Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation (2015)
Chase scenes and opera houses
There are a lot of chase scenes in this movie that made my eyes glued to the screen. But what's thrilling to me is Ethan Hunt and his team infiltrating an opera scene so they can assassinate one of their enemies.
The Syndicate group (that was first mentioned in the fourth movie) gets a spotlight in this fifth installment. It is an elitist team that made Ethan Hunt and his groupmates go "rogue". Ethan must get to the British Prime Minister because this government official is the only one who can acquire access to the "red box" (a digital thumb containing The Syndicate's details, personal information, bank accounts of politicians that The Syndicate wants to steal money from, etc.).
But, along the way, Benji, one of Ethan's friends, was taken hostage. So, Ethan must decide whether to sacrifice his friend for the good of the country.
I must say that this fifth installment is above average when it comes to the action scenes. It is also less comedic than the fourth movie. This movie is decent enough to expand my knowledge on the CIA's operations, state alliances, and such. Overall, I give this movie a 7 out of 10.
Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio (2022)
Spectacularly and Masterfully written
Dark, terrifying, intense, and agonizing! Cried a few times after watching this movie twice on Christmas Eve. And I never would have thought that this movie would captivate me and my family tremendously. Obviously, this movie's not for children. It's for adults who can handle violent, if not traumatic scenes. And may I just say I'm giving this 10/10 because it tears my heart apart seeing the agony, loss, and wounds the characters have to go through. Regardless, the reformation of the characters that Pinocchio touched already makes him a real boy, and the best human being of this magnificent show!
Cruella (2021)
Stunning! Beguiling! Entrancing! Wicked!
This is one of the best live-action films I've seen since the live-action Maleficent movies and the live-action Beauty and the Beast from Disney! Stunning! Glorious! Provocative! Thrilling! Exciting!
At the back of my head, I had theories coming up every 10-15 minutes for possible outcomes. And even deeper in my mind, I know the reason I'm squealing in every bombastic scene is not only because of these dazzling divas, but also because of the soundtrack and the narrative!
This may not be as dark as Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, but it certainly brought me back to those days when I'm binge-watching Warner Bros.' Harry Potter spin-offs/prequels!
Ladies and gentlemen, this is more than a prequel of the 101 Dalmatians series! It's the origin story of Cruella, why she thinks the way she is, and why she becomes the antagonists in the Dalmatians series.
After watching Cruella, I watched the first 30 minutes of Disney's live-action movie: 101 Dalmatians (1996). I still remember bits and pieces of 101 Dalmatians (1996) scenes that were placed as Easter eggs in Cruella (and I'm so glad I remembered those from the original series).
No one can come close to Glenn Close's Cruella. However, if I may say just one thing: Emma Stone represents the dark half of Cruella, Glenn Close represents the light!
Yes, I know. You think I mistyped; but no. That's what I really thing: Emma Stone's Cruella is darker, wicked, evil; Glenn Close's Cruella is painted as the typical Disney villain that viewers will find it hard to sympathize for.
I guess this is the future of Disney feminine heroines/villainess that Disney is aiming for. Well, whatever formulae they're using, it's working and making them more money!
Kaguya-sama wa kokurasetai ~ Tensai tachi no ren'ai zunô sen ~ (2019)
Magnifique!
Well, for one thing, it has all the elements of a shojo + anti-shonen genre! It is adorable! I love the mind battles + romance-comedy genre! Storyline is cliche but it hits the right spots! 😀📺 Love the emo-character! He is so funny! 😂 It had add some elements of horror that I like! 👌🏽😁
Kaguya-sama wa kokurasetai ~ Tensai tachi no ren'ai zunô sen ~: I Can't Hear the Fireworks, Part 2/Kaguya Doesn't Want to Avoid Him (2019)
Adorable!
Love the mind battles + romance-comedy genre! Storyline is cliche but it hits the right spots! 😀📺 Love the emo-character! He is so funny! 😂 It had add some elements of horror that I like! 👌🏽😁
Kimetsu no Yaiba (2019)
Binged-watched for 1 1/2 days straight!
Fast-paced storyline, action-packed, binged-watched for 1 1/2 days, impressive CGIs, and impeccable OST! Animation is seamless! Characters are memorable! Storyline is impressive! 😍
Beastars (2019)
Phenomenal! Divine! Melancholy!
It makes me want to read the manga! Phenomenal! Excellent! I have never been this pump! 😍😁😆😄 Divine!
Onward (2020)
Innocent, Heart-warming
It was okay. I have nothing to say about it , except that there good parts that I like 😄, and some parts that are not for me or are cliché.
Boku no hîrô akademia (2016)
Fantastic Super Battles! 😁👌🏼
Decided to watch the 1st season of this anime (13 episodes). There were some episodes that are ups, but some episodes that are downs. Watched the English subbed for almost 4 1/2 hours! It is really for young kids / young boys, enough to pump up boys or give adults the importance of "encouragement" through positive words. Well, this anime premiered on 2016; the anime is still ongoing (cause the manga is still ongoing). Also love the battles between Kacchan and Deku 😁👍🏼📺!! Their dynamic is very interesting!
Tension: just enough to keep me watching the first season (or only 13 episodes for now) 😁.
Soundtrack: excellent soundtrack for a superhero anime 😁, there are some intensed and gory fight scenes
Lady and the Tramp (1955)
Phenomenal! Exquisite!
I have always loved this animation, and rewatching it as an adult made me realize the several issues only adults can realize even if this animations is re-watched several times as a kid. Love this movie! Sophisticated even for a kids' movie! 😍 OST is nostalgic and classic!
Lady and the Tramp (2019)
Heart-warming, emotional
Fair enough! Not as action-packed in the beginning, but the action picks up in the end! There are a lot of dialogues instead of action-packed scenes, but there are also flashbacks that I liked in this remake! Voice acting is perfect! Thompson (Lady) player her role perfectly! Could hate and love the changes they made with this remake, it is all good! 🙂👌🏼😄
Frozen II (2019)
Phenomenal! Excellent! Watched it twice!
Watched it twice in the theatres and it still brought me to tears! :D Love the music and voice casting! They are very excellent for their parts! This would go down in history!
Yakusoku no Neverland (2019)
Phenomenal Anime! Thrilling, Exciting, Breathtaking
Music and OST: 10/10!! It blew me out of the water, and I fell in love with the series more as I re-watch it for the second time (in both English dub and English subs)! Music can pull the viewers to emotional states, and help viewers feel the way the characters are feeling! :D
Character Design: Adorable! Art style is cute amidst its dark storyline!
Storyline: Fantastic! Awesome directing, camera shots, lighting, color schemes used on the animation! It adds more depth to the manga!
Thrilling, exciting, breathtaking! I am watching this for the second time! I fell in love with the plotline! Characters are memorable in this first season (or first arc of the series)!
Banana Fish (2018)
Outstanding! Magnificent! Exhilarating!
Watching this show in Christmas season may turn others off as this is a crime thriller anime filled with delinquent gangs, guns, violence, sexual abuse, and mental breakdowns. However, "redemption", "peace", "forgiveness" are some of the overlooked themes that audience miss. Despite its silly title, "Banana Fish", the dynamics among the characters is what keeps me watching the show (& I don't mean that in a twisted way). It is true that there are a lot of disturbing scenes in this show. Putting that aside, "What helps the characters moving forward despite their past traumas?", "What replenished their strength despite the horrifics of their current situation?" It is terrifying, and truth be told, this could have been an anime that ended in its 1st cour (first 12 episodes), and it could have been great nonetheless. I think the second cour is filled with filler episodes to expand the friendship among the protagonists and to expand the action sequences. It can get repetitive, and you just want these characters to have a definitive happy ending. But it is open-ended I think (the ending), and there may be no true ending that will give complete satisfaction and peace to these characters. So I guess that is why the creator/author/illustrator left it sort of a cliffhanger for us audience. The author might be saying, "I leave it all up to the audience on how they want my characters to find peace." Having said that, the animation art and soundtrack of Banana Fish is outstanding! It's themes are relevant in our society! I will give it 10/10!
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019)
A Blooming Fairy Tale + Game of Thrones Action
Fight scenes - fight scenes are expected, I do not find them too intense but rather just right for a Disney live-action movie, still I was gripping my chair
Romance - adorable, who could predict Disney would add festive and colourful scenes to the 1950's Sleeping Beauty - wonderful
Plotline - well maneuvered... It is something that I expected already having watched hundreds of live-action movies based on fantasy books, but still, this plotline has something that is out-of-the blue... Audience will not be too surprised to find Maleficent in the "Game of Thrones" action style
Characters - well-written, especially the evil villain of this story... I saw what the outcome of this villain's actions are going to be, but still, some characters are too gory to be put into a live-action Disney movie
Music - awesome, love re-listening to the old Maleficent soundtrack, and I am glad it is back and more wild!
Bai She: Yuan qi (2019)
Epic! Breathtaking! Touching! A Heartwarming Love Story!
A Titanic love story that is taking place in China! It's the classic "star-crossed lovers" story that competes above and beyond Titanic (1997)'s Jack and Rose, but with popular and significant Chinese folktale elements! I am glad that Light Chaser Animation became true to its roots. There are some mild sexual content in it, but overall, the movie's breathtaking sceneries and plot overrides any of the movie's sexual connotations. Growing up with Japanese animation, I expect a Japanese anime-vibe to this movie. But it's more than that! It can visually stun both video game players and Disney & Pixar fans because of its action sequences, storytelling, music, and character development! This is the most beautiful, heartwarming, touching, and endearing film to hit China (and hopefully, North America)! But since there's not enough North American audience who are aware of the White Snake folktale; it's only playing in few selected theatres. But when it's out in English (whether dubbed or subtitled), I will definitely part with some of my money to purchase this thrilling tale!
Fruits Basket (2019)
Heartwarming, Nostalgic, Tearful
Sometimes I wonder why I keep watching this 2009 reboot even though I've already finished the manga 12 years ago (and even though I finished watching the 2001 original series 18 years ago). Despite each episode running fast-paced due to closely following the manga, it is heartwarming, nostalgic, and makes me tear up, especially in the later half of the series. Whether I watch it in Japanese dub (with English subtitles) or English dub, I find myself crying over each emotionally-heavy scene. Here are a few reasons why I'm giving Fruits Basket: 1st Season (2019) a 10/10:
Character Designs - Wow! Amazing! Stunning! The artwork is gorgeous and detailed. Female audiences especially would definitely thirst over the beautiful and stylistic look of these animated characters! The Sohma boys are good, and as a female viewer, I couldn't agree more. The artwork is inviting and audiences are more likely to appreciate the animators' hard work in the tiniest details
Voice Cast - I watch both English dub and Japanese dub (with English subtitles), and I appreciate them both. The Japanese dub rings true -- the voice casts are so natural -- they don't try too hard to sound too cute, too modest, or too angry. As this anime is made from Japan, I like watching it with the new Japanese voice casts as the actors/actresses' raw voices transpires the beautiful animations from 2D to 3D.
Although Japanese voices are powerful, I am an English audience, and the story has had more impact on me if I watch it in English. But don't get me wrong, I like the Japanese casts -- in my opinion, it's better than the 2001 original voice casts. And FUNimation is doing a great job in dubbing the English casts!
Plotline - It's closer to the manga, and I love the way the animators tease audience to watch for the next episode / next season, as it truly hypes up the viewers for more emotional and epic scenes! A little bit of changes are made, but it's better 'cause we never saw them in the manga in the first place :)
Music - Astounding! I love hearing the music background in each episode as it only heightens the already emotionally-heavy scene, which ultimately brings tears to my eyes!
Technology - Little changes were made to adapt to tech-savvy audience as the manga was produced between 1998 - 2006. Background characters now have cellphones to communicate. And some of the Sohma guys even purchased Apple computers for work purposes, as well as a flat-screen TV. It just goes to show that the story has to adapt to its tech-savvy audience so the anime can be relatable. Although these are minor details, they're good additions.
