little hesitant to watch it. But I'm glad I gave this movie a chance. I finally decided to watch it after looking at the preview several times. The movie had me laughing my butt off. I noted in some reviews people talked about the film not having a story, but I think for this type of film the story is fine as it is - not serious and to the point - the film is Action-comedy. The main characters (Franco, Foxx, and Snoop) made it a fun movie to watch. I was very satisfied spending the nearly two hours watching it, and I do plan to watch it again. 🙂
Beneath Us (2019)
It happens
Although it gave more of a political message and less of a story, the film wasn't half bad. First let me say, I doubt that undocumented laborers are taken to a worksite and killed on a regular basis. With that said, it's quite possible that it could and has happened on occasion. However, I think what the film was trying to portray is that we as U. S. citizens do at times treat undocumented workers unfavorably. I don't believe it was actually saying that undocumented workers are murdered by U. S. citizens as common practice. However, I managed to get past the political message and see this film as an entertaining piece of work.
In conclusion, I've probably watched this film 3 or 4 times within the past 6 months so it's become somewhat of a cult- classic to me.
Ghost (1990)
Just one tiny little flaw!
First I have to say, this was an awesome film with just the right amount of everything. You laughed, your eyes watered, and it thrilled you. The only thing I didn't care for much was the repeated play of "Unchained Melody." In my opinion, playing it at the end of film was enough. But hey, I'm probably being too picky. That said, I still couldn't give it less than ten. I will admit, Demi, Patrick, and Whoopi are my favorites in the film. It's definitely in my movie collection.
Revenge (1990)
Just wondeeing
I thought this film was great from the very first time I saw it in the 90s. But one thing I'm still wondering about is, did Costner's character know who Tibey really was? However, there's some reality to someone fooling around with a powerful ruthless guy's woman. But when that guy's your friend, and can get you some of the most beautiful Mexican women for the asking, why mess with his wife? Aside from that unanswered question in the story, it is a great watch.
A Quiet Place Part II (2020)
Pretty good, but missing a little something!
I enjoyed this film, but I think the ending could have offered a little something more. For example, the attack scene at the island hideout could've had more monsters, and the battle to defeat them given an extra five minutes or so. I also would have like to see the whole Abbott family together on the island fighting the monsters. Which brings me to the other issue.
I didn't care much for the back and forth scenes between Emmett, and Evelyn Abbott. I think there was too much of it. Perhaps, Evelyn should've defeated her monster and then came to the island to help fight the rest of the monsters. In fact, I thought that Evelyn would join Emmett and Regan on the island in this film, and then the ending. Overall, I think it was a good film, and one that will make it in my movie collections.
Meeting Evil (2012)
Could have been so much better!
I can appreciate that the story did a good job of making you think it was a supernatural evil character coming to destroy the real estate guy's life, but in the end it reminded of a Lifetime Movie Network drama. Don't get me wrong, I like LMN movies, but i wasn't expecting this film to be one. I mean, at the end you realized that the movie was going to conclude just like it did - the villain getting killed and the family ending up safe and together again. Overall, it was a fun movie to watch, but I don't think it will make it in my movie collection.
Hard Candy (2005)
Good first time watch
After watching this film through its entirety, i decided that it would only be a one time watch for me. What was the purpose of using a young girl for this role - i think it would have made sense to use a parent. Besides the vigilante teen, i would've love to see a more detailed background story about Haylee and her captive. To conclude, everything else about the movie was ok, but it didn't quite make it in my classic movie collection.
The Vanished (2020)
Unresolved ending
I hope that this film has a sequel. The ending was not what I expected. It ended with a lunatic wife and sympathetic husband getting away in their R.V. Other than the ending I thought it was a good watch. And I hope that it will get resolved with a part two.
Would You Rather (2012)
Fun to watch with your adult friends!
In my opinion this wasn't a bad film. I thought it was a fun watch. In fact, I'e watched it several times. However, it had a few flaws, but I was able to look past those. For example, the doctor coming to the lambert house to save his patient. I just didn't understand why the doctor decided, days later, to go save his patient from the game. Afterall, he introduced her to the game's host. Finally, the ending just felt too short and unresolved. With that said, the film was a lot of fun to watch, especially with others, and I will probably watch it again.
The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear (1991)
Still getting a laugh from this!
It's 2020 and I'm still enjoying this movie. This is one of my favorite, if not the favorite, spoof comedies ever. I liked how they used what was happening in the cultural and political atmosphere at the time, and made it funny. It was like watching an extended SNL skit. I conclude by saying, I think Leslie Nielsen was a great pick for both naked gun films.
The Lie (2018)
Not bad but could have been great!
Let me start with the bad parts first. First of all, the ending I thought was little ambiguous. It's not clear whether the parents and their daughter went to jail or not, because the movie ended shortly after hearing police sirens approaching. Secondly, was mom and dad back together and the new man out? Would they let such a plot carried out by the daughter and her best friend bring them back together?
Now for the good parts I liked the suspense that went on while the police questioned both the supposed victim's father and the suspect's parents. Would the police arrest the suspect and her parents, or would they find some evidence to charge the victim's father?
In conclusion, I enjoyed the movie up to the last ten minutes or so. I think there was just too much ambiguity at the end for my taste. Perhaps this movie could've went another 20 minutes or so to bring about some resolution.
3 from Hell (2019)
Baby was too much
If anything ruined the chance of this film getting a higher rating, it was the baby character. Perhaps the baby character would have been more tolerable if she would have met an early demise in the film. Then the fact that she made it clear that she was the "star" of the film, made the rest of the film somewhat predictable. It was hard to be sympathetic to the baby character, because she was allowed to be too over the top with a pinch of arrogance. And that ending where she somehow defeats some those suit wearing killers. If she would have killed maybe one or two of them and met her demise at that point, I may have given this movie an 8 at least. Other than that it was an ok one- time watch.
A View to a Kill (1985)
Love the dynamic villainous duo
This was a great watch. Christopher Walken and Grace Jones were great together as an evil business duo..The action and thrill was awesome. I, for one, was sad to see Roger more stop playing 007. I liked his charisma, and how he brought glamor and grit together to create a beloved 007 character.
47 Hours (2019)
Trailer better than full movie
The preview compelled me to watch this movie, but it didn't deliver the way I thought it would. Prime video categorized it as a "young adult" film, but perhaps it should have been billed as a young teen film. There were some visions of killings, but definitely not a slasher film - there was no actual slashing or gory graphics. However, I stayed watching to see if something entertaining was going to happen. In conclusion, I give this film a C for effort in keeping me watching to the end, which was disappointing.
10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)
Missed opportunities
This movie could have been so much better. First, the beginning of the movie was probably not needed because it didn't tie into the ending. The film became a whole other story after the beginning. I thought the bunker scene was fine. But then you get to the scene, after she escapes the bunker, and she manages to destroy this huge spaceship - unbelievable! And then she drives off to fight the aliens. I mean, are we dealing with a woman scorned, because of a break-up, and now she's a GI Jane?
It begs the question, what was this movie really about? Who was this emotionally hurt woman, turned heroin? Why wasn't her ex more involved in the film so that maybe there would be more insight into the her character? However, I guess it was okay for a one time watch. I will give the filmakers credit for keeping you interested until the end. The frustrating part of it is, it was an unsatisfying ending for me.
The Collector (2009)
I'll watch it again
The story about the collector character fell a little short, but I'll watch it again and again. I just want to add that, despite the lack of a detailed explanation of who the villain was and why he was doing what he was doing, I still enjoyed this film. It was full of nonstop action and suspense. If you haven't seen the sequel (The Collection), please take a look at it. The sequel to The Collector gives some explanation about what the villain was doing.
Death Note (2017)
Fun watch, not much closure
Despite it's departure from the original, I thought it was fun to watch. So far I have watched this film twice and enjoyed it. I liked that William Dafoe plays the death note's monster - he gave the monster an approachable but malicious personality. I didn't give it a ten because I have yet to figure the ending...i feel like I was left hanging at the end.
Polaroid (2019)
Too many survivors
I've seen similar movies, and most of them get down to where there's one or two survivors left. And even one or both of them gets taken out because they forgot an important clue to killing the monster. For me, the above would've been a more suitable ending.
With that said, the movies wasn't bad, I would probably watch it again one day. But I don't think it will make to my pile of classic movie collections.
Troy (2004)
Hated the story
I wasn't going to comment on this film, because I didn't like the story. With that said, let me put on my professional hat.
Ok, the movies was pretty good. That first fight scene with Brad pitt and the goliath look-a-like, was awesome. The fight scene with Brad pitt vs hector was also good. The way they mocked the gods was a little hilarious. But I don't know much about the Homer version.
So I'm going to have to do some research on Homer to see if too much liberty was taken on this film. Until then, I'll leave my rating as it is.
