The Wonder Years (2021–2023)

Gentle comedy about family life in the 60's from a different than usual perspective !
23 September 2021
As usual any show showing life in the good ol' US of A from anything but a Lilly-white perspective is immediately called "too political"!

I remember watching the original series whilst still at school and wondering where all the diversity in America is? I was getting into rock, blues and jazz music and Jimi Hendrix was my hero.

This seems to a gentle comedy show about late 1960's era family life in a black middle class neighborhood in the south. But it will not shy away from showing a black perspective.

Good start, hope the characters and story live up to the premise. We shall see.

John Leguizamo has directed a gem of a film
18 October 2020
John Leguizamo is already a legendary character actor too many times type cast in Latinx shady criminal roles, but he has shown so much more over the years. In this film in which he stars, produces and directs he shows the depth of his talent.

This is a real feel good film. It shows a true life story of triumph over adversity in a non-saccharin manner. The story telling avoids cliché and sentimentality. It does not dwell on the darkness of these young people's lives apart from when needed.

A truly remarkable film.

Apropos to the current political zeitgeist!
2 August 2020
I miss John Stewart being on the TV 4 nights a week. He left as DJT entered the presidential running in 2015 as he knew that satire was going to become a parody of itself with the orange clown around!

On this side of the pond, we have the blonde dimwit in charge never answering a question and stating platitudes mixed with Latin phrases and Shakespeare quotes that dazzle the under-educated.

This film is too smart for the average viewer ( as indicated by its IMDB review score) as it mixes sarcasm with cynicism within a paradoxical framework describing beautifully the contemporary state of western liberal democracy.

Money..................

John Stewart is beginning to find his film making mojo!

A different take on endemic institutionalized racism!
28 March 2020
Reading the reviews and following up on the naysayers through some quick net searches reveals their blatant racism, no dog whistle, since Trump it is out there for all to see.

This show shows some guts showing us the seedier side of First Nation life juxtapositioning that with the complete lack of interest or caring by the general public. The indifference to indigenous deaths either through drug addiction or homicide as shown through the very real characters in the show is very telling.

Obviously shot on a tight budget but the creator has given us a real gem of a show. With a bigger budget and some fancy CSI like props this would have been a 10 out of 10.

As it is it is a solid 7 and I await he rest of the series with anticipation.
