The Dark Knight (2008)
The Debate Is Over
I just watched it, again. Fourteen years later, one thing remains undisputed: The Dark Knight is the finest super hero movie that has ever been made. Nothing else really even comes close, or really stands the test of time. This movie is absolutely, truly superb in ever way possible.
Cobra Kai: The Rise (2021)
A Great Episode in a Forgettable Season
Season 4 was mediocre at best...until the season finale, which was a lot of fun and well done. The reason it was good? Because it provided story continuation to its original Karate Kid theme while also advancing the stories of both the kids and the adults in unique and actually meaningful ways. Earlier in the season I thought the story seemed tired, possibly dead. I'm looking forward to the way they have set up the story for season 5. Strike first, strike hard, no mercy. That is The Way of the Fist!
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 3: The Streets of Mos Espa (2022)
Beginning to question...
They literally have the most bad-ass character that exists in the Star Wars galaxy, and yet they have resigned him to bathtub flashbacks and sand dune adventure walking. They could put him anywhere in the galaxy, on any adventure imaginable, but no...he's managing teenage street thugs. I'm still holding out that this can get better so I sure hope that they inject some actual story, quickly please. Thank you.
The Blues Brothers (1980)
The destruction is unprecedented!
This movie is a miracle. They're on a mission from god, after all. The destruction presented forth in this movie is like no other before or since. They completely destroy a shopping mall, blow up buildings, and crash every police cruiser within a thousand miles of Chicago. You've never seen it's equal. And they never attempt to explain or define any of it - they just move on to the next event. Marvelous. I've watched it 1000 times and will see it another 1000 times before I die.
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989)
Strange Things Are Afoot...
It's just so simple. If only we had listened..."Be Excellent to Each Other, and...Party on Dudes!" Ah, indeed, the secret to life. And yet, we fight, we argue, we take offense to the smallest things. Seek out strange things and excellent adventures, and....party on dudes! Align the Planets!
Captain Phillips (2013)
Hanks finest performance? You decide.
This movie presents a dilemma for the viewer. It's thrilling, intense, and charged with emotion. While not ultimately the greatest overall Hanks movie, it is, perhaps, Hanks finest acting performance. Debatable, at least, and certainly at the top of his dramatic performances. He will make you feel the incredible weight of the moment. The movie itself is 7-7.5, however Hanks masterful 10 performance elevates the overall production another point or two. Cinema fans should watch this movie if for nothing else our greatest actor in one of his finest moments.
Breaking Bad: Box Cutter (2011)
A Haunting Episode
This episode ultimately reveals, perhaps for the first time, that none of the characters are redeemable. The break to bad has completely broken to evil now, resulting in a strategic race to outlast each other. The actors are at peak performance. Each character arc is fully developed. The story telling is superb. The set up for the masterful season 4 is now accomplished. Enjoy the ride. Well done!
Breaking Bad: One Minute (2010)
Supreme
This is perhaps the finest episode of Breaking Bad, and certainly the most intense one minute of the series. It takes my breath away every time. A Masterpiece!
The Mandalorian: Chapter 14: The Tragedy (2020)
And 37 years later...Unbelievably Exciting!
Well done, Favreau and crew! We waited 37 years for the return of a key character, and my goodness, you did not disappoint! Armored up and dropping storm troopers like he had nearly 40 years of making up to do in less than 3 minutes, that was one exciting moment for every true Star Wars fan. Wow, WELL DONE!
Cobra Kai: Take a Right (2019)
An emotional tribute!
A touching, and well-written, tribute to the original with an end scene literally 35 years in the making. As a lifelong fan since the original movie was released, Cobra Kai has FAR exceeded my expectations. Well done!
